Novum Hotel Belmondo Hamburg Hbf.4.0 out of 5.0

This is not a four star hotel. Admittedly, the public area was clean and tidy and our room was generally very clean and tidy but when we arrived our room - smelt horribly of cigarette smoke. This was surprising as there is a sign which clearly stated this is a no smoking hotel. We had to keep the windows open for several hours to air the room. The beds and towels were clean and so was the bedroom and bathroom, but the bathroom is minuscule. You cannot maneuver far, and if you are in the shower you are in danger of falling out on to the toilet or into the sink. The pillows on the bed are awful, it as if they are just stuffed with tissue paper and the duvet is incredibly thin, which would be fine in the summer but not so great in early spring. The other problem is the noise! The sound of the traffic and the train going back frequently is extremely loud and disturbing, and we didn't sleep well during our stay. The worse part of this hotel is the service you receive from staff. They are incredibly rude, and everything seems to be a massive inconvenience for them, as if you have disrupted them at home. We had a major issue on our last night before departure, as our key card for the room would not work. The two staff members were rude, and unhelpful about this and after sending us up with 3 separate cards they decided to come up and look for themselves, they appeared to not believe us. We finally got in using the master key, but they refused to give us a key then, and said if we wanted to go out we'd have to tell someone to let us in on the way back - considering the service so far this was going to be problematic we expected, especially as they wouldn't put a note on the system. After around a hour and half my friend and I returned to reception and asked for a key, and despite it being the same staff member he could not recall the issue and said another member of staff will deal with it. This was incredibly frustrating. It was our last night in Hamburg and we wanted to go out but this prevented that eventually around 10:30/11 am we were given a key, but we had lost most of the evening. Small hotel, clean but terrible service and bad location due to sound. I wouldn't recommend or stay again.
I guess you get what you pay for. But I have paid similar amounts for much nicer hotels. This hotel is very dated. Reception staff were friendly(ish). We were on the fourth floor and as soon as you came out of the lift there was a horrible smell. The room itself smelt like feet (we aired it for some time). Cleanliness was 'acceptable'. There was the odd hair in the towels that made me question if they were actually as clean as they looked. The area around the hotel is very run-down, it's close enough to the centre, yes - (20 min walk) but we did see a couple of homeless people shooting up under the bridge near the hotel on the way to the Centre.. Short story, as cheap as this may be, I would not stay here again or recommend this hotel.
Interesting hotel. Rated as 4-star but I am not sure what all the criteria are. It was comfortable, quite quiet even though several train lines in and out of Central Station were not far away. If you are thinking of an evening meal, you won't get one here - it does not have a restaurant. True, it has the breakfast room for the buffet breakfast in the morning and this doubles up as a bar in the evening. The room we stayed in for two nights was comfortable, the shower and bathroom facilities adequate. We stayed on the 6th floor, There is a lift but the hotel describes itself as not wheelchair-friendly, and this is true. For a couple of nights it was OK. No complaints.
Nice clean hotel but a bit off the beaten track from the centre 15mins walk approx. When walking from the centre there is an area that is a bit dodgy especially at night There isn't anything in this area as regards socialising/bars/restaurants. Hotel is on a noisy road with trains/traffic passing. Bus route to central station near only a few stops where you have UBahn & SBahn which is very cheap for travelling around Hamburg.
We had a long stay in this hotel for 27 nights. NO discounts for NOTHING, not even for the 4 euros bottle with warm water from the room - which is normaly complimentary in a 4 stars hotel! Very bad management...Over priced standard room with no sound proofing (the walls are moving when someone enter/exit from their own room) , no room service no mini bar and very poor quality pillows. Also, parking is 8 Euros/night - which can be avoided by parking along the street for free! The most important - NO LIGHTS inside the room, only a poor bedside lamp! And if you combine this with the poor internet speed (especially in the evening time) - you will get a complete image of a nightmare business trip! I don't recommend this hotel, not for a 4 stars one! Despite the reception and restaurant area, which are acceptable - the rooms, the elevators and the quality of sleep here is far away of a normal 4 stars hotel! Do I have to menton that I have spent more than 30 minutes at the reception area, because the old blonde lady from the reception desk was very slow and incapable to find my booking in the system? I had to show her on my laptop the e-mail with my confirmation from the website where I've made my booking...and even in this conditions, she was sooooo bad processing my booking! Also, it was an emergency situation one evening and the police evacuated the hotel. The reception staff WERE VERY BAD in providing guests any information or advices!!!!! They were concentrated to escape themselves - and when the situation was over, they returned to work 30 minutes later - and all the guests had to wayt outside the hotel like a crowd of fulls!!!! Shame on you people from Novum Belmondo Hotel - I never come back in this poor hotel and I will never recommend it!
We spent three nights here for the xmas markets and we couldn't fault our stay. 10mins from the hauptbahnhof so we could get anywhere. We bought the hamburg travel card which cost 43 euro for 2 for 3days on all travel (not taxis). Although the taxi was only 22euro from to the airport. Staff was friendly and helped when need and the room was clean. Would stay here again!
Good for small trips, comfortable, great location (10 minutes by foot to the Hamburg's Main Station), very quiet despite location. Recommended. The surrounding area does not look so pretty and it is very dark at night. The cleaning of the room could be a bit better.
Booked 2 rooms. 1 singel and a triple. They upgraded the singelroom to a double with no extra charge so a family didnt had to stay alone. Great service and hospitality. You can take the bus 112 a few stops from the Hauptbahnhof (on the side of the Saturn shop ) to the Hotel. Its also possible to walk 10-15 minutes from HBF. The rooms are clean and spacious. Wifi is good, but there was no fridge/minibar in the room. Didnt get the chance to have breakfast at the Hotel, but my family that have stayed several times at the hotel says it good. I will recommened this Hotel for all travellers to Hamburg and i will stay here again.
Certainly would not say this hotel is a four star. Very small room. Dated decor. Bathroom had chips of paintwork missing no bath just a shower with a old fashioned curtain. Attempted to call room service at 9pm on one night to be told there was no room service at that point. An empty cupboard where there was once a mini bar. Pillows were an absolute waste of time, like sleeping on a piece of kitchen roll. When asked for more you are limited to two each and no more! The reception looks great and modern when you walk in. So does the restaurant. They need to invest and bring the rooms up to standard. Another thing of note this hotel is directly across the road from a train track which you can hear a little when they pass with the windows closed.
Where to start with this hotel... well it looks nice from the outside and is fairly close to the centre other than that, that's as good as it gets. I stayed for 4 nights and didn't get a good nights sleep any night. Over priced standard room gets you a poor pillow, no sound proofing, no room service no mini bar apart from a bottle of warm water. The trains near the hotel are regular, but if you stay here you will hear that no problem. This is a poor example of a 4 star hotel so if visiting Hamburg shop around, and find a better place to sleep, especially if your on business and need a good nights sleep👍
