Lots of good things - food, climate, location are all great. The clientele tends to be older and German. The servers are pretty good mostly of the time. Every now and then they forget but since all the meals are buffet you can get stuff yourself. Beds are comfortable and well used - can see the dip in the middle. The pillows are good enough and there are options though we didn't take advantage. Coffee and water are free at breakfast, for dinner they cost about $3 each, not sure why, plan to ask. Our room is in the shade all day so is very dark. The lighting in the room is also pretty dim so hard to see. The bathroom has good light however. The entire area is covered with hotels, restaurants and shops. Most of the stores have the same things you can get anywhere, prices are expensive comparable to New York I would say. The island itself is interesting, it's volcanic so lots of mountains and twisty roads. Once you get high enough there are pine trees and the temperature drops enough to need jackets and jeans. Spectacular views though and some spots to take pictures. We saw hiking trails and hikers but didn't get a chance to do any. There's not a whole lot of local specialties on the menu except for potatoes and garlic sauce, gofio escaldao and a dessert called bienmesabe. The potatoes are okay, the gofio is delish with onions and the dessert is very sweet and I like sweet. The gofio is made with corn but the flavor is unrecognizable as corn, not like polenta or tamale or masa at all. We didn't get those here, had to go to the capital Las Palmas, an hour bus ride away that costs $21 dollars one way. Driver very unfriendly. The coffee is very good but no decaf and no soy milk. They're only geared for Germans. However the food on the buffet was good, lots of fresh fruit, nice salads, the vegetables tended to repeat but are okay. Nice desserts, good selection including jello. Fish, pasta, meat of some sort, chicken were always on the buffet. There was a sprinkling of English and Irish. Europeans like the island because it's fast and easy for them to get here. No one from home, California, has heard of Gran Canaria and that's okay.
great Location near to the beach with good Restaurants in Walking distance. hotel could use an upgrade or Prices should be a touch lower again. breakfast is very good. very good massage facilities with top staff.
Not very attractive hotel and the rooms were quite dark due to the décor. The pool was good and the benefits of having your own sun bed for the week was a bonus. Almost on the beach and close to good shops and restaurants. Breakfast was good with a very wide variety of hot and cold dishes. Orange juice was poor though. Reasonable bar with entertainment in the evening. You have to pay for room Wi-Fi or a safe if you want it and no iron available, so still in the dark ages in this area
This was our third trip to IFA Faro and have enjoyed every visit. First the negative comments as there is only a couple, we have always thought this hotel to be Adults only and booked through TUI and they advised over 16s, The hotel is advertised on Adults only websites id suggest this should be stopped. Well the hotel has changed its policy, see their website, children are very welcome, There was babies and many children at the hotel, children with water pistols and older children jumping form the jacuzzi into the pool, which the pool attendant told them off. Being woken at 6.45am with screaming children running down the corridor was unpleasant. Now on to the nicer things, the hotel staff are very good, very accommodating and very welcoming and nothing is to much trouble, the hotel is clean and very tidy, the food was also done to the highest standard, all round a great hotel. The location is excellent within walking distance to all the local amenities and the beach walk is always a pleasant experience. Although sometimes can be a little to revealing!! We would stay again but me mindful that the hotel now caters for families, so if we were looking for adults only we wouldn’t stay at the IFA Faro again. 4 stars instead of 5, just because of the reasons above. nothing to do with the tidiness and staff, excellent staff and hotel
This is a great hotel in a perfect location right on the beach near to local bars, restaurant and transport. We had a nice surprise when we arrived as we had been upgraded to a sea view which was lovely. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and the allocated pool loungers are a great idea as it means you can always be sure of a lounger. We had a reasonable choice of loungers although the hotel was quite full. The breakfast buffet has loads of choice though the hot food could have been hotter. Drinks in the bar were very reasonable for a 4 star hotel and the bar staff were friendly and efficient. The only complaint I have is that there should be free wifi in the rooms - I have never stayed in a 4 star hotel (and hardly any 3 star) where this is not the case. I'm not addicted to my phone, but need to keep up to date with emails due to work and to pay to do this is annoying.
Enjoyed our week break in the sun. Good food and plenty of choice. On our first night the chef refused to give me a slice of turkey which was on his tray, instead giving me scraps of dark meat. I commented to the waiter and he suggested I argued back, maybe the Germans do do this. Enjoyed the casual evening entertainment. The room was disappointing as it was always dark. The sun only came in late afternoon. We had been offered a room facing the beach the other way but when we got there and I went on to the balcony (although the view was lovely down the long beach) the awful cooking smell was stomach churning. It was looking out over the row of cafes and possibly above the hotel kitchen. Maybe just a bad moment as no one else has commented on this. But I would love to return and have a sea facing room with sun in it all day. Expensive! We enjoyed sitting watching the constant surfing display either with cocktails of an evening or coffee after breakfast.
Very pleased with this hotel and hope to return 2019. Still enjoying the lovely food, great choice too. Yet again the service at the pool bar is way too slow. .....10 mins to take order! However the Hotel has an in house Cafe de Paris who got our business all week. Pity it's only open daytime. The awful singer in evening is still there singing in broken English. Found it a bit lonely as hardly any English Speaking visitors but I'm sure we will return. Very pleasant and helpful staff.
We have stayed in Maspalomas a few times and always walked past thinking that's a nice hotel and when we found it on the Jet2 holiday web site, we had to book it. First impressions were very good, met at the coach and luggage taken straight to your room as you check in. As others have said one of the best things about this hotel (and there are many) is the reserved sunbed system, allocated your beds for the duration and no more hassle getting up at stupid o clock to bag a sunbed, well done IFA Faro. The staff here were first class, I can't name anyone who stood out as they were all brilliant, Food in the restaurant was lovely and could not fault any of it. Rooms were nice and clean, spacious and the bed was perfect, even though the quilt was a tad too thick, even with air con on we still found sleeping sticky and hot. The location of the hotel is perfect, right on the beach and close to everything, a lot of people seem to book this hotel year in year out and can see why, when we got home we've looked at booking again for next year but found on the Jet2 website are not travelling here from Newcastle, to say we are disappointed was an understatement, we love Jet2 for their excellent flight times. Hopefully we can find a tour operator who travel to this wonderful jewel in the crown with sensible flight times. Keep up the great work you do and hopefully see you all again soon
This hotel was quite expensive but it is right next to the beach so we booked just a Standard Room even though a great deal of previous reviews did suggest sea view rooms were worth the extra cost. So on our arrival you can imagine our pleasure when we were greeted at reception with a free room upgrade to a side sea view room. Yes, the previous reviews are right, an upgraded room with the sea view was excellent. Good size balcony with 2 sunbeds, 2 chairs and a table and a great view! One thing to remember about this hotel is it is mainly geared up for German guests of which they are the majority. The food in the restaurant is also geared towards the German taste although I must say all the food was of excellent quality with a good variety, so there was always enough choice for all tastes and the deserts were to die for. The other thing to note is that the entertainment is a bit limited and mainly spoken or sung in German, but this didn't both us because we were out and about most of the time. The pool and surrounding area is very clean and good and on arrival you pick your sunbeds which are allocated to you for your stay, so no early morning racing to throw towels onto a sunbed! The location is good because you can walk straight out of this hotel onto the sea front. The bus station is just a few minutes walk away so you can get anywhere on the Island easily and cheaply. In the evening the surrounding area seems to be mainly dominated by posh restaurants or shops which we were a bit disappointed with as there were not many local bars to sit for just a drink. In summary a good hotel with a great location which we would be happy to return to again (with a sea view room!).
It is a few years since our last visit .our room was facing the shops on the melonoras prom above the front entrance and blue canopy,it was a lovely room with sunbeds on the balcony we got the sun late afternoon perfect after a busy day out we hope to get a similar position this june.we went half board and found the food great with a tremendous selection for all meals .the staff our fantastic and help you whenever you need them. Now to the pool very nice with the best jaccusi pool we have had in forty year's of traveling abroad with the added bonus of being allocated your sunbeds for your stay great to choose were you want to sit without fighting for your beds at other hotels.just hope this next holiday at the it's will be just as good ,I'm sure it will be.
