Stayed in executive room in the main building. Its an old building with creaky floors but some character. The aircon system was fairly noisy and died while I was there. Staff were very helpful and they got it fixed in a few hours. Exec room included a fridge and bathrobe. The leisure centre access involved going outside for a few steps. Overall the whole place is reasonable but nothing special
TIP: Satnav/Google maps might lead you to the wrong side of the hotel so just take the next roundabout exit and keep left. The hotel looked very nice on arrival. Greeted by a very friendly receptionist who checked us in and offered assistance with luggage. Our first room was on the lower ground overlooking the car park but I asked to move as my little boy's bed (sofabed) was located below the window and I was worried about noise and security at night as it was hot and the window would need to be open for some air. We were offered an alternative on the 2nd or third floor. We accepted the third and within a few minutes, the same receptionist came to the room with new key cards. The room was almost identical to the original and was large enough for the 3 of us. The decor of the rooms and corridors is a bit drab and dated so could be doing with a good bit of updating. The bedding is quite heavy for warm summer nights so lighter alternatives could also be made available. The pool was very good. Staff checked us in, provided towels and loaned us 20p for a locker as we never thought to bring change! The area around the pool and the pool itself was very clean. We even saw them test the water whilst there. Phones/cameras are banned for obvious reasons and I was glad to see staff enforcing this rule with one individual who ignored the signage. Breakfast was pretty good but some veggie sausages on offer would have been much appreciated. Plenty of decent cooked food, pastries, meats, cheeses, juices etc. Tea/coffee sachets provided for a quick cuppa as well as some nice little soaps/gels etc in the bathroom. The minibar was empty in our second room but we asked it to remain that was as we used the fridge for our own milk/drinks. (Tip: use the menus in the room to lay across the shelves, saving the minibar sensors from thinking you're using stuff). Wifi isn't the fastest but it was a decent speed and free. Overall a very nice hotel with pleasant, attentive staff. Some veggie sausages and updated decor would get 5/5 rating :-)
A hotel with an interesting history. Part old but hugely extended, many rooms were a long distance from reception etc.. Three floors however no lift. Not particularly suitable for customers with reduced mobility. Our room had balcony doors with windows above but both were locked. Reception said for health and safety reasons these had to be locked and guests should use air conditioning. I had to argue my case that due to health problems I required open windows rather than A C. The bedroom was rather dusty and in the bathroom our WC would not flush properly. We had to wait about forty five minutes for the maintainance man to be recalled from his home as he had already left for the day. The following day we had to request replacement toilet rolls as house keeping hadn't replaced them. All in all this is one of the worst Holiday inns I have stayed in, it could do with refurbishment. Meals were basic and as a bus group we felt herded in to a side room and had to carry our meals a fair distance from the buffet. Drink prices were really expensive and the barman must have been really bored as we never saw anyone purchasing a drink. I would not recommend this hotel.
We had an Executive Room, not sure what was Executive about it? The room was very tired, there was only 1 bathrobe, a travel hairdryer, had to keep your finger on the button for it to work, the minibar consisted of 5 cans of Pepsi and 2 cans of Lemonade! We had a 30 minute wait in the restaurant for our drinks then a further 25 minutes for our dinner, the side order was forgotten and arrived when the main course had nearly all gone, I must say our waitress was very apologetic. The hotel package we had included bed, breakfast and dinner although we were still charged for dinner, we did claim this back the following morning when we checked out.
The holiday inn in a good spot for a work visit. It is airconditioned and reasonably modern entrance and facilities with good facilities and service. There are no lifts so taking heavy luggage up the stairs is not easy. The rooms are basic but clean and spacious. The hallways are a little tired. Overall a good experience and would go back.
Have just stayed at the hotel on a visit to the University of Surrey open day on 1st July. We arrived tired and late at 11.00pm after a long drive, there was a function on at the hotel and we feared the worst expecting it to be noises but the hotel had upgraded our room which was located at the end of a corridor and we didn't hear a peep from anyone. Room was spacious and comfortable, my wife and I had differing views on the comfort level but these were very good and excellent so no problem there and my daughter slept well on the sofa bed. Our room was right on the end of the property next to a road junction but was well insulated from outside noise. Breakfast was very good albeit a bit of a free for all which is to be expected when a hotel is busy however, manners cost nothing, pushing in to the front of the queue is rude (pond life please take note) having a hangover is not an excuse ! Staff were polite and helpful. Will certainly stay again if next in the area.
A great place to stay overnight for a Surrey University Open Day. Friendly, fast and efficient check in, large, super clean room with everything you would need - even fresh milk delivered to our room for tea/coffee. Breakfast was perfect - lots on offer to suit all tastes, including cooked breakfast/porridge etc. Would have no hesitation to return. Thank you.
I had to travel for some business and wanted a hotel for my wife and I to relax in afterwards. Upon checking in the staff were very helpful and cheerful which was a welcome change from many hotels. Upon checking into our room we found the fridge was not working so I called the front desk and within 2 mins someone came to check it and confirmed it wasn't working within another 2 mins 2 engineers turned up with another fridge which they quickly fitted. The pool is small but perfect for a leisurely swim and they also have a jacuzzi , steam room and sauna. We are out in the evening so cannot comment on the meals how ever we had breakfast as there was a good selection of food both hot and cold and even decaf tea. There was also a pancake machine which was quite novel and plenty of toppings. All in all it was a very pleasant stay and would defiantly recommend to others.
Good hotel, friendly staff, good location for Aldershot and the air fair, which is on every two years, excellent for the army museums and surrounding countryside, which is Hampshire at its best, recommended.
I do wish hotels wouldn't offer breakfast in your room and then not bother to even pick up the order. I faithfully ticked the little boxes and left it hanging on my door knob. It was still there the next morning. Second time this has happened at a holiday inn. Apart from that, and the music that went on until midnight, it was a nice stay. Comfortable bed. Nice room.
