If I could give more than 5 stars to this hotel is would. It is beautiful, the gardens are very pretty, it has 2 pools and a jacuzzi , each bedroom has a balcony , a fire place and the beds are very comfortable. The SERVICE is SUPERB !! It was an AMAZING stay.
Maybe I was there on an off week but I felt unwelcome, and uncared for at this hotel. I think I was the only guest there at the time, and the staff was a relatively glum lot hardly able to help me with whatever I needed. I spoke a little Spanish, which worked fine in the village, but not at the hotel. Every interaction resulted in confusion. I booked for 7 nights but left after 4 nights to rescue my vacation from this depressing experience. They charged me for the full seven nights upon checking in, so I am now trying to get a refund for the 3 nights I didn't stay there.
its a warm and wonderful place to stay in San Miguel de Allende....a beautiful hotel....pretty gardens, spacious rooms if you ask for...great service and food....nice ambiance. I really think that money wise is your best choice
We just returned to the US after spending 5 great days in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. We were part of a destination wedding which has held over Independence Day weekend. There were about 40-50 that attended from the east and west coast of the US, and all had a great time. We stayed at a very nice hotel, La Puertecita, approximately 1 mile from the center of town, which is the hot spot in San Miguel. All the staff there were very friendly, the two that stood out were Antonio and Emanuel. These guys could not do enough to help us out. The hotel is on a hill so I'd recommend to cab it to the center, it's only about $3.00 each way, a bargain especially living in the east coast. If your looking for your daily exercise then walking to the town is a nice way to burn calories. The hotel has 2 pools and a spa. They also have great authentic Mexican buffets, and dinner at its restaurant. The suite was very comfortable and has satellite tv. Most of the channels were in Spanish but watching NFL football is good in any language, lol. The concierge at La Puertecita called a cab for us whenever we needed one and it was usually there in 10 minutes. A little advice would be that if you have an early flight or bus ride make sure you give yourself more time for a cab since there are less around during the morning hours (6:00 am). I'd also say to take advantage of the massage, facial and pedicure spa that they offer. It's only $70.00 USD and well worth it. Well hope this offers a little of insight and help in the decision to visit La Puertecita in San Miguel de Allende.
I just stayed and all rooms have a dome so for Shure you will be awake at 7 am I don't recommend this hotel if you want to rest! The service is really kind and friendly. I believe they could better amenities...
Hotel is nice and they have kind staff, the hot tub was the best of the hotel, the water was almost too hot, we ordered a carpaccio with salmon and it was very disgusting, the salmon was smashed. About the bed I have to say that it was too hard, and our sleep was not really good, good for the complimentary drink they offered at our arrival, in general is acceptable if you find a good rate on the Internet
This hotel is on a beautiful property albeit away from the center of town. The rooms are also lovely but this it where it ends. If you are thinking about going any time soon..dont unless the sound of jackhaamers and bulldozers is what you want as your alarm clock. They are building a huge condo complex right across the street and the noise is deafening. There is a restaurant at the hotel and the food is good but make sure you have plenty of time because the service is very slow. There are two lovely pools but they are freezing cold as is the hot tub. One day our room was clean but we were left with no towels so I called the front desk....sure sure but they never came. Went down and took towels from the pool for my shower. I could go on but I think you get it. Overpriced for what you get!
The Hotel has a lot of potential. It is in need of repair and attention. We booked this room online through Expedia and I did read the reviews and looked at pictures. The room we were given is nothing like the pictures advertised. I posted a picture of it below. We booked a room with a single King bed and our room had a short Queen (some Queens are long). The decor was sparse and dated, the tiles in the bathroom were cracked, the WIFI did not work all the time in our room and there was no view, fireplace or jacuzzi as I have read some have. The biggest problem was the overpowering smell of mold. It was almost unbearable. We complained to the manager when he opened the door to show us the room. He brought air-freshener but said they were completely booked and could not switch our room. The air freshener smelled awful also and did not cover the smell of mold which the manager said was simply "humidity." I have stayed in a rain forest in Costa Rico that was "humid" and did not smell like this! The next day we asked for a fan and they did not have one. We bought gardenias in the square and put them in the room. We tried to air out the room while we were there but it was terrible. We had plans every day and every night so not much time to think about switching hotels for this quick trip but we should have. We came back one afternoon to change clothes around 2:30 and our room had not been cleaned but someone had come in and shut the windows. Wow-with the windows shut you could almost not breathe. When we returned later the room had finally been cleaned. We were told the restaurant was only open for dinner on weekends. We tried to eat dinner on Friday night but the only people there were staff eating at the tables. We were the only two people having a drink at the bar on a Friday night at 7:00 pm. The grounds were pretty but the pool could use some maintenance. You can walk to town easily but the road is very steep and most likely you will take a taxi back. San Miguel is a gorgeous town and we have been many times. I have stayed from budget to the Rosewood looking for different experiences- all of which have been good. I would not book this hotel again. I also have never written a review before because I am pretty easy going. This room is simply unacceptable. This five day weekend was a Birthday present to my husband. Very disappointing. Also, do not expect a lively hotel experience. The work out room is so small and the restaurant is a ghost town. That's very odd for a "boutique" hotel. This just turned out to be a room we stayed in while we took in all that San Miguel has to offer- the hotel added nothing to our experience. I did read through the bad reviews upon my return and another person complained about the rooms smelling "terrible." all I can say is she must have stayed in Bouquet. I will say the staff was nice. The called taxis and were very charming. I did write a letter to the manager to which I received an almost form letter in return.
I had a wonderful stay in the hotel. However, the way the Manager addressed my concerns about the condition of the warm water pool was very disheartening, and showed he lacked the proper knowledge about running a pool of that size. I explained to him that the water level was below the skimmer level, and that I never seen the water moving from the day I arrived, which was Sat, June 20, 2015 until the day I checked out, Wed, June 24, 2015. I also showed him the broken skimmer basket filled with deteriorating debris, which was in the skimmer basket for the five the days I was at the hotel. It was the manager of maintenance who finally emptied the broken basket after I brought it to his attention one hour earlier. There was debris floating on the top of the water, and I explained to him that if the water level was up to the skimmer basket level, and the pump was circulating the water, all this debris would be filtered in the skimmer basket. I also emphasized that if the water is not circulation that all the debris floating at the top will, eventually, sink to the bottom. He informed me that the pool had been vacuumed earlier that morning. The manager tried to convince me that the water inlet, which was on for the first time since I had checked into the hotel is turned on everyday, and that this other small pipe was where the water exited the pool, along with the drain at the bottom of the pool to go to the pumping station. I informed him that his information does not follow suite with the reason for having a skimmer basket where the water flows through to the filter and pump. His explanation was that the hotel is an eco system, and that they do not run the pump no more than one hour per day. If a person wants to swim, they are to let the reception desk know and a worker will come and remove the debris manually with the net. In addition, I asked him if he realized that a pool of this size in the middle of all the plants, trees, and flowers should have the pump running for a minimal of 12 hours per day, and considering the health standards for people swimming in pools the pump should be on. He told me that this pool meets the health standards and requirements set by the Municipal Government of San Miguel de Allende. There was also a cold water pool on the hotel property with deteriorating debris in the skimmer basket. If one decides to elect this hotel, I strongly suggest checking the skimmer baskets for deteriorated debris, and making sure the pumps are running. One might want to take it one step further and check the chemical levels before swimming.
Location: The hotel is spread on a hillside that offers some nice views from the rooms. Unfortunately, I feel that the location is too far from the center for comfortable exploring of this beautiful town. The ride by taxi is only around 5 minutes, but the walk will take you at least 15-20 minutes. Rooms: If you want to escape from the traditional hotel chain room, where every rooms regardless in which city you are, feels the same, this is the right choice. The rooms are furnished with traditional wooden furniture and tastefully decorated, you will find colorful bathroom tails, vaulted brick ceiling, colored glass windows that made the look of the room really unique. They are spacious and definitely give you the experience you would expect from a hotel that calls itself "a boutique". All rooms have nice balconies overlooking the hotel's garden and hills across small valley. However, as we were travelling with kids, we were very concerned as the balustrade is pretty low and the room was at least 20 meters above the ground. Part of the room design is a small glass dome in the middle of the ceiling. While in general this is very nice feature and gives the room more light, I did not enjoy it as much in early mornings. While the windows have black-out curtains, these wont help much as the early sun immediately comes to the room through the ceiling dome as this does not have any option to be covered. Another of the things I did not enjoy is the access to the rooms. The rooms are not directly connected to the reception / lobby area. After checking in, you need to return back to the main road from where you access the area, where all rooms are located, so in case of rain, this is not the most convenient way. In addition, the access is protected by a gate, but the only way how to open it is to use the bell beside the gate to call the staff that remotely opens the gate for you. With the current technology, it would be much more convenient to give guests an electronic card, so they can access the rooms more easily. Service and cleanliness: Overall room cleanliness is very good, the bedding and towels are clean and fresh and the room itself is well maintained too. The reception staff, as well as other hotel staff we came across was friendly and efficient. Check-in was done within a few minutes and a few room service orders we placed were delivered every time within 20 - 30 minutes. Internet / Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi connection is complimentary, but is definitely something that should be improved. Although I found a router directly in the room, which should mean that the signal should be excellent, I could not connect to internet most of the time. The connection in public areas is not much better. If you are near the main reception, the connection is fine, but once you step out of the building and move around gardens, the connection is gone. Restaurants: The quality of food was not bad, but not something I would not praise about. We ate in a couple of restaurants in the town, and the quality was far better than in the hotel itself. Overall: At first sight the hotel seems as a nice "boutique option". It ticks the boxes like unique location and interesting design, however, once you spend a few hours, days there, you realise that a lot of things are not very practical and hotel management needs to work on improvements in many areas. While it has some nice things, I dont think I would stay there again, but would probably look for another place closer to the center and with better facilities.
