We usually stay in the backpacker area and decided to stay at Alagon as they have a pool. The location is excellent. Close to Ben Thanh and there are many more nicer shops and restaurants along Nguyen Trai St. We chose the "best" room at Alagon Central and to be honest it isn't worth the price. As we had a midnight flight we needed another room for the final night and decided to just get the cheapest room. Other than being a bit larger, there is really no advantage getting the more expensive room. The furnishing are aged, but the room is very adequate. The breakfast is fantastic. Be aware there are 2 areas for breakfast. One is more Asian and the other more western. We were able to use both. It is extremely confusing, there are 4 Alagon hotels next to each other which appear to be somehow connected but all have different reception areas. Staff were excellent.
Throughly enjoyed our stay. A wee bit confusing at times, having 4 hotels in the same area, all with similar names. But it all added to the adventure of being in Saigon. Top class breakfast provides for a great start to the day. Lots of varieties and good coffee. Afternoon tea was also worthwhile. Initially booked a smaller room with no windows on the east side but later upgraded to a larger room with a great city view and a comfy day bed for only 20usd/day which was a bargain. The staff are however the main drawcard. Always smiling and willing to help out in any way. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.
The hotel is located at the Ben Tanh area. They have now 2 wings , one of them is newer and the other one is older. We stayed at the older wing, room size is alright and clean. However the walls are really thin and the bed is not so comfortable. We don’t hear voices from outside despite staying at the 2nd floor. Everything are chargeable like the laundry bag and extra usd10 for late check out to 2 pm.
The hotel is great! It's all walking distance because the location is close to everything. Easy to get halal food restaurants. Just 5 mins walk from the hotel. The famous Ben Thant market also nearby. The hotel staff is helpful ; the concierge, the reception and the housekeeping are very nice service. It was a very luxurious experience for a 3 star rated hotel. I really enjoy my 3 nights stay in this hotel. Surely will be back again!
I'll start with the positives. The hotel is very affordable and in a good location, short walk to Ben Thanh Market. It has a nice rooftop pool and bar. However, the rooms need a lot of work. When we checked in, we were escorted through the hotel restaurant to a lift to get up to our rooms. It's inconvenient walking through with your luggage while other guests are eating. The room I got had no windows and was very gloomy. Walls are thin so you get woken up by other guests walking along the aisles early in the morning. Once I heard a very loud dripping sound in my bathroom at 6am, which turned out to be coming from the room upstairs. Not all staff at the hotel were aware of the hotel surroundings and were unable to recommend places to go. There was also a mistake when I checked in, when my credit card was charged the deposit wrongly and the hotel was unable to reverse this action. I would not stay at this particular hotel again.
Like: breakfast & afternoon tea selections, good location. Rooftop bar and pool Don’t like: So many different lobby and lifts.. abit confusing. Need to pay extra to access the small rooftop pool & jacuzzi. We stayed 2 nights but they only provided 1 day of the fruits platter and didn’t clear the soggy fruits the next day, we had to leave it outside the room. Room is a bit stale smelling, old looking furniture. Big massive jacuzzi in the room but the water pressure for the shower head is so weak.
We stayed 3 nights. The Hotel is being renovated and there is noise and banging during the day. The front desk staff are welcoming and very helpful , but the hotel is like a maze. The roof top bar has amazing views but drinks are not cheap and they add 15% on the final bill. We had high tea one afternoon and quality of the food is very good but the tea is just Dilma tea bags . Surely loose leaf tea could be used . Unfortunately they would not make hot chocolates or any other drinks for the kids .15% is then added to the bill. One morning I went to breakfast in bare feet because my shoes got wet the night before in the rain . The Female Maitre'D looked at my feet in disgust and said something to one of the staff in Vietnamese , I didn't need to speak the language to understand what she meant. The shower is built for very short people and leaks . The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Our experience was not bad , but I am sure you could find something better
We had the best time with this amazing team. Great cocktails and brilliant service. Vince, Owen, Dave, Rachel and Selena where just the best. The pool and spa were clean with fresh towels always available. Anything we needed was never a problem.
We booked the Grand Deluxe Pool Access Room for three nights, reception classified us were not qualified for the pool access until we asked and requested double check with them. Then they gave us just the first day pool access voucher only and we need to ask the reception again for the rest two days vouchers. We would miss the chance of accessing the pool if we did not check with them.
Pro's the location is great right in the mix, the restaurant staff from breakfast to dinner were so friendly and attentive. Great pool on the rooftop so clean and Inviting, barman makes a mean smoothie. Our room was great and very clean. Doorman also very friendly and tour guide helpful. Cons, and as a Receptionist of many hotels I'm so disappointed in the events. I emailed back and forth re hotel transfers so after a long haul flight I was expecting our driver to be there as arranged and instructions given. NO Driver!! Not happy. Then apparently the reception was told by tour operator of our tour confirmation, no such given! Then the night before leaving I went down to arrange taxi for a 4.30am checkout, as I had paid for breakfast each morning it would have been valuable to know that we could have arranged it in our room the night before.... Thanks to the gentleman for telling me this only after I paid the bill and was heading out the door for the taxi. Not at all happy with the lack of customer service at the vital point of the business.
