Novum Hotel Belmondo Hamburg Hbf.4.0 out of 5.0

I was a bit apprehensive staying here after reading some reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. I did not once hear any traffic from the road outside it was very quiet even though the road is busy. Some one had written you take your life in your hands crossing the road. Obviously they can’t see around them just further down is a crossing which gives you plenty of time as I am disabled and did not have to panic. My room was spotless and towels changed every day. They even folded my pyjamas and put them on my pillow❤️. The only problem I had was I booked via booking .com and requested a room with a bath, when I arrived they didn’t have this room available. I asked a further 2 times and still none available. Over all I had a very pleasant stay
Well I decided to visit Hamburg to begin this year. Choose this hotel in a travel book agency. Choice done based on location and price. The hotel is good but not a 4 stars worth, in fact when I saw the price paid, it could not have been a 4 stars. So money price quality is fair. Breakfast same comments, price was fair, so the breakfast. Room was a little too dark, only two bed lamps.
Within walking distance of central Hamburg, Novum Belmondo is a small but functional hotel which pretty much what you'd expect for the good price we paid. The room is small but very clean and comfortable. You get no bells and whistles but for a short stay in Hamburg it is ideal.
A 4 star EU hotel, very nice rooms, friendly staff and very good price. 15 minutes from centre by U train. Good facilities around. Worth the price. Leaving the airport, using S1 train the hotel is only 500 Mts from station. Very easy to find.
My friends and I stayed here for three nights. The kettle did not work, there was no fridge, there was dirt under the beds, the pillows were really uncomfortable... There is a lot to improve, although the wifi and the heating worked good.
We stayed in this hotel for my hen do. We booked 3 rooms. All of them were cramped and old fashioned. There were no fridges in any of our rooms. The exhaust ventilation in the bathroom was rattling like an old diesel engine. The staff was very unfriendly, not speaking proper English, unprofessional and no service minded. The neighbourhood is pretty boring. Hotel location is next to a main road, so rooms were very noisy. The worst happened the evening before our early morning departure. One of my friends found out that 50 EUR cash left aside in her luggage for taxi back to the airport has disappeared. We reported it to the reception and then escalated to the hotel management. They were not able to deal with the situation. We left and filed complain to the hotel chain management. After 3 months of complaining and escalating our case to the top management, we luckily got a reply from a junior employee of customer relations. They promised to reimburse us 50 EUR. It took them another 2 months and several reminders to send it to my account. It has been a very unpleasant experience and I would definitely recommand this hotel to any other traveler.
Let’s get real here - no one who has stayed here & reviewed this place has paid mega bucks for a room or expected it to be a palace for the price either! Yes, it’s a 10 minute walk from the train station, yes the location isn’t the most salubrious but I never felt threatened or unsafe. Yes it’s next to a busy road but this is a city not the countryside. I stayed in a triple room with my family that was a little bit neat because of the extra single bed in the room - but at least my teenager didn’t have to sleep on a camp bed with their feet hanging off the end which is my bug bear. There is no fridge/mini bar - it’s clearly been taken away - would have been good for it to be there but...! The tv has only 2 English speaking channels and neither one is BBC World strangely. There is a kettle and limited beverages and milk. There’s also a safe. The room is inoffensive but with cheap 80s furniture and similarly the soft furnishings are basic. What you can expect from here is a spotlessly clean room. Carpets in hotels I hate but this one was clean and didn’t make your feet dirty - a first I have to say! The bathroom was compact but again adequate, with plenty of towels and it was clean. The beds were comfortable, with clean linen. I requested extra pillows and this was not a problem. WiFi is free and works well.Check in was straightforward, with the staff member being polite if not overtly friendly. The housekeeping staff are super and doa great job as well as being pleasant and helpful. The location is fine, 10 minutes from the station and centre. There are small shops nearby and a supermarket 10 minutes away. I didn’t have breakfast, which was overpriced at €14.90 and didn’t use the bar. I didn’t spend a huge amount of time here. It’s a good, economical place to rest your head to explore Hamburg. If you want luxury put your hand deeper in your pockets and pay for it. This isn’t a 4* by any means but it’s clean, cheap and perfectly acceptable.
The only good thing about this Hotel is that it is near the 112 bus stop which has a wonderful route. BUT you must take your life in your hands to cross the two roads. The location is quite dangerous and I would advise singles never to walk back to the hotel alone at night. There was no A/C in my room and it was very warm even in September. It was essential to keep the window open. It is OK if you remember to bring your ear plugs as the traffic noise is horrendous. None of the rooms have a view. The breakfast is very expensive at 14.90 and quite poor.
Booked two nights in this hotel with my family as we were meeting my daughter in Hamburg. The hotel is about 10/15 minutes walk from the main train station and not in the nicest of areas. As it is referred to as the Hauptbahnhof hotel, I was expecting it to be much nearer to the station than it was. We had a queensize double room on the second floor overlooking a three lane road. The noise from the traffic was horrendous and didn't ease up at all throughout the night. With the windows closed it was almost as bad, but then the room became very warm so sleeping was almost impossible. The bed was pushed into a corner so whoever slept wall side had to clamber over the other person to access the bathroom during the night. The room was very basic but had tea/coffee making facilities and the bed was comfortable which made being unable to sleep due to the traffic noise even more frustrating. Lighting in the room was very poor. I didn't book breakfast there as I couldn't establish from the website what it comprised so booked elsewhere. Decided to have a drink in the bar one evening and out of two choices of white wine, my choice wasn't available which left me with one that was most unpleasant. I wouldn't stay in this hotel again
