Silvermine Beach Resort3.0 out of 5.0

My husband and I stayed at the Silvermine Beach Resort on 28 Oct for one night, we saw many good comments and thought it should be ok, but our room was dated, dusty and dirty, the bed was too soft, lack of supporting of our waists, we both didn't have a good sleep. However, the air-con and shower (hot water) were fine. I would say the only good thing was the breakfast at the cafe as we sat outside and can enjoy the sea-view. It is more like a hostel rather than a resort, such a shame that they got the good location, they could have managed it in a much better way. We would not consider to come back again! we will prefer airbnb or other places.
Another rant! When thinking about booking visiting family into The Silvermine 'resort' note; It is 30c and sunny today, my parents booked for October as they were told the swimming pool remains open. It is closed. The beach is also closed. Unbelievable, that this place can call itself a 'resort'! Don't try and get a drink after 9.30pm either as the miserable rude bar manager will bark at you that it is last orders, refuse to sell draught beer and then lock the doors before 10pm, even at the weekend, leaving scores of customers puzzled at why they are sat outside a hotel that doesn't sell drinks. The staff are generally pleasant except for the bar manager, this place seems to be determined to be a second rate hotel, a shame given its location.
Check in was very time consuming and I understand coz they were short staff. Had to line up 1x for registration and 2nd to get keys and meal coupons. Hotel had refurbished rooms but fixtures were quite outdated. We had the room on top of reception area which partly had the seaview. They organized egg hunting and other activities for kids and reasly was excellent and fun. Great staycation hotel. Just msybe need more choices for breakfast
genuinely surprised to see the number of decent reviews on here.... The staff here was really nice and helpful which is why I gave it 2 stars, but the facilities are rundown and not clean... let's just say we all kept our shoes on in the room and in the shower as well (lol)...As far as the actual hotel goes, I'd give it 1 star. they also charge you $50 for a rollaway bed - just a heads up! also wifi is not free (I think it was $10 a day) and even after you buy it, it's STILL spotty.
We had a 3 night stay in Hong Kong. It took a while to decide where to stay - anywhere around the harbour or Hong Kong Island seemed very expensive and very crowded, but prices on Lantau were much cheaper and there is a regular ferry going from Central District to Mui Wo from early morning to 11:30pm - the ferry trip is 30 minutes and fare is 15HKD so really cheap. In this regard Silvermine Resort is perfect - it's just a 5 minute walk to the bus stops, restaurants, bars and ferry terminal. The resort itself is a bit older, could do with a new coat of paint, but the rooms inside are tidy and comfortable. The building is 3 -storey with no lifts. WiFi here is very expensive, although it is free in the reception and restaurant area on the ground floor. The beach is a 2 minute walk, OK for sunbathing under the shady trees, but the water itself is a bit murky, if you want to swim better to use the resort pool. From the nearby bus -stop we caught buses to Tai O Fishing Village, Tian Tan Monastery and Ngong Ping 360, the buses here are cheap and much less crowded than in Hong Kong. We also caught the ferry to Central to visit The Peak and see the Harbour Light Show at night. Also, Lantau has cows everywhere ! They seem to sleep during the day, but wander around on the roads and paths at night. They look big, but they are completely harmless. Don't come here if you expect 5 star treatment, I would call this 3.5 star, but everything is comfortable, comfy beds, good airconditioning, friendly staff and great location with all the main tourist attractions within easy reach. Would definitely stay here again.
Lovely friendly hotel pools are lovely bigger that they looked in the brochures! Great for kids play areas inside and out, easy access to the rest of the island. Special thanks to the manager Gilbert,he is never to busy to help and will organise transport for you and anything else you need help with, and he is always happy!! There are no lilts at this hotel but if you need to b on the ground floor just ask, Food was good and reasonably priced. Rooms where lovely very good for 3*.
Lived on Lantau for 5 years but returned as a visitor. I didn't expect much really, but we were met with a friendly smile, got upgraded to a sea view room and met nothing but courtesy throughout our 5 day stay. I was allowed free wifi access and Gilbert the manager took time out every day to chat to me. We did not eat there so have no feedback. Room was a good size. All in all pleasantly surprised having not expected much. We will be back. I think the pool was closed all week as there was no Lifeguard, but didn't go out there to check. My pool is open all year and we have no Lifeguard, but hey, this is apron strings Hong Kong!!
Great location on Lantau island cheaper than staying in Hong Kong - close to lots of bars and restaurants about 5-10 mins walk along promenade. Hotel very tired and in need of update room smelt fousty but comfortable bed and OK to lay your head. Air con satisfactory. Quiet room. Bathroom ok but again tired looking. Nice swimming pool. Would stay again because of location. Lantau island is lovely. Ferry takes 30 minutes by fast ferry and 1 hour by slow - cost 17hkd. Lantau a lot cheaper to eat and drink than Hong Kong and food really tasty. 30hkd for beer.
I like to bring my 4.5 years old daughter and families to LANTAU island for short trip to stay at Slivermine beach resort for 4-5 times in the every summer. But I would prefer the previous staff, service, room hygiene and whatever else. The front desk staff is no service at all. They would talk to you roughly and anything to reject to all guests without and consideration even though a little thing. It might be they have to sell the vocation package in the group buying and let them busy and no worries nobody will come to there. We have to change some policy, no free breakfast provided except the room reserved from their own website. No compliment b'day cake, the check in time must after 3pm even though the have the room ready, no late check out even though weekday (Monday to Thursday). Yes, anything is no ..... etc
We stayed here because we had friends on Lantau Island. This hotel is way overpriced for what it has to offer and the cleaning is appalling. Hallways reeked of bleach and mould was growing on the windows of our room. The breakfast was very basic and there was very little I could eat. Avoid!
