Garden Plaza Hotel

2.5 out of 5.0

The hotel reeks of cigarette smoke. It is very dated. There were no towels in the rooms nor soap. Most importantly, we found bed bugs in two out of the three rooms we were staying in. The night manager provided us with trash bags to place all of our stuff in and didn't ask many questions which leads me to believe this is wasn't his first encounter with bed bugs. The bugs we found were dead, but they were there nonetheless.

Had stayed at this hotel about 5 years ago.....wish I would have checked the reviews before booking again. This hotel is NOT owned by Clarion anymore and is very obvious the new owners/management care nothing about the cleanliness or maintenance of the facility. Had 4 rooms total for our group. None were very clean and all had issues (smell, no towels, people loitering in hallways banging on doors all night etc) One of the rooms we booked was the "efficiency suite" which actually turned out to be the manager's apartment. I need not say more.....totally disgusting. Plus we assume he decided he must have wanted his room back @ 7:00 a.m. because somebody swiped the key card and tried to come in the room, but thankfully we had the safety chain latched. Front desk was rude and unhelpful right from the start and ended our stay by calling our room @ around 9:45 a.m. to see what time we would be checking out. The back of the hotel has an adjoining Rodeway Inn which should more appropriately be called an apartment housing complex as you could tell people were living there, not just staying a day or so. Lots of questionable looking people milling around the parking lot, kids playing in the hallways, etc. You would be better off sleeping in your car in a rest area !!!!

No ice in ice machines, shower water drained into bathroom, got everything on floor wet, room had trash under bed skirt and behind chairs. Needs a massive remolding. Front desk staff were friendly. Would have been better if doors locked at night, not stay unlock for exit doors.

Nice and clean. A hot breakfast in the morning with plenty of food. Sausages, eggs, hot and cold cereal. Breakfast breads, yoghurt and some fruit. We would not hesitate to stay here again as we travel along the highway.

I stayed here for one night on business. On first appearance I noticed a lot of pedestrian activity in the parking area of the hotel. The lack of lighting in the parking lot made it all the more creepier. Hotel lobby had an eclectic decor that was just odd, disorganized and unkept. Upon arrival in my room I noticed white fungal looking growth on the carpet by the fridge. The bedding was thin and had holes in the sheets. The comforter was frayed. There was a distinct musty smell. At 12:30 a.m. I was awakened by either a barking dog or a screaming baby not sure which woke me as they were both going on at the same time. There are no outlets available at the bedside tables so upon attempting to use the room phone to ask for a washcloth, towel (the ONE and only towel in the bathroom had a large yellow stain) and coffee pot which were NOT provided in the room I noticed there was no dial tone. Upon investigation it was revealed that there was no phone cord going to a wall jack; it was just basic decor for the room. I trudged to the front desk at 6:00 a.m. to get a wash cloth and a clean towel because the room did NOT have any and when I explained the condition of the room and asked about a coffee pot she said some rooms have them. What? How does one get a room that has a coffee pot? After showering and standing in 4 inches of water that did not drain I headed to checkout and explained to the same desk staff person the disgusting conditions. She assured me she would pass it on to Maintenance and then offered that the conditions were unacceptable, handed me my receipt and wished me a good day. Upon my departure at just sunrise the parking lot was again scattered with people, standing around smoking or hanging out around cars. I was uncomfortable staying at this property and found it to be dirty, dated and did not provide the amenities that are advertised on the website. Oh and I had the heat set on 83 and I am certain it was no more than 70 degrees in the room. I would never stay here again.

This hotel is massive with an attached restaurant and major local bar named Cancun Cantina. If country music is you thing you will like it. The food in the restaurant is average priced and good. The hotel needs updating but don't let that discourage you from staying here. I have stayed here at least 5 times over the past 5 years. The pool and atrium are huge!!!

This hotel is clean. But, the rooms are awfully dark. (Despite lamps). We have been to this hotel for two straight years. The staff is friendly. The breakfast is a simple complementary breakfast. There is no fresh fruit. There are quite a few people that live here in the hotel. The place is a little outdated. The rugs could be re-done, and it needs some paint to make it brighter. if you're looking for a higher end hotel the Hampton down the road is nicer. But this place gets the job done and is affordable.

The facility is under going renovation, however it was never noticed nor interrupted our stay. What areas that ha been renovated looks great. Staff accommodating. Meeting rooms comfortable. Our group will be back next year.

Upon arrival the guy at the desk wasn't very friendly, and I believe it may have been the owner who was pacing in the lobby (kinda uncomfortable) never even greeted us. We were pleased with our room. The pool was ice cold and only had no towels. When I ask for towels they only had 2 at the front desk and was told with a shrug that was all they had. Our room only had 2 towels for 4 people also. The hotel is pretty but needs some management improvements.

We were there approximately one hour when I discovered a bedbug on one of the pillowcasas. I photographed it before I gently killed it in a paper towel. Went to front desk and someone came in, looked at the bug and apologized. WE LEFT. They offered us another room but no thanks. Room reeked of urine smell and hotel is dark and musty. Advised staff that we would not be paying. Pool/breakfast area is dark and musty smelling. DO NOT STAY HERE.
