Novotel Suites Hamburg City3.5 out of 5.0

This is a great hotel when visiting Hamburg on a budget. The room was clean, modern and extremely spacious and well equipped. The beds were pretty comfortable however better pillows would have been a bonus. There were cute touches like a free hot drink and a muffin in the morning on your way out. It is located right next to an underground station which is one stop away from the central station for any connections so the location was really handy. Would definitely recommend.
Overall is a nice family hotel. It is very close to U-bahn station (metro) and also to supermarket. The three star hotel has 17 floors, however the breakfast room is not enough in rush hours. The third extra bed in the room is resting on the floor whereas in other Novotel suites is a bunk bed. The internet connection, at least on the 5th floor, was very good. We enjoyed our stay and certainly is value for money although on our arrival the receptionist was rather strict.
For us the hotel was definitely value for money. The rooms (suites) were large although the design was not great if there were three sharing (we were staying as a couple). The decor was, perhaps a little tired; the carpet slightly worn; it was, however, clean and well prepared and overall we had no complaints for the price we paid (less than £70 a night). There was free coffee and muffins in the morning (though it was a pity the free coffee did not last all day). The hotel was well placed for the U and S-Bahn and as a result it provided easy connections to the airport & just about anywhere else in the city. The staff were helpful throughout. The drinks voucher ... like another reviewer I was less than happy that we only got one voucher and more to the point only one voucher even though I booked 2 rooms. Didn't happen in other stays in Germany - so perhaps this is something the hotel could look at. it's a small amount for them to pay to maintain good customer relations - but that aside - no complaints & would definitely consider returning.
We always travel to this hotel as a couple. This time was no exception. I have a silver membership Card. On arrival we received ONE voucher for a free drink in the bar. ONLY for the card holder. New times apparently. The receptionist pointed out that this was the new policy!! We were disappointed about this. Never mind the drink - we didn't have the drink last either. This time we threw the voucher out in protest. It was a very unwelcoming signal to send out, quite unnecessary. We actually talked about finding another hotel next time. It had been better not to give us a voucher at all! The cleaners were a bit too eager to get into our room on the day we should leave. They came twice that morning before 12 o'clock. Not so nice as we were taking a bath in the bathtub. BTW the fitness machine in the fitness room was out of order during our stay...
I would like to share my experience staying at Novotel Suites Hamburg City Hotel last February. I arrived at the hotel in late afternoon in early February 2017. The hotel was located steps away from the underground train, one station away from Hamburg Hbf. Check-in process was moderate and within 15 minutes, I entered the room which was located in the top floor. Room was clean and spacious. Although I could see some wear and tear in some of the furniture in the room, the room was generally acceptable. However, the only thing that needed to be taken care of immediately was the smell of urine in the shower area. Other than this, this hotel is perfect for few nights' stay. It is clearly not as good as the standard Novotel Hotel but it is good for family due to room size. Breakfast was so so but nothing to complaint about. Overall, this hotel is good for those who are looking for inexpensive and centrally located hotel accommodation the next time they visit Hamburg.
The Novotel Suites in Hamburg are a good value. The rooms are a very good size and well-appointed. Separate bath and shower are good, and the commode in a completely separate room with its own sink is a nice touch. Microwave and coffeemaker are a nice touch. Comfortable bed, good linens, nice breakfast and a generally accommodating staff. Modern decor is not to my taste but fine. Some cosmetic repairs in the room are overdue, but the basics are quite good.
Stayed for 2 nights during March and must say the room is quite nice with 1 large double bed and a sofe bed with seperate shower area and bathroom. It is also next to a subway and 10 minutes walk from the central train station. So far so good and now the poor service: checked in and was given a room key, went upstairs and the room was occupied with lugguage. The receptionist did not apologize but rang and complain to the house keeping with a long face ( we should be the one who is not amaze, not her )! Checked into new room and took a shower and found the shower head was totally damaged and unusable ( this should be noticed by the house keeping ) but I have unpacked and could not be bother to change room but used the shower in the bath ( it worked but the whole floor was wet... )
Advertised as a suite with a double bed, single bed, and a sofa bed Booked for 4 nights from Tuesday 28th March to saturday 1st April arrived in room to see a double bed and sofa bed no single bed as advertised As two friends travelling don't expect to share a bed or sleep on a sofa bed for 4 nights went down to reception was not intrestred was told that's the room your got, all rooms booked very rude abrubt gentleman in reception did not care one bit, Apart from that very close to the train station, and the tube, and in a very good central location
My disbelief started already by the booking. We travel with a small child, 18 months old at the time. Upon reservation, we requested a baby bed in the room. Received a response that no baby beds are available for our stay but if we want, we can bring one. Now, huge hotel, with 17 if not more floors, in the city center, I could not believe that. Apparently, I should have. I found the reception staff rather rude, funny enough not all guest interactions I witnessed were as rough. I may not be as fluent in German as in other languages but I manage quite good, so I wouldn't say I just got the impression of rude. So no baby bed, they had however prepared the couch for our baby to sleep in. Of course we took her in bed with us. Funny enough, the sofa was more specious than the bed. I kept wondering, would there have been a bed, should that extra were not free of charge. Other than that the room was good. A studio type, with everything that one might need. Bathroom had both a tub and a shower, separate toilet. Parking is available, although relative limited. It is paid, 10 Euro if memory serves, for the stay that is paid at the end. Location is good. Across the street there is a nice bakery, open on Sunday as well, with great and decently priced breakfast options. A lot of advantages but our personal experience with the service just kind of ruined it, other than all good.
Heater was not working in all rooms in sub zero temperatures outside. They had to bring me an electrical heater unit. No laundry service after 9 am even if you pay extra. Breakfast room is situated in the reception area. No room cleaning service after 1400 hours. Very rude staff at the Reception - only the man wearing glasses was helpful and kind to assist with my enquiries. Printer was not working. No upgrades or any kind of privileges for ACCOR gold members. No toiletries available, no slippers - had to buy my own bar soap since they only had liquid gel, and had to go down to the reception to get a pair of slippers. No room service and not good quality internet.
