Holiday Inn Farnborough3.0 out of 5.0

In the room we were allocated on Saturday April 28th at 5.00 pm, the temperature was no more than 13°C. The outside air temperature was 6°C. The hotel room heating was off and the controls wouldn’t work because the system was centrally controlled and it is now officially spring. I was literally shivering for 30 minutes before someone arrived with a supplementary heater. I was not dressed for winter. At 8.00 am this morning, the room was as cold as it had been when I arrived. The heating was (and probably is still) off. It is ridiculous and wrong to set the heating regime of a hotel by the calendar. Use some common sense!
A group of us went for lunch after using the swimming pool. The Chef met all requirements we asked for and served in a timely manner, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service from our waiter Mauro was also great. I would definitely recommend.
Normally when I would stay at a hotel like this I would have an image of what the place would be like, run down, smelly, cheap and nasty. But much to my surprise this hotel was a completely different experience to what I thought it’ll would be. Hotel staff friendly. Room was spacious with all the necessary amenities. Bed was very comfortable. And noise from the road outside wasn’t too bad, even had the window open all night. Hot water was instant and the shower is one best I’ve ever used at any hotel. No pressure problems. Enjoyed the one night that we spent there.
We stayed in an executive suite for one night as we traveling to and from legoland as a family . The staff where all very helpful and friendly, my son got a voucher for free cookie and milk on arrive which he used after his dinner and took it back to the room for bedtime. The room was very clean and comfortable and our son had a big sofa bed to his self which was made and ready for him, we eat in the hotel the food was wonderful and severed very quickly , our son eat free and had a good choice of food. In the morning we had breakfast there was a large range of food from bacon, eggs, ect with drinks as well ,we then used the swimming pool, which was clean and the staff were helpful given use towels to use, overall a wonderful stay thank you.
We stayed in an ‘executive suite’ for 2 nights and found everything exceeded our expectations. All the staff were helpful, friendly and keen to go out of their way to help. The room was spacious and provided everything we needed and even had signs suggesting things we could ask for as complimentary if needed. The swimming pool etc. was equally as professionally run. Whilst we were there there was a wedding and we had no noise disturbances at all. Although Farnborough itself is not a place I would return to, I would definitely look to stay at this hotel again. We spent another night at a nearby Hilton and the star rating and cost was higher, but the quality was not surpassed. The food was very good too (if a little pricey). Thank you for an unexpectedly great couple of nights!
We stayed here one night after a late arrival back into Gatwick to break up the journey home. The check in was easy enough, parking was a minor issue at that time if night in a school holiday, but there’s another part of the car park further around the building. The room was nice. My only niggle is that the bed wasn’t very comfortable. It creaked when you moved and was a bit lumpy. It was a far cry better than the beds we’d slept on in Africa, but not up to the standard you’d expect in the UK. WiFi was good and the breakfast was yummy. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to use any of the recreational facilities because of our late arrival. I’d recommend.
My family and I just wanted to say that we had such a lovely time staying at your hotel in Farnborough from Tuesday 3rd April until 6th. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful and so welcoming to young families. Such a lovely relaxed, comfortable and friendly hotel, we will definately come back again. Rooms were beautiful and cosy! Food amazing and all facilities amazing! Thank you so much for making our stay so enjoyable and relaxed. Booked as part of the legoland experience. Thank you again Claire, Ian, grant and Jennifer Campbell. (Scotland) Ps the wee additions giving the kids a welcome pack, voucher for free cookie and milk and leaving box, just brilliant.
We visited this hotel for the first time whilst on a coach holiday. The hotel appeared to have been based around an old house which gave it a distinctive, homely feel. Check-in was friendly and efficient and the room was spacious and well equipped, even if the lighting was somewhat quirky. When it came to dinner the hotel claimed not to have been told in advance about my wife’s dietary requirements but the chef came and discussed her options and then provided an excellent meal for her. Both at dinner and at breakfast the waiting staff seemed very aware of the allergens in the food on offer. In spite of its proximity to a major road junction the hotel was extremely quiet. We were very impressed and if we should be in the area in the future this would be our first choice.
I was not impressed by this particular Holiday Inn. On a three night stay @ £130 per night I experienced a number of problems; card-key door handle not working, a room right next to a noisy boiler and a broken desk leg, another room with faulty and gurgling drainage. I was a bit fed up with the lack of attention to detail and the Reception staff were either not well trained or they were not particularly courteous and there seemed to be a lack of leadership. Perhaps this stay was just very bad luck but I shall do my best to avoid staying again. The car park is quite small and the spaces are narrow.
The hotel seemed to be in the middle of refurb and redecoration when I arrived. I had to step over three workmen who were fitting the carpet in the entrance hall and there were five workmen in the bar area fitting cupboards, drilling and banging. None of this was mentioned when I booked. The staff at reception also didn't mention it as I was checking in ( would have been nice to get a "sorry about the noise, it will be finished tomorrow". All in all the hotel did have a dated feel, maybe the refurb will help? I was there 12 years ago and it did feel as if it was stuck in a bit of a timewarp compared to newer more recently built hotels. Labyrinth narrow corridors and lots of brown wooden doors with glass in. However the breakfast was very good and the staff were also very helpful. Maybe we just timed it wrong..?
