I booked the hotel for my employee and paid in advance. The cost was 75.30 euros (69.00 + 6.30 tax). 69 euros was collected from my account in advance and tax was supposed to be paid on the arrival, but when handed company credit card they charged us 90.36 euros - I contacted them several times and still issues is not resolved...
Standard Mercure hotel located 20 mins brisk walk from city center/train station. No shops or restaurants in the area. Clean and bright. Friendly service. Smallish rooms, some noice from the highway. Breakfast buffet good, with fresh squzzied orange juice.
I stayed here one night on my way to north Netherlands. Hotel Location: My friend drove both of us to this hotel in a 3-hour journey from central Rotterdam (we left at 4:30pm). This hotel is located along the A7 highway, next to the Martiniplaza Event & Conference Center and is minutes away to several Groningen tourist attractions. Hotel Staff: My friend and I reached the hotel one cold November night and were greeted by a friendly lady receptionist. She had our records ready and efficiently checked us in. The restaurant staff who served us dinner was also friendly. Hotel Restaurant: I had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The buffet breakfast comprises a simple self-service menu of fruit juices, whole fruits, cereals, bread, pastries, coffee, tea, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, cut tomatoes, cucumbers, ham, cheese and yogurt. The standout items include whole kiwi fruits, pancake crepes, chocolate eclairs, and an equipment that squeezes oranges to dispense fresh orange juice. Coffee comes from a coffee machine and with the hot water from the same machine, you could make tea. I also had my dinner at the hotel restaurant. I ate the €18 Mercure Burger, which was great. Other items from the menu include salads (mackerel and Caesar), soups (Thai chicken and celeriac with smoked salmon), fish (cod) & chips, salmon, steaks (US beef Bavette, deer and pork tenderloin), pasta, pizza, dessert, 2-course and 3-course (starter, main course and dessert) meals. Hotel room: The brown-red-white theme room is clean and comes with a double bed (queen) bed. There are no iron, no ironing board, no dental kit and no bathtub in the bathroom. I dislike the room for its facing the highway which is very noisy. Nevertheless, my tiredness, the room’s noise insulation (can be better) and the comfortable bed allowed me to sleep through the night. The room also has several small patches of worn-out carpet and the bedside reading lamps leather wrapping has threads that were dislodged. Nevertheless, I like the long curving ledge that extends to the working desk, where I can place my luggage and my laptop bag, which makes up for the lack of storage space on the 4 feet working desk. The speed of the free wifi is fast. Aside from the highway traffic noise, I had a pleasant stay in this hotel.
Good location easy to reach - very service frindly staff - nice and clean room. Even restaurant closed on sunday night, the staff in the bar makes a few good dishes. I highly recommend Mercure in Groningen.
Food is really good on evening. Breakfast is mix of breads and salads, with meat cuts. And usually breakfasts found in hotel chains. Room is nice and clean bit small, but everything works. Internet is very good and free. Bar area is popular for diners during week.
Yet another great stay here. Staff and service always first class. Restaurant food is excellent. Rooms are clean and spacious. I've been staying here every September for the last 3 years and the standard never drops. Only down side you have to pay for parking in the hotel car park but it seems to be the same for all hotels in the area.
Good inexpensive hotel (weekend rates). Good breakfast selection, modern bedrooms which was small but comfortable as was bathroom. The room heating was very efficient and at times a bit uncomfortable. The small fridge in the room was a bonus. The hotel has a bar and a restaurant (we did not eat here). It's a short taxi ride to the railway station and centre of town the fares was about €10. All things considered I would stay at this hotel again if I was in the area.
Visit to see daughter at Uni this hotel has become our regular haunt. Why because always a warm welcome, good value deals we take a priviledge room top floor main building at the back. The bar at night provided a cosy haven cheers to Tim the barman and colleagues. A chance to see Groningen fc on the Sunday and then discuss with knowledgeable fans manning reception on return. Looking forward to next April return .Our choice of hotel after a few years now when in town
A typical example of this chain hotel situated by the ring road in a modern building. Rooms are comfortable but not particularly spacious but the bathroom is better than expected. Pay the extra for the two top floors, cheaper parking and a limited range of drinks in the minibar (beer, wine and soft drinks).
The hotel is conveniently located. Room are clean and pleasant furnished. The service is very friendly ! I had dinner at restaurant and it quite good, here it might have to improve a. It as the meat was not correctly grilled (different cooking point than asked ). very
