Always wanted to stay here. Sprawling golfers' hotel and business conference venue with a spa that is popular with groups of ladies on Day Spa visits. Comfortable room and a great breakfast. Service OK, except housekeeping which is a bit hit and miss. For our first 2 days the bed wasn't made properly. The duvet was simply pulled up - sheets weren't flattened and pillows and our PJs were untouched. On the 3rd day it was done properly. Also, the electronic program guide on the TV didn't work. I reported it to Reception when we arrived but it still wasn't fixed 4 days later when we left. The hotel has a large swimming pool and poolside seating area which is nice, also a large jacuzzi with a waterfall above, but the waterfall doesn't work when you press the button to operate it. Overall, the hotel needs to be better looked after by staff with better attention to detail. On the plus side, because of the decline from previously very high standards you can stay here for quite a reasonable price these days, especially on a weekday. It's not busy, except for the crowds of golfers and they are all outside.

This place has changed in a very big way since I was last there in 1983. It is now a vast complex with bars, restaurants, health club etc. The rooms were spacious but the entire complex including the rooms were hot and stuffy. Considering this was a chilly UK summer I wonder what it would be like if the temps ranged from the 66 degrees (that it was), to the normal 80 degrees!! The fan in the room was totally inadequate and barely made a difference. AND...there was massive construction which no one mentioned so who doesn't like to be awoken at 8am on a Thursday vacation with construction right outside your window!!
