An excellent hotel for the purpose of our visit, a two night stay prior to a cruise from Southampton. Relatively close to the M3, a stay at the hotel removes the stresses which occur when driving to Southampton on the day of departure. The hotel provides a lovely enclosed garden, unusual for a city centre hotel.i would recommend requesting a room overlooking the garden.

1-the man who seated us most mornings was less than cordial. We asked to sit at the table just inside the door. He said, "No. We like to save that table for the other guests." The next 3 mornings in a row, he seated people from MY group, not "the other guests." 2-useless safety latch on room door. Even when engaged, it was still possible to enter the room with the key alone. 3- very loud doors in the hallway early and late every day whilst many were trying to sleep. It would be so easy to avoid all the slamming doors by adding something to allow the door to close quietly.

Good room. Good food. Good location. Excellent and helpful staff. Lovely garden! I really appreciated having tea and kettle in the room, having windows that could open. The garden view and scent gave the room significant appeal.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel as our niece was getting married in Winchester and was having the evening buffet at the hotel. It was a bit tricky to find as it was in a side road off the one way system, but we got there eventually. A lovely hotel with helpful staff. Our room was fresh and clean and had everything we needed, including tea and coffee making facilities. The room had a lovely view over the garden. We particularly liked the location of the hotel as it was walking distance to the cathedral, shops and restaurants etc. We will definitely be returning there again in the near future!

very satisfied over all but your weak area isdefinitely reception. at least more staff at peak times. i was careful with my timing and missed the bad times but relatives and friends got caught. could you possibly enlarge the facilities, and ensure adequate staffing.

No travel cot in the room even though one was requested when I booked the room. Asked at reception for one, 20 mins later called down from the room to see where it was, 15 mins after that I went down to the reception to find out what was going on and eventually went with the staff member to find the storage room in which I and not the staff member actually found the travel cot and brought it to my room. There was a wedding in at the venue on the day we stayed but we were not informed of this prior to arrival. I had booked two deluxe rooms as it was my wife's birthday and her parents were travelling with us but neither room had air conditioning, it was a warm stuffy night and we couldn't open the windows due to the excessive noise coming from the wedding dj and the guest in the garden that our rooms overlooked. On complaining about the noise I was informed by the manager that the music would be off at midnight yet when I went down to the reception at 12:15 I had to remind him of the time. When we first arrived we couldn't park in the car park as it was full which was fine as we had arrived late but we couldn't get out due to the barrier being down but when we rang the intercom and finally got hold of someone they didn't lift the barriers or give us the code so we were still stuck in the car park, it took another guest who knew the code to let us out!! As my father in law is registered disabled and can't walk far at all it was a massive inconvenience to have to park atleast 10 minutes walk away in the tower road multi storey. It was not a 4 star experience as I though I was booking the best hotel in Winchester but it certainly didn't feel like that. I have waited almost a week for a member of management to contact me about our poor experience as I was promised they would but as yet have not. I feel this is disgusting customer service and that best western should be ashamed!!

A pleasant stay, very nice spacious room. Excellent breakfast. Well positioned for access to City. Very pleasant garden but needed a good clean up after a wedding celebration, silver foil ribbon confetti still all over the lawn the next day. Check in took 20 mins and check out was not much better.

We recently visited Winchester and stayed for two nights at the Winchester Royal Hotel. Booked direct with hotel combining DBB rate and DB inc of afternoon tea for the second night as we had booked a restaurant in the city to eat for dinner. Both nights being good value for money. Dinner on first night was tasty and portion size was just right. Afternoon tea was delicious, fresh and well presented. All staff at the hotel were courteous and helpful. Thank you to the barman for making us a complimentary cocktail to try and sending a special treat from a local deli he was telling us about to our room. We felt welcome at the hotel the moment we arrived. Our room was a standard double and was fresh, clean and decorated tastefully. Thank you also to reception for the wedding anniversary card you kindly arranged on arrival. We will definitely be back soon.

Tucked away in a quiet street but close to the shops and cathedral this is an ideal place to stay for a short break in this lovely city. Rooms are mostly in a modern annex at the rear overlooking the gardens, well equipped and spacious but lacking air conditioning. Limited but reasonably secure parking for £10 a night. Friendly welcoming staff. Buffet style breakfast with the usual selection of cereals, fruit, and full English with DIY toast. Can't comment on restaurant as didn't eat there. Would stay again and perhaps try the restaurant next time.

Hotel ideally located in city centre with parking (£10 per day). Rooms very clean/comfortable. At breakfast 40 min wait for a 2nd cup of coffee (asked 4 times), no apology in restaurant but profuse apologies in reception and not charged for parking as recompense.
