Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo - a Doubletree by Hilton

Hotels grounds are beautiful the lobby looks nice but the staff in the restaurant we're slow and not super friendly the room had such a noisy AC unit we had to shut it off which meant we had a hot room also the windows had paint overspray all over them so it was a little hard to see outside which is kind of a bummer when you paid extra for an ocean view I would recommend bringing your own pillow because their pillows are dead when you lay down on them they deflate to less than an inch but the bed was comfortable so other than very hot restless and comfortable sleep not being able to see out the windows due to over spray it was a pretty nice hotel the gym is top-notch

This was my second time coming back to the hotel as they were in the midst of their renovations the last time I stayed. The Grand Naniloa is a great, affordable option in Hilo. Hopefully it stays that way. I was able to find onsite parking easily, but the check-in took FOREVER. Perhaps they were short on staff or I came during the initial check-in rush but I spent at least 20 minutes in line.

pool and view of ocean were gorgeous. we booked ziplining through the hotel, very helpful and friendly. great experiance

Good and bad. Room was clean, new and fresh. I had a room on 4th floor, harbor view. It was JUST high enough to see over the lobby/bar area. Lower floors would have no views at all, just the driveway. The shower head had a projection of only a few inches from wall so you literally had to stand against the wall to use it. I am fairly small so it wasn't too bad but a taller larger person would have issues. I had dinner at hotel as there is little option for outside meals in the area and it was $20 for "buffet" with 2 entree choices. Actually, the buffet part was only a small salad bar and 2 soups which were not good. Entrees were chicken or fish. I had chicken, sauce was good; rest was blah. There is NO shade at pool. I had no car so parking didn't impact me. I did need to take a taxi to airport and front desk told me it was about $8. Turned out to be $13. Not their fault, but they should know better. [No traffic, so that wasn't the reason.] Biggest issue - I asked for late check out as my flight wasn't until after 9pm. I was willing to pay for it, as it would make things easier for me. I was double charged for the extra time. I was charged once when I requested the extension. And then when I actually checked out; I got a new receipt and they charged me again. When I questioned it, they said it wasn't double charge but a hold on my account?? I told them it was a double charge and that I wanted it taken care of now, while I was still there because I know it's harder t

Really enjoyed our stay. Good location for Hilo area activities and not too far from Volcano National Park. Very nice open air seating and good breakfast buffet.

Everything was wonderful! Nice rooms, comfortable beds! The staff at the restaurant are the best. The breakfast buffet is worth every penny. And the location and surrounding area is gorgeous. Be sure to check out Coconut Island! We have no complaints! I wish we could go back and stay there forever!

Stayed here while visiting Volcano National Park. Good location. Great open air breakfast. Comfortable rooms - ours had a nice ocean view. We were very pleased with our stay.

Newly reopened the hotel staff is largely inexperienced but they seemed anxious to please. Sitting on our balcony with a view of downtown Hilo,Hilo Bay and Mauna Kea all was very good. Right now it is a fantastic value.

Beautiful oceanfront resort with great views, very friendly and accommodating staff, plentiful delicious breakfast with fresh waffles, gorgeous updated modern rooms

We had a nice lanai and great ocean view. The restaurant needs some work but you're within walking distance to Hilo Bay Cafe and Ponds, great spots. Uncle Billy's right next door is also a savior for sandwiches, quick breakfast and beer!

Great location, nice rooms. Minimal amenities, great views. You can tell the hotel is growing and will only get better. Very quiet hotel and quiet area. They are remodeling and construction work begins promptly at 8:30am. Didn't bother us as we were gone all day. Would stay here again and highly recommend.

Really enjoyed this hotel. Didn't want to leave! Didn't have valet, wasn't a big deal but we sat in our car waiting for a few moments as an attendant was standing there, was more funny than anything. Appeared very clean but we did have a cotton balls under sink from last guess, easily could be missed!

It is probably the best hotel in Hilo, not too many to compare either.. Became Doubletree by Hilton recently, not quite sure if it is quite at the hilton quality even with the recent renovation. Lobby is pretty nice though, pool is really small (can't complain, you are in hawaii..) So I was pretty excited to stay here when I read about the recent renovation and the corner oceanfront room. Upon checking in, I was assigned to 736. As soon as I entered the room, I noticed a really loud low humming noise. Thought it was the AC, so I turned AC off, and it was still loud. Found out from the maintenance guy, there's a AC machine directly above on the roof which gets pretty loud when all units have AC on, and you will hear that noise louder if you are on higher floor, but you can still hear it on 3rd floor as well. It's been like that ever since he got there about year ago. Some will complain about the noise, and some won't. I complained, I got placed in a bayview room on a different tower, not quite as nice view as the other room, and with really tiny bathroom. Shower curtain smelled like old rag, and I was too tired to change into another room at that point. They offered free breakfast for the hassle, and they offered free breakfast for remaining days of our stay, but i took some refund instead of breakfast since I stayed in a inferior room for all 3 nights. Save your money, and don't book the oceanfront corner room. Not worth it.

Not your standard Doubletree. Dated facility, check in staff was ok - we arrived 1.5 hrs after check in and still had to wait 30 mins and I had to check to see if room was ready. They did not come let me know. Nice work out center and close to Hilo

They did a fantastic job on the renovation. Nice, clean and comfortable rooms, and every staff member we encountered was very friendly and happy.

Impressive lobby. Rooms have been updated with nice touches, but the elevator is old and slow.

This hotel already improved a lot from my last stay 3 yrs ago, but sadly still under renovation! But I could see it's going to be very nice once it's done. It's modern and hip, make sure to book the 2 corner oceanview room, you will love the sound of crashing waves, watching cruise ship coming into Hilo bay! Very friendly staff!

An elegant remodel to this hotel has made it my top choice for a stay in Hilo. Peaceful, clean, with gorgeous views. I slept like an angel. Loved the shower. I had a terrific room and a wonderful overnight stay.

Location was beautiful, and room was clean and updated. Worked well for our family of four despite some active remodel work going on. Pool was closed for repair during our stay, so we had disappointed kids, but enjoyed the grounds and a tasty breakfast buffet.
