Novum Hotel Belmondo Hamburg Hbf.4.0 out of 5.0

We lived for a weekend on the hotel. We had a one mans room and a room with 3 beds. It worked fine. Close to centrum, about 10-15 mins walk. Most of the receptionists can talk english. The hotel is out to a trafficing road and not really any green areas.
The hotel room was clean and the reception and cleaning staff were friendly. A ten minute walk from the main station but for us at least, not that easy to find. It is situated on a busy main road and well within hearing distance of the Hauptbahnhof. In September we could keep the windows closed to keep the noise manageable but I imagine that in the summer it would be quite stifling. Our room was on a corner so we had two walls with large windows, one of which opened fully over a five storey drop. The 'view' was of air con units and the road. No bath and the shower head would go no higher than shoulder height so less than ideal. Also a little thing but annoying, each day we were given four coffees and only three milks. The bar too was not very good. I asked for white wine and were told that the only one they had was not chilled, a small sample revealed it was also not drinkable. My partner finished his beer and was not offered another...we figured that in this less than welcoming bar this was their loss! Wouldn't go back.
A 3* + hotel Clean and fresh linens and towels Clean rooms and toilet Basic hotel suitable for a stopover 10 min walk from Hamburg main train station No nearby supermarket Corridor carpets gives the impression of an old hotel - dark spotted maroon but rooms are of an acceptable standard
Stopped here for three nights back in June 2016, didn't expect much based on previous reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Clean and spacious room with a good en-suite bathroom. Hotel is around 10/15 minutes walk from Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, so is in a decent spot for travelling around the city. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
Positive things first : Double room is of pretty good size and clean. The best is the big bath room with bathtub and shower. The Railway Station is within walking distance if you have only small bag. Negative points : Reception staff not very service minded. At check -in, without asking my preference, I was brought to the door of room number 3. Without even opening the door I refused to accept it because it was just a few meters from the reception on a narrow corridor where room service staff moved with their trollies full of used linen. The two elevators were next to this room. All this would have caused lots of noise day and nite. Also the room window would have been next to parked cars. My mobile phone gave warning to connect to the only available network LAN1 thus could not use Internet. On the wall the room has aircondition unit. As the weather today on 30 of August was +27 degrees I started to look for ways to operate it. Nothing found, thus I went down to the reception where I was told, without giving a reason, that the system does not work in any room! There is no lobby and the restaurant is ugly. I cannot recommend this hotel!
Very dated, tiny cramped rooms also very dated and run down. Our room had cracked windows and i was cold from the draught. Mouldy room and the receptionist refused to give our money back when we said the room was unacceptable. There were other people complaining about the hotel but the staff were not interested. See pictures. I strongly hope someone revises the stars on this hotel.
I would definitely not recommend this hotel having stayed here for two nights whilst visiting friends in Hamburg. On arrival around 10pm I was allocated a horrible twin room (room 1) at below street level close to reception. As I had booked a room with Queen size bed I complained and was told by a surley receptionist who was really not interested in helping "you have what you booked and anyway we are full". The following morning I again spoke to reception and was offered room 4 which was apparently actually the room I had booked (now at street level, again close to reception, right by the front door of the hotel) but I rejected this as it was still small and very dingy. I eventually got given a reasonable room on the 5th floor with a much better view, light and airy, more comfortable. But this was not without quite considerable persuasion. I would not recommend this hotel. It is badly managed, unwelcoming and in an unpleasant street. There are other hotels nearby which are a reasonable price and much better quality. Also don't pay up front of you do stay here just in case you get adjusted l allocated the room I was given!
Very good price if you book in advance. The hotel is 10 min walking from the main train station and the center. Good quality rooms, front desk not very helpful, besides a lady " Frau Turkel" who was very kind and helpful with us.
This is not a four star hotel. Admittedly, the public area was clean and tidy and our room was generally very clean and tidy but when we arrived our room - smelt horribly of cigarette smoke. This was surprising as there is a sign which clearly stated this is a no smoking hotel. We had to keep the windows open for several hours to air the room. The beds and towels were clean and so was the bedroom and bathroom, but the bathroom is minuscule. You cannot maneuver far, and if you are in the shower you are in danger of falling out on to the toilet or into the sink. The pillows on the bed are awful, it as if they are just stuffed with tissue paper and the duvet is incredibly thin, which would be fine in the summer but not so great in early spring. The other problem is the noise! The sound of the traffic and the train going back frequently is extremely loud and disturbing, and we didn't sleep well during our stay. The worse part of this hotel is the service you receive from staff. They are incredibly rude, and everything seems to be a massive inconvenience for them, as if you have disrupted them at home. We had a major issue on our last night before departure, as our key card for the room would not work. The two staff members were rude, and unhelpful about this and after sending us up with 3 separate cards they decided to come up and look for themselves, they appeared to not believe us. We finally got in using the master key, but they refused to give us a key then, and said if we wanted to go out we'd have to tell someone to let us in on the way back - considering the service so far this was going to be problematic we expected, especially as they wouldn't put a note on the system. After around a hour and half my friend and I returned to reception and asked for a key, and despite it being the same staff member he could not recall the issue and said another member of staff will deal with it. This was incredibly frustrating. It was our last night in Hamburg and we wanted to go out but this prevented that eventually around 10:30/11 am we were given a key, but we had lost most of the evening. Small hotel, clean but terrible service and bad location due to sound. I wouldn't recommend or stay again.
I guess you get what you pay for. But I have paid similar amounts for much nicer hotels. This hotel is very dated. Reception staff were friendly(ish). We were on the fourth floor and as soon as you came out of the lift there was a horrible smell. The room itself smelt like feet (we aired it for some time). Cleanliness was 'acceptable'. There was the odd hair in the towels that made me question if they were actually as clean as they looked. The area around the hotel is very run-down, it's close enough to the centre, yes - (20 min walk) but we did see a couple of homeless people shooting up under the bridge near the hotel on the way to the Centre.. Short story, as cheap as this may be, I would not stay here again or recommend this hotel.
