Due to our home being flooded we had to move to a serviced apartment and chose The Spires which is adjacent to the main shopping area and numerous bars and restaurants. It is also very handy for bus and train links to other parts of the city. Although on a busy road the bedrooms are all to the rear of the property and therefore it is quiet at night. The apartment was serviced daily to a high standard and nothing was too much trouble for the housekeeping staff. Indeed all of the staff from housekeeping, maintenance and Elaine at reception were extremely helpful. Due to circumstances at home we are unable to return for at least another 4 weeks and were more than happy to extend our stay but unfortunately for us The Spires was fully booked for part of the time. Hopefully we will be lucky enough to find another apartment equally as good as The Spires.
Had an overnight stay with family on Saturday 17th March 2018. Apartments were nice clean and modern. Only downside to this stay was the £250 deposit we were asked for on arrival. There was no mention of this at time of booking which I was very disappointed with. I think the reason it may not be mentioned is that it would put people off. I certainly would not have booked if I’d known this was the amount of deposit required.
These apartments are in a great location for the centre of Glasgow and both of the train stations. I had a very comfortable stay, the only issue is that there can be quite a bit of noise at night from the street as I think there is a bar close by but I think the amount of noise depends a lot on which side of the building you are staying. The staff are really friendly and helpful.
I booked The Spires two days before my trip as a Birthday treat for my partner and was extremely impressed by the service received from Elaine on reception. I emailed the day before to see if they had any Birthday packages and was informed by Elaine that they don’t have them but she was happy to get some bits for the room and I could cover the cost when we arrived. I was just expecting a few snacks and what we got was a Birthday banner on the door, snacks and drinks plus balloons and even a card from The Spires. If that wasn’t enough they had upgraded us to a two bedroom apartment at not extra cost. We found the apartment was spacious, well equipped, clean and beautifully decorated. We couldn’t fault it in anyway but the service we received from Elaine was above and beyond anything I’ve ever received in other hotels. She truly is a credit to the company and I hope you keep hold off her for as long as you can. I’ve even put a video up on Facebook of the apartment and recommended it to all my friends.
Don’t normally like to complain but her goes... Was absolutely disgusted with our stay at the Spires. We had book a two bedroom apartment for our family after travelling from NZ for Christmas. The location was great and the space/size of the apartment was good especially for a family with children. However.... On arrival the apartment stunk (extreme stink - you could smell from the moment the lift doors open before even entering the apartment - not just a little smelly!) from previous guests requiring the windows to be left wide open for many hours in the cold of winter. Most plates and glasses in the cupboards were still dirty having possibly been run through the dishwasher without any cleaner - if even that! The kitchen sink leaked continuously all over the bench/floor and through the cupboard and was like this on arrival with water everywhere. The washing machine/dryer was full of left over hair and dirt from previous users and had no instructions. Bathrooms were ok and reasonably clean. Beds were very uncomfortable and could do with replacing or at the very least an under blanket. Walls,skirting boards and heaters were dirty and in desperate need of a paint job or at least a decent clean. The cutlery draw contained 1 knife and 1 fork -not exactly ideal for a family apartment being used by a family of 4 - so much for the idea of a Christmas meal in the apartment! We arrived on a Sunday and therefore reception was not open and we had to self checkin, the following day was Xmas and then Boxing Day. We were not provided with clean towels at all during our stay and there was no communication to say if or when the apartment would be serviced given it was public holidays - what we did receive on our self checkin was a letter telling us if we rang management and they deemed it “non-urgent” they would charge us another £50. We checked out at the end of our booked stay, early in the morning prior the the office opening again following the holidays, but if they hadn’t already taken our money and threatened to take another £50 we would not have stayed even the first night! We emailed our complaints and received what we consider a very weak response saying “they were fixing it by better training for the staff” - doesn’t exactly make up for our disappointing stay but hopefully if they do actually improve it could be a nice, spacious, convenient place to stay... but that is a risk I wouldn’t take again. A complete let down for our Christmas in Glasgow.
Staying here whilst working in Glasgow. Really well maintained apartments with very helpful staff. All the facilities you will need to look after yourself for a few days and regular room servicing as well. Makes a welcome change from tiny hotel rooms with overpriced facilities. Only one suggestion and that is to install larger TV's. The living area is quite large and the 32" is too small when siting at the further corner of the Sofas. A really minor comment though. Does not distract from the experience in any way.
Everything it says on the tin. great location, great size rooms, well equipped, great price, great friendly staff. love the 24 entry system What more could you want??????? Thank you folks cant wait to return!!!!!!
When we arrived we were greeted by the lovely Elaine who showed us to our room and proceeded to inform us of all the best places to shop, eat & drink. Rooms were clean and well equipped and in the best location. Can’t recommend this place highly enough, can’t wait to return. Thanks Elaine & thank you spires.
We arrived from Heathrow Airport very tired after a long flight from Australia. When we got to the apartments to check in, unfortunately our room wasn’t ready due to previous guests checking out late. The staff were very apologetic and we took it in our stride and took ourselves to a nearby cafe to fill in time. When we returned, the staff had arranged to upgrade us for the inconvenience caused which we thought was a lovely gesture considering we had to fill in a couple of hours feeling very feral indeed. We stayed in the penthouse suite which consisted of three bedrooms all with ensuite, separate full bathroom, loungeroom, kitchen laundry facilities. One bedroom had a king sized bed in a large room and the other two had queen sized beds. Quality towels and linen were provided. The beds were very comfortable. The location was perfect! We couldn’t have done better. The small grocery store was close by and of course the great shops in downtown Glasgow. What a great city it’s become! Cool little restaurants and bars dotted around the city and public transport easily accessed at the front door. Loved the balcony at the apartment for getting a view of the street. Fairly quiet at night except one night there was a party in the building behind us but that didn’t ruin our stay. A couple of small issues were that one shower rose kept coming off, and the large sliding doors going to the balcony were difficult to close and wouldn’t close enough to lock. The washing machine was unbelievably complicated to operate and there was no manual to refer to as the symbols were not logical. No manual could be found on the internet and it appears from the forums that many people had the same problem. We took a guess and got a three hour cycle to work. The apartment is a little tired and could do with more regular maintenance checks. The staff were very nice and friendly. We couldn’t have faltered their willingness to help. We didn’t complain to them about the maintenance issues encountered considering that we were compensated with the best apartment in the building and we could work around them anyway. My son fixed the toilet ( being a plumbers son) and so these small things were not that big a deal. We would definitely stay there again should we be back there to visit our family. Loved it!
We had a great welcome by the young man on the service desk but that was it. The lift was dirty although cleaned 30mins later. We had a lounge and kitchen area that absolutely stunk of stale smoke so we left the window open during our stay we could watch television because the remote was missing. THE BED- OMG the mattress was awful with springs sticking up everywhere and a very small bed. We complained in the morning and the young man apologised and said they were aware of the problems yet still took all the money! The double glazing was very poor and we heard every noise. A bad start to our week visiting the Scottish isles
