The hotel on the whole offers a comfortable accommodation and with the free use of the Nuffield Health Spa & Gym next door is a perfect weekend away offering Hitchin, Wimpole Estate & Cambridge as close by attractions for a nice day out. Both Friday and Saturday evening meals were excellent, served efficiently and tasty. Big let down was the breakfast service. Took ages to get hot beverages (at one point hey ran out hot water). Did not have enough bacon, fried eggs, sausages to meet demand and had to wait long time for them to be resupplied. Although the staff were trying their best there was not enough of them to cope. The rooms are nicely done out however avoid top floor bedrooms as the window is tiny on an angle pitch roof making the rooms dark and dingy. The shower head barely allows your head to get under as it is very low. Finally, I felt it was not necessary for the hotel to charge me an extra £1 for two apples considering the amount of money we as a group spent over the weekend.
Do not let them give you room 15 as it’s a Tiny room and has an even tinier shower room, its above the kitchen. The room has a very small single and uncomfortable bed. The windows won’t open as they’re jammed shut. The quilted thing at the foot of the bed was badly stained underneath. The worst thing about the room that wasn’t obvious until 04.15 was the large, powerful and noisy extraction fan and ducting attached to the outside wall of the bedroom, it woke me up. Although the staff are friendly I wasn’t prepared to complain at that time of day. The very small bathroom has an electric towel rail which was damaged, has a PAT which is a year out of date and is not safe to be in use near water.
Jason and Linda had their wedding here it was amazing they really did them proud a beautiful hotel for any occasion trust me I am fussy thanks to all staff the wedding breakfast was great and the evening food was to die for agate at day was had by all thanks Jason and Linda xx
Stayed here on a groupon voucher and it was an amazing weekend. Fantastic value! our room was clean and comfortable and our evening meal and breakfast was perfection! But what makes this hotel stand out is the super staff. They are so friendly and approachable as well as being professional and efficient! Really warm and happy to chat and this really made the weekend. The use of the swimming pool was an added bonus! Would definitely go again!!!!
We were here to attend a wedding and drove past the entrance as, be warned, the sign isn't the most obvious. Check-in was busy as most of the bridal party were staying overnight and had arrived at around the same time. We were all dealt with efficiently and directed to our rooms as quickly as possible. The hotel is a lovely old building and finding your room can be a bit confusing, however any staff members we came across were very helpful. The room was very nice, nothing to complain about here. Someone mentioned in another review about a lack of mini-fridge but as were weren't expecting one, we weren't disappointed! Tea and coffee facilities were provided. The wedding ceremony was in a lovely wood panelled room and then we moved outside for a drinks reception. The grounds are lovely and the outside terrace very nice in the afternoon sunshine. The food and service during the meal was second-to-none, plenty of both served by very pleasant staff. (One of the staff (the conference supervisor, Megan, I think) even took time to take some photos for us.) Breakfast next morning was served, buffet-style, in the same wood panelled room and had the usual array of hot and cold choices. All in All in all we were very happy with our stay and would stay again if the opportunity arose. (We didn't use the leisure facilites.)
I stay here on business and this was the second time. The room was big and the bathroom was a decent size also. There was a lot of mould on the ceiling in the bathroom but it wasn’t an issue; its not uncommon when there are no windows. I was woken up at 6.30 by what sounded like people dragging something down the stairs (it was possibly the staff as when i left the room I saw a staff/cleaners room right by my room). Breakfast is a buffet and was enjoyable (they do lovely scrambled egg!). Overall it was good and i’m sure I will visit again.
Very efficient and friendly staff from reception to restaurant waiting staff, did everything to make stay a good one. Excellent food. Rooms clean and comfortable. Some parts of hotel in need of refurbishment, but otherwise well maintained. Excellent pool - all one depth, which is great for me! Best steam room I have ever used. All in all a really good place to stay.
Staff pleasant, Reception small evening meal good, breakfast okay. Room very tired and no mini fridge. Free wifi but no signal so useless. Heath club excellent ,great swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
We stayed for 2 nights and moved 4 times before we found a half decent room!!! Room 56 was too noisy, with an air conditioning unit or something similar outside which kept us awake all night. The other rooms were tired and dated, old bath rooms, holes in the curtains, carpets that had seen better days etc. On the plus side staff were helpful and professional, food was great, bar and great hall were very comfortable to sit in.
