We visited with our family for our Anniversary Staff very welcoming food again really nice and presented well Only down side was we left our large Umbrella in one corner near back of Raven. When we went back to ask unfortunately it was not there when my Husband asked he was told it was not there!!!!!
Excellent as always. We stopped for two nights as visiting Goodwood Revival. As we were leaving early in the morning a continental breakfast was left outside our room. We ate in the restaurant both evenings and couldn't fault anything. This hotel offers the basics and is clean and tidy and the staff are always friendly and attentive. A fab place for our requirements for this trip our third stay and we will be back again.
We were attending a family wedding at The Four Seasons Hotel, Hook and from the minute we arrived, the Raven Hotel had a welcoming feeling. All the staff, without exception could not have done anymore for us. We booked a superior room, the Wallace Suite. It was very clean, well presented and very comfortable. The bar and restaurant were also very clean and very reasonably priced, as was the room including a very nice full English breakfast. We will definitely return and recommend this Hotel to all. Thank you.
Comfortable enough room. The lock on the door was a bit suspect, it did feel a little bit like all you had to do was shoulder barge the door a little and you would just be able to enter the room. I was on the ground floor, the windows open fully and you can see into a residential street opposite so not ideal if you keep valuable personal belongings with you, however the room did have a wardrobe where you can hide things from view if you feel the need. There is no receptionist upon entering the hotel area so you have to use the reception phone to ring through for someone to come and check you in. Evening dinner service was quite busy and I was told there would be a 45 minute wait for food and it would be best to order then and they would bring it to my room, so that was nice. Never having had room service before, I was unsure of the procedure on what to do with the empty plate and it seemed that the waiter was unsure also but he assured me he would come back later to remove it and he did so. There was little to no traffic noise outside, bed was comfortable, due to the fully opening windows, the room can be kept as warm or as cool as you wish. Breakfast was also pleasant, a nice range of things on offer. Staff are pleasant and accommodating, answered questions I had and were happy to help on a trivial matter of confusion that occurred. The usual things were there, a room service menu, a menu to peruse for breakfast, details of things that could be done in the area for tourists. Clean and comfortable room, nice size, good sized bathroom. Wouldn’t set the world on fire, but it was practical, welcoming and comfortable which is what a hotel should be.
Stayed 2 nights to attend a wedding at another venue. Pros and cons. Although a reasonable sized hotel its impression is of a large pub with rooms. Rather tired but clean and adequate. The dining room is only an open extension of the bar so rather noisy, though they do run to tablecloths. Service is hit and miss - the girls serving were friendly and worked hard, but obviously understaffed for the number of people eating in. No checkin at entrance, so took a table and waited, and waited. No sign of anyone serving so joined a queue of drinkers at the bar, eventually got to the front and was told that the restaurant was table service (no notice saying either way). Soon after that the waitress appeared, the order came quickly and the food was fine. Next morning came down for breakfast and again no-one in sight. It seemed that there was a buffet bar for cereals etc and toast but no sign of cooked food or tea. Ate what was available and, when someone eventually appeared, ordered the rest, which did then come quickly. Ate out that night. Next day at breakfast they had a checkin, took our order at the desk and all went smoothly. So, as I said, hit and miss. Staff are pleasant, food is fine, but they need more people involved. Now, an unfortunate incident that actually reflected well on the management and gained them a star. On our first morning we awoke to find the corridor outside was flooded! Apparently a drain was blocked and affecting a lot of rooms, including the bridal party who were expecting to get themselves ready for the big event. Potential disaster, but the manager soon had all those affected moved to new rooms and the corridor mopped up, drain people arrived promptly and it got sorted out. Lots of apologies and we were not charged for the night because of all the inconvenience. The bridal party calmed down and all went well. Now I give the hotel credit for dealing with this promptly and effectively and giving compensation unasked. Regarding price, we would have paid £130 for two nights B&B for two - not a bad rate.
It is difficult to add more detail than that I have used in the heading. The hotel should be a lot better than it is and also, the pub it is attached to is also in poor condition. The room was tidy enough and the bed was comfy but all of the fixtures and fittings were from another age. The place is just old! I was also worried for the security of the room as the door lock was poor quality and the door could easily be prised open by a would be intruder. For that reason, when I went out for a meal, I locked my belongings back in my car. I did not drink in the bar...the ceiling was falling in and the place had a less than glamorous smell to it. For the same reason, I skipped the included breakfast the following morning. I am told that they are expecting a refurb next year...I wont return unless this is done to a very high standard.
Very tired rooms. Checked in by kitchen staff, who got the price wrong. Food was abysmal both dinner and breakfast. Really not a good advertisement for the chain. Should invest in a new chef because the food was terrible
Handy for the station, close to home, starting point for the Hook Runners monthly handicap - what's not to like. The staff are friendly, even if you have just run 3.6 miles flat out and stink, and the lager is cold and refreshing
A delicious meal served by attentive staff was enjoyed by ten people who were getting together at the start of a wedding weekend. Food was piping hot and there was a good choice. Lamb shanks and mixed grills were the favourites.
The best thing about this hotel is its close proximity to the railway station. Rooms, or certainly the room we were allocated, are tired and need an update. Beds are hard and the room was very hot. The most off putting thing though was the bathroom, definitely need to get in there with the lime scale remover, that's a must. Expensive during the week but believe the prices are much more reasonable at the weekend.
