We stayed this hotel because the person who invited us couldn't find any other hotels according to her. We go often to San Miguel de Allende and have stayed in various hotels. But my advice is, if you can't find any hotel but this, don't book it. Because it doesn't worth it. You should find a hotel in Queretaro or somewhere instead. The hotel itself is so old and absolutely needs some remodeling. The bathroom smells like mold and they don't even have conditioner. Bathtowel is so ugly. And the location is so far from the centro and you have to take a cab to go down to the centro. I don't see any merit to stay here.
Beautiful gardens, comfortable rooms, wonderful staff and convenient location are a winning combination. Leaving the car in the hotel's car park is convenient, since a short bus ride to/from the city centre makes exploring the city trouble free! Both Ruta 8 and Ruta 9 buses stop just outside the hotel and drop you in the heart of San Miguel (bus fare $5 pesos per person).
A comfortable and well attended hotel. Spacious rooms and lounges, and beautifully manicured gardens. As a single disadvantage not having a restaurant for dinner, which forces you to leave the hotel in order to have meal
A major drawback are the paper thin walls ~ strongly suggest earplugs. Hot water is also iffy. According to the representative in the lobby, this hotel is a new acquisition for Royal Vacations which means you are constantly bombarded with "vacation insurance" offers (vacation memberships). You can only say "no" politely for so long. On a positive note, the hotel is in a great location and grounds are beautiful.
grounds and structures are beautiful. Walls are thin and not all windows close. About 2km walk from town. Breakfast was excellent, with many options on buffet. Price offered at front desk was much higher than advertised on trip advisor, but after showing them tripadvisor page, they honored that rate.
The Mision hotel chain may be popular with Mexicans and is likely best enjoyed by Americans used to staying at the "express" versions of Holiday Inn/Best Western/Comfort Inns. This hotel is located outside the center of town (40-50 peso taxi ride - much better than taking your own car!), close to the major road, across from a do-it-yourself laundromat and taco stand (tacos al pastor are a bargain at 4.50 pesos). There is a fair amount of traffic which can be heard from the rooms on the right side of the property - the windows do not have tight seals so while it is nice to have a cross breeze, this means that you also get wind whistling through the room. There is no a/c, but it was cool enough at night that we did not miss it. The room was cramped for three and there was no good usable space for suitcases. The shower was terrible - either HOT drips or low pressure cold, that when mixed still left you running from ever-changing hot/cold water. The menus at the Mision hotels are all the same - so a strong recommendation to mix it up and not stay all at the same chain of any hotel. The breakfasts came with a basket of rolls and depending upon your selection might also include juice (when we stayed they only had orange juice). The service in the restaurant was very attentive and kind though food always dribbled out even though at most there was only one other party dining with us at the same time. There is a mini-golf course that is sure to be a hit with any kids, but the pool is so cold that even our daughter used to cool oceans said "no way." Spanish is a must as nobody spoke any English which came as a surprise since the city has so many Americans and Europeans living here (just pick up a real estate brochure to see how true this is).
Overall we had a nice stay, it is a small hotel, kind staff although they could improve their personnel training they seem to be new or at least not very informed about their job, the place is clean but our big complaint is that we traveled and booked in this hotel because we were traveling with our little girls, that of course wanted to swim in the pool but the water was frozen all the time, we asked the manager to turn on the boiler but it seems they dont have any or at least it lacks capacity to warm the pool.
The hotel is good and despite being far from the center is worth to stay. The problem begun already with the reservation. We found a good price for a room for our family (2 adults and 2 kids), with full breakfast (this was one of the reason to book). Once we got here we discovered that only the parents have right to the breakfast (and not the full one, only the american breakfast, which is not bad) because we discovered that the price was an offer for 2 people and children stay for free but excluding breakfast. This was disappointing. Such things MUST be shown clearly during the booking phase. Other point: we had to wait 1 day to have towels in our room..... The staff was helpful and friendly.
Overall my stay at Hotel Mision San Miguel Allende was ok. Not sure if it was because of the incident that I saw but.... I was there for business and it was quite disappointing to see the way one of the managers I think her name is Pilar if not mistaken treated another employee, her vocabulary, not very professional, I guess that left me with a sour taste from that place.
It's always a pleasure to walk into the blooming grounds of Hotel Mision San Miguel de Allende, with it's backdrop of the pool and windmill --an iconic local place I've visited since childhood... now I get the pleasure of visiting them frequently as they are kind to host the Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende Midday to which I belong. Their staff is always courteous and I enjoy both the simplicity of their special lunch menu for Rotarians or the wide variety available of dishes available on their menu!
