Room was very cozy, bathroom was beautiful, bedding was very soft and squishy pillows like I love

Let me first start by saying that this is easily the most unique property I've visited in my years as a traveler. The lobby stuns you upon entrance, with it's grand appointments and bank vault front desk setting (yes - it's a real vault and it looks fantastic). The feel is certainly old-fashioned; preserving many of the bank's furnishings and incorporating these into the decor lends a very unique ambiance to this hotel which would be quite difficult to find elsewhere. Now for the room: It was large considering the age of the property, and was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was spacious and elegant. The shower was gigantic, and there was a separate tub as well if you prefer to take a bath instead. The only downside in the bathroom was the water temperature; it tended to fluctuate unexpectedly. The worst part of my stay was the sleep quality, which unfortunately makes me drop this otherwise wonderful stay to 3 stars. The bed itself was comfortable, but the pillows were simply terrible. They provided very little support, and it was nearly impossible to find a comfortable position for them. The street noise was very distracting as well. As there are a lot of bars with foot traffic, and a light rail line directly next to the hotel, some work should be done to sound-proof the windows or exterior walls.

My dad and I happened upon this hotel last year, when we went to see an Astros game. Now, we have to stay there every year, for what is quickly becoming our annual daddy/daughter Astro's game. The hotel is comfortable, clean and convenient. The staff is friendly and it's a beautiful space. My dad and I will be returning every summer and I'd recommend to anyone!

Awesome hidden gem. Excellent value for money. Lots of restaurants, bars, and theatres within walking distance.

Great staff, excellent location within the downtown district.

Everything was good and service quite excellent except for staff twice overcharging for valet parking. Have free shuttle going everywhere through downtown, which worked out great.

The hotel location is excellent, plenty of dinning options around the hotel area. The room was clean and the staff friendly, the only negative observation is the hotel food. We ordered breakfast and it was overpriced and the food had no flavor. At night we went to the hotel bar and ordered food, same, the food was overpriced and no flavor.

Booking was a little confusing. But after speaking to hotel and arriving, everything was resolved. Excellent staff!

My husband and I had never been to Houston before and had no idea what to expect. This hotel was everything we could have hoped for. The breakfast and create your own omelette bar were fabulous and the staff was extremely helpful from start to finish. Very impressed and we definitely will be coming back.

I wanted to stay in a luxury hotel so after some research I chose this property. The junior suite was a nice size and the large bathroom was why I initially chose this hotel. Large tub and shower but the faucets leaked and did not work properly. Also they made a lot if noise when turned on and off. In the morning we heard loud banging from the room next door that woke us up at 830 am. It was either pipes from their bathroom or housekeeping banging. Called the front desk and they did not seem too concerned. Room also had a musty smell to it and the windows were dirty along with the furniture in the room that had cup stains on it. Valet was fast and efficient. Room service quality was not good. The coffee was lukewarm. The hotel had character however for the price and bring part of the autograph collection it should have been impeccable. Not much to do in the area. It was like a ghost town on the Saturday afternoon we arrived. The rubber ducky in the bathroom is cute!

Room was beautiful and bathroom was roomy and beautifully decorated. Liked the cowboy rubber ducky for bath time:-). Room service food was delicious, even fruit plate for the most part was good. Didn't like having to pay for valet parking. Staff was friendly. Maid service was a little tardy, didn't come until late afternoon and by then we had already called up and had fresh towels delivered. Overall enjoyed. Would probably stay here again or try other of the same brand hotel.

Staff was great, very helpful. Room was fantastic with a great veiw of the skyline! Perfect date-nite!

Best shower I have ever experienced. I had to mention this first. I've stayed in many hotels and a good shower is right up there with having a clean room. I love the decor/style of the room. Staff was very helpful and made my stay very enjoyable. Only minor criticism are the pillows...just too small. I'm not looking for giant pillows but the pillows were child size. However this would not stop me from staying there every time I come to Houston.

My work travel budget is restricted. I chose Hotel Icon because it is within walking distance of the Brown Convention Center and the Or--- reservation was far less expensive than staying at the Convention Center hotel or making a reservation directly with Hotel Icon. While the proximity of the hotel was perfect (20 minute walk), I felt uncomfortable walking around the neighborhood alone during daylight hours and would not do so after dark. My room's 3/4 bathroom included a shower alcove and thankfully I did not get any belongings wet from the resulting spread of water as there was no lip to prevent this. I was surprised that there was no maid service during my 2-night stay. The free wifi internet access did not work - my computer connected just fine but the service was so slow that even my email did not load. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. A tiny business center was available for printing out my boarding pass. The room's quaint decor was refreshing - an eclectic collection of antique and vintage furnishings. A big soft comforter and fluffy pillows helped me get a refreshing sleep, so important for business trips.

Top shelf...really one of the finer properties I have stayed in for some time. Solid hotel...great room design...hugh tub... big shower with amazing water pressure. All the little things were done very very well. Food very nice, fine bar...good breakfast. On the edge of downtown close to light rail, theater district and about a mile from ballpark and basketball. Neighborhood just a bit edgy at night (not really) but...transitions quickly (1 block) to shopping district. I would HIGHLY recommend this property.

Hotel is very convenient to downtown locations. Convenient location to a lot of nearby restaurants. The hotel recently (July 2012) went through a renovation so everything is clean and fresh. Style of the hotel is eclectic but nice, has a luxury feel to it. Complimentary coffee in the lobby is the best coffee I've had in a hotel, hands down. It's almost *$s quality. Your experience will vary based on the room you get. The "entry" level rooms are very small, so I would pony up the extra money and upgrade the room a bit - that's where the real value to the place is. The beds were comfortable - I travelled with some colleagues and the feedback was the same - beds are good, but some didn't like the "hallway" feeling to the rooms and the bathroom being small (again for their entry level room). The fitness center is pretty nice. No dip bars, and it only has an e-z curl bar, but beyond that you can pretty much do just about anything if you are into free weights. It has pull up bars, cables, free weights, treadmills, and some machines. Really quite a bit for the size of the fitness center. There is no pool so bear that in mind if that is a requirement for you.

The hotel was great but the staff was awesome! Michael, at the Voice, was excellent. The voice will be the reason we come back next month!! Professional, courteous, helpful, but not in your face. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay and this will be our Downtown Hotel from now on! The Hotel did not get a perfect rating, because no one is perfect.....but that are really close! Thanks

It's a nice hotel, It's a old bank building change to classic hotel inside has newly remodel and room is comfortable.

This is not a 4-star property. The lobby area is interesting and the best part of the hotel. However, the hallways are dark and rooms are dingy. I honestly felt like I was in a haunted mansion walking down the hall. Upon entering the room, the size was ok but furniture and fixtures were somewhat worn. Bathroom was nice but not much light. The service was terrible at the hotel! The room service brought wrong order, and then got it wrong a 2nd time! The housekeeping service was not good either, as the halls had dirty dishes practically all the time we were there, and we had to call for them to service our room after returning from a day trip. And the wireless did not work properly the whole time. The bar was disappointing, too, with a rude bartender. Management was less than helpful, and the "survey" we were promised was never sent. This is not an elegant property and I would not recommend!

Hotel Icon's Mission Statement is "...make it extrordinary" which every member of the staff did from the time we arrived to the time we left. The decor was elegant, the bathrooms were perfect and the service was second to none.
