If you want to be able to roll out of bed and stay only metres away from the beach, then you will probably not want to stay here. But you would be missing out on a lovely, peaceful oasis. Bungalows are scattered throughout the lush gardens on the hill, offering a lot of privacy. We stayed in a superior bungalow which was spacious and light with views into the surrounding trees and a hill. All the bungalows have verandas and some bungalows have kitchens (these would be great for families or longer stays). A lot of thought and effort went into the decor. It may be a bit „over the top“ but it creates a truly special one-of-a-kind place. The friendly staff added to the family feeling (there are some very critical reviews about the staff on TA, which we cannot confirm). The pools are fabulous and offer a fabulous view of the ocean. The breakfast is very good. Town and the beach are an easy 5-10-minute walk down the hilll. The shortest way to a beautiful spot on the beach: after you exit the gate from the hotel’s short cut turn right at the turnoff to the Annatapurna Hotel complex, go down the short hill towards the water and you’re on the best part of the beach (if you enjoy peace). From there you’re almost at the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks. I cannot recommend the Varinda enough, also for families (there is a small playground and pool toys as well as a water slide). For people who have trouble climbing steps the hotel would probably not be a good option. Free wifi is only available in the lobby, for in-room wifi you pay 100 baht for 1.5 hours.
We had a lovely 10 days here, having 3 small children we wondered about not being straight on the beach but overall were very happy with our choice especially as we had 2 bedrooms and a lounge which is a lot easier than 2 rooms. The main positives; Very pretty and peaceful and unique Staff very friendly Value for money Good service for lunch/dinner Doesn't feel over crowded, your choice of pool or restaurant places Away from the noise of Lamai beach road Great views from breakfast or one of the hammocks Could do better Possibly the accommodation could be a little updated, not a biggie as it feels part of the theme Internet access- expensive and not fast Bugs- make sure you have nets and sprays I would advise requesting a place near the pool, a couple of places had great views of the bay, ours didn't. I had seen criticism of the breakfast but I enjoyed it and the surroundings are exceptionally pretty compared to most places We got caught out with 3 days of rain, not the resorts fault but in the event of a deluge the hotel and Samui itself struggle to entertain kids- more a footnote. Thanks Varinda we had a lovely stay and will recommend.
We have never felt so welcome as in the Varinda resort. They welcomed us like we were old friends. We came to look at the viewpoint and we rescheduled our trip to stay there for a few days. The pool is great! Watching over Lamai with a beer in your hand.
I have stayed in many hotels over the years and very few leave a lasting impression, the Varinda is one of them that does. When you look at the pictures on TripAdvisor or FB they don't do it justice individually they look good but taken as a whole the Varinda is a work of art ,by a very talented family, all set in a lovely garden. I had originally planned on staying here for a week or two but ended up staying a little over a month it has a stunning view over Lamai (which is a 10 min walk away) along with other beautiful views to the north, south and east of Samui, easy access to the beach, all rooms are different and very individual (the ones I saw that is), great food, lovely staff added to the unique beauty of the place. The pool area is stunning and you can watch the world go by from the infinity pool overlooking Lamai. This is a hotel to kick back and relax in very comfortable setting with an really nice and quirky atmosphere. The owners are extremely pleasant and I would highly recommend staying here, it deserves all 5 stars and more I love the place!
We stayed at the Varinda Garden Resort in Koi Samui for 3 days. The bungalows are set in a jungle garden which is really beautiful. The resort has wonderful views as it on a hill overlooking the sea. The walk to the beach is down steep steps which was interesting. Each bungalow was private with a lovely balcony to view the garden. It rained the whole time we were in Kho Samui so the resort was a good place to hang out. It is eccentric with loads of interesting stuff around & positive sayings written on things. The pool area looked great even though I didn't go swimming. The breakfast was good located in a wonderful dining area, with friendly staff. My one negative was the room. It was musty & felt like it needed a good airing & clean. For the owners to improve I have made suggestions 1: take out the heavy curtains in the bungalow because they make it smell musty - put up blinds 2: take out all unnecessary furniture - keep it minimal 3: scrub the wall because they have mould ( not good) 4: paint the rooms white 5: scrub the bathroom properly 6: new bathroom towels are needed 7: make sure bedding is cleaned for new guests 8: put fly screens on windows so mozzies don't come in 9: improve internet. It should be free these days. To pay extra is bad news.
We are backpackers and try to travel with low cost's, but we gut to this place by a chance we had to stay because of the beuty and the amazing colurful and peacefull enviurment of the place. The host is amazing and kind. We stayed for two night's that's been unforgatable... Recommended for everyone!
After spending a week on the beach at Lamai, I wanted to try something different! Located a bit further away from the beach front, on the hill side, but still within easy walk to the beach, this charming place offers something different that rocked my boat. As there very few other guests and my bungalow was far from the road, it was very quiet and peaceful. The view from the pool and the little path going down to the beach is great. WiFi is available in the rooms (1h30 for THB 100). The breakfast was very basic. Staff and owners were attentive and helpful. It is advisable to be motorized, motorbike a nice option at MA Travel, across the road, to explore around. The owner suggested a trip across the mountain to Mae Nam that proved really great (signposted as "shortcut to Mae Nam). There are also plenty of choice for restaurants around. The resort itself is set in a big garden, with fish ponds and trees, and plenty of funky decorations all around! The rooms also have plenty of paintings, artefacts and signs that make the place unique and special. Probably not to everybody's taste, but I did enjoy the place for its originality. Well worth giving it a try!
The Varinda Resort , is an amazing place with friendly welcoming people and views that will "wow" you! Simply a small part of paradise. A unique setting with lots to see wherever you look! The pools have great views, the restaurant is quite simply unique and tantalising to the eyes! The view at breakfast over Lamai bay is simply sublime.
We had a 4 night stay here but could of easily stayed longer. This family run resort was unique with consideration to its surroundings paramount. If you are after your 5 star fluffly towels and table clothed dining area this is not for you. If you after a clean, friendly resort with amazing views and quirky rooms then this is for you. Breakfast was lovely but not for those who stuff themselves with a buffet. The walk to the main street is down (and up) some very steep stairs but so worth it. Rooms were clean and comfortable surrounded by trees (remember mozi spray) with great balconies to relax on. We will be back.
We stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The staff were lovely, the rooms were well equipped, the breakfast was lovely and the swimming pool was awesome. The has been much thought, hard work and love put into the building and decoration. Both us and our children (9 and 6 yr old boys) loved it. The location worked well too, it was an easy walk down hill into the town and onto the beach via the stairs (follow signs from reception) and a good opportunity to walk off dinner coming home (actually not that bad at all!) Though a taxi was cheap the time we felt lazy :) I would highly recommend this place and happily stay there again if we returned to Koh Samui
