Welcoming staff, clean and comfortable room. Ate in bistro as restaurant closed on Sunday eve, food was good , breakfast lovely. Particularly impressed that there were 3 bath towels as we had booked for 3-that doesn't happen very often!
Please be aware if you go here on a Saturday - if there is a wedding you will get no sleep. I asked to be put as far away from the noise as possible but it still sounded like the party was going on in next room.
On arrival the young man on reception tried to upgrade our room for us but then when he was unable to, he offered us complimentary drinks vouchers. All the staff we came across were polite and attentive but never intrusive. Nothing was too much trouble and our only 'complaint' was the enormous size of portions at dinner each evening. Even that was sorted out when we apologised for sending food back as we were just too full! would certainly recommend and hope to be back again.
We stayed here a couple of years ago back in 2014 for the local big antiques fair nearby in Ardingly, and this time we came for a longer stay to not only visit the antiques fair again but also visit another local attraction down the road in Uckfield. Warm welcoming greeting from reception staff, and building still retains it's old world charm. Rooms have been refurbished since our last visit and the mix of old and new styles blend in quite nicely - however the minor little niggle that prevents a perfect 5 out of 5 rating was the bathroom was quite small and the had basin had a tendency to splash over when using it, but did enjoy the dual shower set up especially after a long hot day out. Breakfast was great as it was last time with cooked to order English Breakfast items with the continental buffet, and even the food in the bar was great as well as it was so hot when we visited we did not want to travel too far to find places to eat, the fish and chips and sausage sandwiches are certainly top restaurant quality. One of the waitresses think her name was Amanda certainly went above and beyond to make our visit quite special when we had a slightly disappointing dessert in the bar. Would come back again some time if we are visiting in the area.
This is a very comfortable and good quality hotel. Our room, although a little small, was very clean and we slept very well on the comfortable beds. The bathroom was modern with a good shower pressure. We enjoyed the breakfast but were disappointed with dinner. The staff in the dining room at dinner were friendly and very charming but service was slow and the food was just okay. We would stay again but probably eat out for dinner.
I have stayed here 'a few times' now, and always get a fantastic reception from all the staff. The rooms are clean and tidy. The resturant changes a couple of meals weekly, which is good & the evenings tick away with a well stocked bar with guest ale. Breakfast is a must!
Lovely place here for party being held at the hotel such comfy beds as I was worried due to having a bad back but I slept so well! Would stay again! Lovely staff breakfast was yummy The building was so nice
We stayed at this lovely hotel for four nights as we wanted to see Brighton and the south downs but didn't wish to stay in a city hotel. The location was ideal and we had a very enjoyable few days. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent. Although we had read poor reviews about the restaurant but we had no issues with it at all, we dinned here for 3 nights and the food although not top quality it was tasty and plenty full. The room was a little small but clean and bed comfy; it was very hot but there was a desk fan provided which we used every night all night!. Only slight niggle - breakfast buffet not kept topped up; orange juice and milk and brown bread for toast ran out, had to take milk from other tables. However we had a very nice few days here and would stay again if in this area.
I come here a few times each year on business. The staff are always helpful and the rooms have basic tea and coffee. The train station is a nice 30 minute walk. There are stores in walking distance. Gatwick airport is a 15-minute train ride away. The restaurant and buffet on weekends is quite good. This is an older property but well kept. There is a great bar and reading room with fireplace and lots of places to talk and read. I continue to like the location and value. The internet is a bit funny, having to log back in each few hours but it worked for me.
We stayed here for one night so we could do some activities in the area. The main hotel is a beautiful old building, with an amazing twisting detail to the chimneys! The main staircase & stained glass windows are beautiful. We stayed in one of the older rooms which was very clean & contained everything we would need for one night. We would definitely stay there again.
