We stayed at Hatton Court last year which was superb, so had no hesitation in pre-booking and paying in advance for one of their special offers this year. Champagne in our beautiful room on arrival. It was a pleasant day, so it was lovely to sit outside in garden quaffing our champers!! We both enjoyed steak dinner and wine in evening. Staff most professional and efficient. Huge, clean bathroom with a jacuzzi bath which was a real treat. Breakfast was very good and breakfast waitresses were exceptional, down to earth, caring and friendly. Would highly recommend and we will be back.
We stayed at Hatton Court Hotel on Valentine’s Day 2018 having replied to an internet mail shot, The hotel looked impressive so I did not check any reviews. Arriving mid afternoon I checked in to a nice room with a bottle of wine and rose petals strewn on the bed, a good start I thought, I had also invited my daughter and partner to be my guests. Went down to the bar and ordered sandwiches/tea They duly arrived thick fresh brown bread, beef and some sort of mayo inside, no crusts cut off, or knife, first bite I knew I needed a napkin, no such luck!, Tea was half cold so sent back. Service was slow. Booked a table for four at 8pm Duly arrived in the restaurant and was shown a table that had not been set. Sat there for half of an hour trying to attract attention of one or the three staff that were running around, in the end I got up and cornered what I thought was the manager She got things moving just a bit, I said I would like a candle, The atmosphere in the restaurant was darkish and dismal, not one candle or balloon, nothing at all to suggest it was a special Valentines night, On my forth request for a candle one was brought inside a small sauce bottle, guess what? after about ten minutes the bottle exploded showering the table with glass, very professional,!, Asked for the general manager and was told he was out of town. The service was poor and got poorer as the night went on. Retired to bed only to find the heating was off, Four star?? I’ve had better in a Spanish two star. A lot of elderly couples in the restaurant and a newly wed couple, I was told later that most of their guests didn’t like candles or balloons , what were they, dead from the neck down, Romance? Never heard of that in Hatton Court!, Although it’s classed a wedding venue, romance was not high on their list!! The next morning low and behold the general manager reappeared.a plausible guy who apologised saying the buck stopped with him and again reiterating that their guests didn’t like candles etc, he took the price of the wine etc off of the final bill. I asked to speak to the owner who was around but he stated he would prefer to deal with it himself , I wonder why? My conclusion was that I would have done better going to my local pub, at least most people there might have known what day it was. Romantic, not a chance in the Hatton Court Hotel Wouldn’t go again even if offered a free night Value for money, five out of ten! Derek Adams Bristol. Derek Adams
Visited Hatton Court Hotel to lunch in the Tara Restaurant, on Thursday 5th April. It is beautiful, with lovely hilltop views. The waitress was delightful and the food out of this world. Yet 2 courses for£12, unbelievable value. Thoroughly recommend a visit. Fabulous.
A charming venue, friendly & helpful staff. The MD in the dining room worked so hard to provide good & personal service. Another great advantage was Table Service breakfast, all freshly cooked & excellent. Will certainly return. Thanks to all who made our stay so relaxed & enjoyable.
A last minute babymoon! The heavy snow had stopped, and my husband & my heavily pregnant self bumbled off for a last romantic evening away from home. Now although the snow was clear in oxford, it quickly became apparent this was not the case in Gloucestershire... very heavy falling snow made a safe journey incredibly treacherous (& exciting!) The roads to this hotel are narrow, hilly & winding... We arrived safe to a lovely warm & friendly welcome. Many guests had cancelled due to the weather, it was very quiet but no booking was required for the restaurant... being heavily pregnant this was a blessing, I was starving! We checked in to a cosy, very clean room with a lovely view over a snowy field and headed for the restaurant. Only 6 other guests were dining at the time, the menu was stunning! Service was wonderful & food divine. The only downside was all the refurbishments happening, meaning the main bar was closed and there was very little else to do... So we retired early to our room and thankfully found a movie on the tv. Breakfast was just as lovely and the staff again wonderfully friendly! I would highly recommend the restaurant but check for any ongoing refurbishments before booking.
We usually stay at the hotel a couple of times a year. It was our wedding venue 17 years ago & we are very fond of Hatton Court. Firstly there is currently some refurbishment taking place and it is excellent. The extended bar area is so much better & it’s a good use of space which wasn’t previously used as much as it housed the reception area. They are still awaiting some new furniture in this area and curtains which hopefully will be installed soon. The staff are what really makes Hatton Court so special, a number of them have been there for some years. They are very attentive and work very hard to please you. Our evening meal was excellent as always as was the breakfast the following morning. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the issues at reception & the bar. We arrived early knowing it was unlikely our room would be ready, this was fine as we had already decided to have lunch there. The reception desk has now moved and is outside the old entrance to the bar. Our reception arrival was warm & friendly. We indicated that we’d be having lunch and were informed we’d be contacted when our room was ready. We ate lunch in the bar (excellent food & service again) & this is where things started to go wrong. The Reception staff ie one person, was having to cover reception and the bar. People would stand at the bar waiting far too long to be served and then have to wait until guests had been checked in before going to reception to ask for a drink. The reception staff would then run to the bar to serve drinks and whilst this was being carried out numerous guests would had arrived to be checked in. This happened continually for a good 2 hours. There was a groupon deal on & the hotel was obviously very busy. There was also a wedding the following day & many staff were in the Marquee sorting the arrangements for this. Subsequently staff in the hotel were not plentiful & those who were there were put under tremendous unnecessary pressure. It obviously didn’t give a very good first impression for many visitors who hadn’t been previously. This is obviously an issue which needs to be resolved by the owners/Management. That aside this is a wonderful hotel, with warm friendly staff, great rooms, excellent food and is very well priced. Special thanks to Chelsea & Sam in reception who did an amazing job in difficult circumstances. Another special mention to Vicky F serving in the restaurant, who has the patience of a saint & fantastic communication skills for dealing with awkward diners who were never going to be happy. Would highly recommend this lovely hotel & we have already booked to stay for our birthdays in a couple of weeks.
My gf Susan arranged for us to stay here for a night using an offer from off Peak Luxury including dinner and B & B. The hotel is a pleasing Country House style building close to Gloucester and the M5. Weddings are obviously big business here, arriving Saturday afternoon it was busy but I managed to squeeze into a parking spot. Our "executive room" was in another wing which necessitated a few steps journey from the main building. The room itself was decent in the style you would expect, so no air con or safe, there was a fridge though and a better than average refreshment tray. The bed wasn't the style I usually like, however the bedding was comfy and we both slept well (there was no noise from the wedding party either). The bathroom was fully functional, light levels were a bit dim though. So to the Tara restaurant, I liked its layout with big windows and fine views. Plenty of space between tables too and some amusing music from the 20's at times. My leek and potato soup was frankly disappointing, if it was homemade you couldn't tell. We both had filet steaks for main course, mine medium, Susan's rare. There was a bit of a mix up here which we sorted out. The steaks were fine, mine was under cooked for medium though. Tasty chips and veg accompanied the meal as did reasonably priced Prosecco. Retiring to the bar afterwards the choice of beer & gin was small and the bar itself lacking in ambience. Since the morning was when the clocks changed and breakfast was only served 8-10 I anticipated some issues, in this I was proved correct. The English breakfast itself was well cooked and we both enjoyed it, good job we weren't in a rush though. Throughout our stay the staff we we encountered at reception and in the dining room were friendly and doing their best. So overall a nice place to stay but with some opportunities in the dining experience and in terms of value for money IMO.
Friendly welcome at reception. Room was a good size and spotlessly clean. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom good size and again spotless only downside was the shower which looked far better than it performed. Breakfast was ok but a bit disappointing. Room would also benefit from some secondary double glazing as it was right above the delivery area.
Attended a birthday party which was held in the lovely marque which is adjacent to the main building, access was good which I appreciated as I disabled person. Evidently the venue was used in a regular basis for weddings, understand why with its lavish trimmings. Staff were so helpful and attentive at all times. Food time came and hot selection was laid out in heated servers, chicken, lamb casseroles and salmon were on offer with three kinds of rice or potatoes with a selection of vegetables and having a selection of it all found it all to be excellent. Since the venue is a fair distance for me I would not hesitate in a return visit and perhaps next time stop at the hotel.
Paid £330 B&B during Cheltenham Festival week so expected something better than a Premier Inn but was disappointed. They rely on a beautiful property n the countryside but then everything else is a bit Fawlty Towers. Room 10 is an averaged sized room with a good bathroom but uncomfortable bed (old sprung mattress) and a TV that in the top right corner of the room so you can only really watch it if you're in bed (with good eyesight) or sitting on the window ledge. The vista wold be great but for an ugly marquee and tarpaulin screwed up in a ball on a decking. Late in the evening we had to coerce a very miserable and rude staff member to serve us three whiskies in a white wine glass, a red wine glass and a soft drink tumbler. Oh and they don't take American Express. Find a Premier Inn!
