I am little late to write this review as it was also a year ago that I stayed here but as I'm planning another trip to SE Asia I realize how important these reviews are! My two friends and I stayed in a deluxe room in Hanoi City Palace and it was fantastic! It was very affordable and offered free breakfast every day. They greeted us with a nice cold towel and fresh juice and were very helpful in setting up tours throughout the week that we were there. The only negative thing I have to say is that the ATM right outside the front door took money out of my friends account, yet never gave her cash. She was able to call her bank and remedy the situation, so no harm there. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel! GREAT location and wonderful staff!!
The location of the hotel is fantastic, and that's about as far as i'd go with the positive aspects. The hotel badly needs updating in its appearance, it feels very old and run down inside the rooms. The bathroom was very worn, and not cleaned very thoroughly - there was still litter in the bathroom from the previous occupants left over. At around 7am each morning there was the most high pitched screeching noise coming from above the room, almost as if someone was dragging chairs along a marble floor, it was horrid! The walls are also extremely thing and you can hear EVERYTHING that goes on next door.. What upset me the most was that in the bathroom the towel rack was cracked at the joint and ready to fall off at any minute, and when I placed a towel onto the rack it broke off, when I checked out of the hotel they tried to bill me $15 for it! However, after explaining the situation they did waiver the fee for me... but it left a sour feeling for me with the hotel.
Good hotel : Economic price including breakfast. The room is nice. Breakfast is nice. It was located in the old town near attraction places eg. Hanoi lake, Church and market. There are one day trip tours provided with reasonable price, good service and good service.
First and foremost the staff were very accommodating, helpful and friendly throughout our 3 night stay with them. The issue we had was the hotel itself. Positives: breakfast was good, good location, we were able to book a trip to halong bay through the hotel which was cheap and efficient, laundry service was fast and cheap and to emphasise again the staff were really brilliant and so friendly. Negatives: the first room we stayed in had an extremely loud 'groaning' noise coming from it, I think from faulty plumbing, which happened every 30 seconds or so which made sleep impossible. To go with the noise the room also had a very unpleasant smell. We weren't aware of this when we first checked in as the window was open, to keep out bugs and to get best use of the air conditioning this was naturally best left closed and so the smell became very apparent!! We asked to change room and unfortunately the hotel was fully booked, but the day after we were able to change. This room again had a smell but a different smell: one of severe damp. We made our peace with it being our last night and happy to get away from the noise for one last night, however getting into bed late at night we noticed the bed itself was very damp! Which made for a very unpleasant nights sleep. We checked out early on our last morning to get the bus to Halong Bay and so unfortunately haven't had the chance to pass this on to management. I'm sure if we did have time, they would have gone out of their way to rectify this as they were very helpful. All in all, great staff, but hotel is in severe need of a refurbishment and some general maintenance. Could imagine this hotel to be fantastic in its prime but would not come back unless things were put right.
This hotel has always been very special, but now it definitely needs some updating. We have stayed there several times and have enjoyed meeting up with the nice owners and their lovely staff. It has always been a pleasure.
Stayed only a night. Location is great and after 3 hotels before this, I can say it is rather rare to have a bath tub for soaking after long walk day so it was nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only thing I am unhappy about is their bath towels...too thin!
We turned up after 20 hours travel at the 2pm check in time to be told that (a) the room we booked was not available and (b) that the alternative room wasn't ready yet. We waited and hour to be put in a one bedroom with a stretcher when we booked for four people! We asked to only be charged for the room we actually recieved and we were told they would only give us an airport transfer for free. The fold out bed collapsed and three of us slept in one bed. We were moved the next day. The hotel is old and tired but that seems to bee all of Vietnam Don't expect a hot shower here. Our power was also our for a whole day. They knew we were checking out at 4am and we're told reception was 24/7 we came down to the doors locked and some poor bugger sleeping on the floor, we had to shake him awake. We asked about payment and asked him he was happy to charge mt credit card... the next day chaos ensued when we were chased down via what's app about not paying. Would not stay again. The only saving grace is the lovely staff.
We got transferred to this hotel because ours didn't have electricity. This hotel was better than the one we were supposed to stay at, which we did stay at for the next 3 nights. The room was clean, nothing like the photos on the booking page, but nice anyway. I actually slept well after a rough day. The window had a view of a stone wall, the shower easily overflowed into the rest of the bathroom, and I am still waiting for my wake up call I requested for 7 a.m. The staff was friendly, and I believe they tried to be helpful for the most part.
The hotel is a little old and tired, the linen could do with an update especially the towels! They are yellow in colour, smelly and look and feel like they've been used for the last 20 years. And the aircon is also old and noisy !!! The service is good, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Shame that all this is let down by the worn out fittings, furnishings and linens. We booked and paid for the family suite, and got put into twin single, followed by a normal double room. Reason: they've run out of rooms. This is completely unacceptable way of doing business: cheating your customers. I travel to Hanoi for business quite a lot, this is the first and will be the last time we stay here.
We were very satisfied with our stay. Friendly staff (James and Annie!) were helpful and kind. James helped us arrange a taxi across town, and was easy to talk to, very friendly. Room had only a window that opened to the hallway corridor, but strong A/C., which helped greatly. Breakfast served in the hotel's dining room each morning. Good strong Vietnamese coffee was a great treat. Old Quarter has many options for hotels and we are happy with what we chose. Thanks, Hanoi City Palace Hotel!
