Arranged to meet a friend in the hotel bar. While I was waiting for them to arrive I tried to red. drink. No one at bar so asked at front desk if I could be served a drink. 5 mins later a waiter turned up. I had chosen a gin and tonic from the drinks menu on bar. The waiter disappeared and came back 5 mins later to say hotel has no tonic. I then tried a Mojito - again another wait until I was advised the kitchen didn't have the ingredients for that either. I tried a margarita and another cocktail in vain. Then I asked for a glass of white wine. Again after a longish wait the waiter appeared with a bottle (open) of red wine. Finally ( 40 minutes after my first request for drink!!!) a bottle of white wine appeared that was half full - it tasted as though it had been around for a while but by then my friend had turned up (fortunately they were able to serve. beer) and I didn't want to have any more hassle. The cost for the drinks was extortionate too! Unbelievable for a hotel purporting to be top class. Lovely looking hotel but don't be deceived by appearances - absolutely awful!!
It's a perfect getaway hotel to conduct meditation workshop. Besides being far away from the city, making it inconvenient to do shopping at town area, the hotel serves a wide spread of dishes for breakfast. Hotel room within beautiful landscaping and serenity view !
We stayed at this resort last week for 4 days and had the best experience! I chose this mainly because of it's location and stunning views of the lake and mountains. Just a note that it is way too far from downtown Guangzhou (almost 1 hour drive from the train station). So if you are looking for just a relaxed getaway and enjoy time inside the resort then this is perfect. There is absolutely nothing else to do around this location. We were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had initially booked a "Lake view Villa" from the hotel's website and as the name suggests I expected to see a lake view from the room but when we arrived it was a huge disappointment because there were just trees in the balcony with absolutely no view or lake in sight. When we approached the front desk, they said all "lake view villas" are similar, it's just a name and they don't have views. After insisting that we are there to celebrate a special occassion, the staff was kind enough to upgrade us to a suite with stunning views of the lake and mountains (just what we wanted!) . We had the best time! Even though we had some glitches with the booking intially, it all turned out very well and we had the best stay. I am thankful to the duty manager Mr.Tony for upgrading us and making sure we had the best anniversary. I highly recommend this place and will definitely go back there someday!
I have now spent a few nights over 3 trips into Guangzhou at this hotel. First off, please realize you are a good 30-40 minute car ride from the center of the city. As long as that doesn't bother you, you will get lost in this large property surround by beautiful gardens and views to match. The staff here is as pleasant as possible, actually some of the nicest Starwood employees that I have ever met. Always, recognizing my Gold (about to be Platinum) status, offering me upgrades to the Villas, driving me to my room, etc. Always going above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable. This last trip, I'd like to give a special thank you to both Rachel and Becky at the front desk - always smiling, always looking to ensure the guest feels at home. All I need now is a full weekend of not having to work and I would bask in the sun, relax in the pool, and enjoy the spa services that this hotel has to offer. I promise you will not be disappointed.
It was really nice resort to spend a weekend with, all the staffs are friendly and kind, even the bellboy can speak good English, we were lucky that we got upgraded to a nice villa because of my platinum status of SPG, the view was beautiful despite of raining weather. Special thanks to tony and ms Xia, they did provide professional help and great service. Looking forward to coming back again.
Nice, large rooms, landscaping. Check in staff is overwhelmed and can't provide reasonable service . Waited 20 minutes to check in; was given wrong room type, told nothing else available. Breakfast as compensation. GM took time to explain about the situation; high season, etc. F&B not bad. Food is standard four star fare, drinks are passable. Service is more easily interactive in Chinese than English and better focused for Chinese travelers than foreign, but would like to help, just need a push.
The resort is located in the suburb area of Guangzhou, set in lush tropical gardens on the side of a beautiful lake, with nice guest rooms, villas, pool villas, and beautifully designed outdoor heated swimming pools. This place really boasts a style reminiscent of a South East Asian resort, or more specifically, the island of Bali. From the beautifully appointed private villa of very nice views over the lake, to the wonderful Cantonese foods served in the YUE restaurant and great service from the staff. This place is just a paradise for a luxurious break. A great escape from the the bustling city We will certainly be back! I would like to give a special thanks to the Guest Service Manager Becky Xia who made our stay unique and comfortable.
This is redefining hidden gem. Never could I imagine such a secluded and well maintained place in a bustle city of Guangzhou. The resort is located by a lake in an idyllic setting. Prefect for people just want to relax or families with kids as well. The spa here is something no one should miss. The resort just got all the elements a perfect resort needs. If you are reading this review, you should just come to stay here.
It is really a nice place，quite and clean. The food is good，but for the breakfast and dinner buffet，they seldom refill the food. For the room，everything is find，they provide baby beds，but did not have a tub for the little one. Overall it is really nice to spend holidays with the family.
I reluctantly booked another Sheraton after a terrible experience a few weeks earlier in Orlando, Florida. My Chinese colleagues assured me that the Sheraton was a good choice over my go to hotel in Huadu, Guangzhou, Crown Plaza. I arrived very late and was upgraded to a villa with private swimming pool. The room was jaw dropping beautiful. The next day I walked the property which was even more amazing. This might be the most beautiful hotel property I have ever stayed at. This place had to cost $100's of millions to build. There is a Chinese hotel on the lake that serves excellent food and provides superior service. So, you ask why an only 3.5 rating? Typical poor Sheraton execution. The main hotel restaurant serves a buffet three times per day. There are all kinds of food, western style, Chinese, Thai and so forth. Overall the food quality is very mediocre. Most of the hot entrees are warm or cold. They just do not have the right equipment to pull off a buffet of this magnitude. The Chef does not understand how to make an omelet with cooked eggs, mine was runny in the center two days in a row. Really bad coffee served here. The food quality did not line up with the appearance and atmosphere the hotel projected. Each evening I would go to the lobby bar and have a glass of wine. I liked this one Australian red that was inexpensive. Each time when I went for a second glass they told me they were out of the wine and suggested another Australian that was $20 per glass. This was the same wine featured in my hotel room offered at $100 per bottle if I choose to drink it. I really found it hard to believe they ran out of the lower cost red every night. During the dinner buffet they would ask if you wanted the Chef to prepare something for you. This is after you paid for the buffet. So the charge is on top the buffet charge. The issue that really got to me was their inability to heat the main lobby and restaurant of the hotel when the temperature dropped 30 degrees from earlier in the week. They spent a fortune building this beautiful property and they don't have heat? The room had a problem with the heat as well. I had the t-stat set on 32C and it was still cool but acceptable in the room. 32 C is 89 degree F, and there was no way my room was above 65-68 degrees F. This tells me that they have a system to regulate the heat so they can save utility cost. I am all for saving utility cost but not at the cost of comfort. The staff is wonderful. Very friendly and outgoing. I am headed back to the Crown Plaza or the J.W. Marriott. Hopefully Marriott becomes involved to teach the importance of execution.
