Pagoda Hilo Bay Hotel

My wife and I stayed 4 nights here for our honeymoon. It seems to be an older hotel but it has a very homey feel and the staff were very friendly. If your looking for a 5 star luxury resort then this is not for you, but if your looking for a comfortable place to sleep after exploring the island then Pagoda Hilo Bay Hotel is a good choice. We would definitely stay here again.

Smaller, older hotel with great gardens in the center. Sounds of Coqui Frogs through the night and birds first thing in the morning. Absolutely loved the sounds. Pool was clean and refreshing. Room was pleasant, the only draw back is that it did not have adequate plug-ins for newer technology. (ie charging all phones, computers, i-pads etc..luckly i brought a small extension cord, a 3 plug plug-in , and was able to unplug the ac unit to get a three prong outlet). Great stay, would definitely return.

The pictures posted totally misrepresent the reality of the hotel. The place is old, run down and in need of a lot of tlc and upgrading.

Its a nice place if you just need some where to stay for a good price. if your not looking for special ammenties then this a place to stay.

Great location in need of renovations throughout the whole hotel rooms need new mattresses some paint would help but overall beautiful area warm dry comfortable

Stayed two nights. Hotel is old but comfortable. Not an upscale place but well worth the price. Central location for moving around that side of the island. Would stay there again.

The facility was in a great location, with nice exterior grounds. Beautiful trees, coastline, ponds, walking paths, and birds. Great location. Handy to Historic Downtown Hilo, the airport, and many attractions. The lobby is ok; however, the rooms are very disappointing. At first view, we contemplated cancelling the reservation and leaving. We were unsure of cleanliness. The room, and all its contents, were very old and in disrepair (including carpets, painting, toilet, shower, furniture). We opted to stay; however, purchased cleaning products to wipe down the room. To our delight, the room was clean (though we did wear slippers on the carpet and in shower). Overall, we would not re-book here.

frogs were noisy all night, you need earplugs only 1 small bottle of shampoo,no rinse fan in bathroom was very noisy as well very old hotel, clean ??

Not the cleanest hotel and our room was located at the end of an extremely long tunnel that was filled with moldy carpet and walls.

This is an old hotel with worn carpets and old furniture in the lobby but also lots of fresh flowers done daily. Lots of character and very nice staff. Nice big room, clean and quiet, except for the myna birds outside and also the frogs. But that just adds to the experience of being in a tropical paradise.

Staff is friendly, hotel is pretty run down. My room felt dirty, carpet needs shampooing, couch in the room was nasty. Floor was uneven. I'd say book this hotel if it is your last resort lol. Use air B&B

It's not the fanciest hotel, but the beds are clean and the showers work. Couldn't ask for anything more. Stayed here 3 times now and will do it again.

Accidentally left my $90 charger and plug in room and 2 hrs later called and they said they didn't have it. I know i forgot it there.

Great price and spacious rooms near the airport. The room had a refrigerator, air conditioner, balcony, and a lot of space. The facilities are a little worn all around (think 1980s), but the room was clean and suited our needs perfectly. Hotel staff are very friendly, but quite slow. This may just be a trend in Hawaii, but it was a long check in process considering I had prebooked online, so be ready for chit chat and standing around.

We have stayed here twice.-once when it was formerly Uncle Billy's and now Pagoda. It has a great accomodating staff, a clean pool, a store on site, and a small garden walkway. It is an older style 70's era hotel that has been maintained , still has older carpeting, walls were painted. Bathroom tile is old but clean and our bathtub was in great shape- we even let the babies take baths there. So if you want a great location in Hilo & you plan to travel to Volcano, hiking, beaches, gardens, tide pools, observatory (just 1 hour up) waterfalls, etc it is a great place good location near the airport and Target, Safeway, Walmart etc . free parking in lot and plenty on the street I understand why some give bad reviews, its because they must be looking for something else. If you are looking to stay in a nice luxury hotel and just go to beaches most every day then you probably will not like it- you might even rather stay in Kona. But we like this hotel for what we do on the Big Island, and we take usually day 2 trips across to Kona too.

We checked in at 3pm... And was told our room's wasn't ready ... we sat in the lobby for 2 hours waiting for our room's to be ready... There was about 3 couples in front of us who also had to wait in the lobby for 2 hours... Hotel is in need of renevation bathroom sinks had rust ect.. Our sliding door didn't lock..

First room: bedroom was not done. Room was not cleaned either. Look like someone just checked out. Then went to second room, which is OK>

Our room was much larger than expected. There was a tear in the carpet and the bathroom needed a new sink basin - it was clean, but very well used. When we checked in the hotel was booked solid for the weekend, due to a baseball tournament and the higher-than-normal activity at the volcano (bring more neighbor-island visitors). The lights from the open-air lobby was attracting flying termites (as happens in Hawaii). Parking in the hotel lot was limited, but street parking was abundant, free, and just as close.

I had a good night sleep. It's an older hotel, but nice. Had a kitchenette room. I recommend

Disappointed that the pool was closed for maintanence. The staff was nice and very helpful. When we got to the room we saw that there was an extra bed which was nice. I wish they had given us a microwave instead of an extra bed. It was pretty cozy though and was cool. The bed was comfortable but the blanket seemed as if there was something poki in it so I had to get another blanket to use. Overall it was ok.
