Reception - very welcoming and spoke good English. The free coffee and tea in the adjoining bar was pointed out and we were told clearly about the main facilities and when there were available. The corridors were warm and well decorated - very quiet as were the rooms. The rooms were warm and beds comfortable although they could do with some drawer space for the touristy types as we were. Radiator was adjustable. Great view from our room of the railway station. The huge breakfast room was never busy and the food choice was very good indeed. Pleasant staff in here too who were keen to help if you needed it. Although the restaurant was pricey (well it is Sweden) the food was wonderful - recommend the Elk Burger, Char and Elk fillet. The food was very well presented. There could be a little more information about the locality and hotel facilities in the hotel rooms and reception - and in English - but we were here only for four nights and had our itinery planned anyway.
One of just two main hotels in town. Due to lack of competition, prices are high. The hotel is focussed on workers within the nearby mines rather than tourists. it is just opposite the rail station where hikers and others pick up the overnight sleeper train to stockholm. Room is ok, clean and comfortable with a good shower. However WiFi was erratic and pillows small and cheap. The hotel has many facilities, roof top pool and terrace, bowling alley, sauna, spa. However it is hard to discover, many notices are only in Swedish and there is no folder in the room with informatin concerning facilities breakfast etc. i discovered the locations after staying several days. Also there is no obvious information concerning local activities and attractions. On the last day i noticed a folder neear reception with details. The reception desk did not point this out when i checked in. Reception desk were not so freindly, no good morning etc. They were also serving the bar, but several times not present and needed to be called because talking to other people. eg trying to buy a bag of crisps at 11pm. Older staff were better, but usualy not present. Several times no reply when phoning reception to ask for extra pillows. Had to go down. pillows were not taken to room. At first they were given to me while i was drinking a beer at the bar. After discovering the location of the ten pin bowling, it was empty with no staff and seemed closed at about 9pm Breakfast in large hall, served until only 9 am mid week. Grubby carpet and stale smell in breakfast room. Breakfast is good. No late check out was possible on the day of my departure, check out at 11;00
This is very convenient if you're travelling on the Inlandsbanan, as it's directly opposite the railway station. Gallivare is a small town, so the hotel is quiet. There seems to be an old part and a new part to the hotel. I was in the older part, but the single room was quite adequate if somewhat small. Breakfast was fine.
If you are on the Inlands Banan, this hotel is in a great location but the breakfast timings do not always fit with the train schedule (particularly on Sunday), so think twice about booking if this is a priority.
This hotel was booked for me as part of an independent trip with Inlandsbanan. I arrived from Kiruna by train, and there it was, only a few metres from the railway station and tourist office. As a solo traveller, I was given a double bed room, with plenty of space. The room was spotlessly clean, had everything and was ideal. The staff were efficient and helpful. The breakfast buffet included so much choice over a large area. Due to the situation of the hotel, I was able to join the Inlandsbanan train on the following morning, without any difficulties at all.
I can't express my opinion about the rooms in this hotel, but I can write few words about their bar area at the entrance of the hotel. I have been here quite a few times and the couches were always dirty, extremely dirty, with spots of dirt covering them. Nobody from the staff noticed that? I was disgusted to sit there but there are not many places in Gällivare where people can actually have a decent cup of coffee. The cakes that they sell are ALWAYS old, hard and even sometimes frozen. For the price that they are sold to it is a rip off. I wonder why the manager doesn't improve this. Doesn't he know this situation? So, as a reviewer this is my truly honest opinion.
Very good! The staff was very helpful. I would have liked to to the spa even in the morning, because swimming alone on a cold weather ouside was not very tempting. The window opener was broken but mys husband repaired it.
Very good hotel, speciality customerservice was very kind and they were very helpful. It was really easy to book a room and if I had something to ask about a reservation, hotel staff always answered quickly.
We booked a room over the Nordic choice website and were informed on the net that only rooms for $270/night were available, which is an outrageously high price for any hotel room in Gällivare. When we arrived the parking lot was predominately empty and so was the breakfast room the next day. It was easy to conclude that we was taken advantage of. When we asked the checkin staff person how it was possible they only had rooms for $270/night on the webpage when the parking lot was almost empty, his response was "Ah, you mean the webpage had limited choices? I see" and then changed subject. The only available room was a "luxury double suite" - but the room was everything but luxury. It was small and cold. We called the front desk to ask if we could have the heat adjusted in the room and the same checkin staff person said that was impossible. He said the only thing they could do was the place us on a room with direct exposure to the sun (which would had prevented us from sleeping since we are talking about the midnight sun). I then asked him how they could had the hotel open wintertime if they had heaters available and as usual he didn't answer but asked whether we wanted the room with direct exposure to the sun - Yes or No? Incredible rude. The breakfast was great and the location is right downtown. Parking is often a problem we have noticed on our previous stays and if the hotel is full (for real) you may have to park many blocks away, which can be problematic when it is -30 degrees Celsius during the winters.
I only stayed for one night but the hotel is indeed excellent. The staff is very accommodating, I could check in early which was perfect for me. The location is good, although Gällivare is not that large so everything is pretty much in the center. The breakfast is very nice with lots and lots to choose from. I had room service and the food from the restaurant is truly amazing! There is a coffe shop down in the lobby which offers the guests free coffee/tea, which is nice.
