At face value this hotel offers everything; modern facilities, spacious rooms, beachside location, lovely pool complex etc but scratch the surface and things are not as great as you would expect from a hotel with such a good reputation. The good is excellent and frequently replenished with dishes to suit all tastes and appetites. For the guest who likes to consume alcohol virtually all day long this is an ideal all inclusive option with self serve, table and bar services on tap. However, if you wish to consume more than one glass of wine with your dinner in the evening, you are in for a disappointment. Even all inclusive guests are limited to one drink during meals unless, as I did, you make a fuss. If seems you can drink yourself silly all day so long as you make one drink last for three courses at dinner. We don’t drink alcohol during the day or sit in the bar all night so do not feel it is unreasonable to enjoy two glasses of wine over food. We all pay the same so should be given the same freedoms to enjoy our food and drink. When it comes to the room cleaning service, other than pulling the bed clothes up and changing the water glass I’m not sure what the lady does or why it takes her until late afternoon to get to our room. I hate getting into a bed with rumpled sheets so have had to remake it myself every day. Starting to think I’d be better off with a Villa... Watch out for the hidden extras: deposit for pool towels at €10 per towel, hire charge for the safe, €45 to keep the room for an extra 5 hours if you have an evening flight etc Love the resort but not quite as sold on the hotel as I had hoped...
Excellent overall stay. We stayed half board and was really happy that the hotel allowed you to swap your evening meal for lunch (you just needed to give them a days notice). Food was good (kids loved the chocolate fountain). Hotel room was very good and clean. Entertainment excellent- the annimation team are fantastic the shows were really good - thumbs up for the Lion King 👍🏻👍🏻. My only gripe (which is very small) if you got a pint of lager at pool bar it would be put in a half pint plastic cup (don't have a problem with this) however you would get charged for a pint which I think is wrong!!!! Overall however I would definitely stay again on this hotel and would recommend it x
Hi just wanted to let any one interested in this hotel please give it a go both my husband and i have now visited tnis hotel two years running for my husbands birthday and as the first time i really cannot fault anything. To begin with i would like to thank all the reception staff for remembering us and trying to give us the same room as last year although they couldnt manege the same room they gave us one yust two doors away.they also welcomed us back with a box of choc,s i thought this was so kind of them no fuss just thoughtfulness you go a long way now a days to find that also a few days later we got back to our room on my husbands birthday and they left a bottle of brut carva and a lovly note wishing him a happy birthday how kind it was of them.both my husband and i have stayed at many hotels but this tops the lot they dont make a fuss but at the same time they thinck of everything. The staff are really thoughfull they definatly kno there job and you can see they take pride in it there all so happy and hard working from the cleaning staff to the staff in the resterant they all are so hard working and freindly i really cannot fault them the cheffs do a really good job cooking all the lovly food and such a choice having stayed at sandals in st.lusha i can honestly say the food at this hotel is definatly on par if not better. The choise of drinks again so much choice they thought of everything from ice cream to special health drinks even all the condaments nothing left out. Please give this hotel a go you want be disapointed i will always go back to this hotel if i ever go again as i know im going to get first class service as thats very rear now. Thankyou all so much for a lovly memerable holiday we stayed in room 3017 we will never forget. Also the hotels grounds are so well kept lovly pool all just perfect thanyou all.
I suspect this hotel is great for families but we travelled as a couple and spent most of our time outside of the hotel. I wouldn't say this is a 4 star hotel... The good - large bedroom with ample storage. Good quality medium firm mattress. - good location. You are right on the beach as advertised and the resort is a 15 minute drive from the airport. There are lots of restaurants in Caleta. - the spa next door was a tranquil and relaxing environment. Get there before 11am to get one of the double sunbeds. The other great thing is you pay your fee for the day but you can go in and out of the spa as you please. The bad - the quality of the food was awful. Mushy boiled veg, lots of fried food and bland 'stews. We went half-board and ate out most evenings and for the last few breakfasts. This really added to our costs as Caleta isn't cheap to eat out. - on arrival we were being checked in then the staff member stopped half way through to serve another family which had arrived - very annoying. - we had booked a double room (direct with the hotel) but given a twin. Reception informed us that we were supposed to request a double again in the 'special requests' section. They don't do double mattresses. They cable tie 2 single beds together. - we were aware that this was a family resort but it's advertised as having an adult only pool. This is not true. There were children in it every day and we then noticed a sign saying children need to be supervised when using the 'adult' pool. - the spa is 20 euros per day. This was only a negative for us because it was the only quiet area of the resort so we went a few times.
We returned to the Barcelo for the 3rd time at the end of March this year. Once again I have to praise the hotel and all the staff who always make you welcome. The rooms are really excellent and everywhere is kept spotless. Most of all I want to say a big thank you to Allesandro and the animation team. They work tirelessly day and evening and are really excellent. Vito and Joy run a comprehensive programme of day time activities and the team do brilliantly with the evening entertainment programme. We really enjoyed the shows they put on and I think they have taken the standard to a new level - in particular their wonderful tribute to the Lion King. If you want a holiday that provides complete relaxation in the sun and a good choice of adult activities this holiday takes some beating.
Super hotel. Friendly efficient staff. Clean and comfortable with lovely pool area. Food and drinks of a good standard with plenty of variety. The resort itself was quiet with a few shops, bars and restaurants. The beach was a short . stroll from the hotel. All in all a lovely week away.
Traveled as a couple, our room was large and we got the double bed that we requested, the staff are cheerful and helpful, everywhere is clean and well maintained. We used the main restaurant and found a good variety of food , plenty of fresh fruit although it didn’t change must day to day . There is a self serving cafe next to the pool bar which had a smal selection of the same food as the restaurant and soft drinks, wine and beer . The pool area is large with plenty of sun beds although the only heated pool was the one with all the entertainment. The location very good easy to walk to shops and restaurants and a pretty harbour to walk to. I think this would be a fantastic hotel for families but not couples.
My wife, son (five) and daughter (one) stayed for our honeymoon as it has all the things we were looking for: - Close to the airport (less transfer time for my daughter) - Lots of pools - On the beach The place was clean, the staff were all very friendly, and the food options were great. The evening entertainment wasn't bad and the room was spacious with good views. I give special mention to the lovely lady lifeguard who came to my daughter's rescue after she slipped and put her tooth into her tongue next to the swimming pool, creating what can only be described as a scene from a horror film. Thank you again for your help and hope you enjoyed the chocolate. Unfortunately, we didn't get to enjoy the holiday as much as we had hoped as both the kids were pretty ill (with colds/fever) from day one until a few days after we got home.
Been here many times over the years and still a lovely hotel. Accommodation and staff are always lovely and obliging. There is new management I believe who have made some changes particularly in the restaurant. This has produced some good and not so good outcomes. There are now waffles available, poached eggs at breakfast and porridge, all new additions. However there is now no maple syrup available (even for the pancakes) and the two most popular items; bacon and omelettes have been ruined. Bacon and omelettes were previously both cooked fresh - bacon is now pre-cooked and somewhat anaemia looking - left out on a warmer, and the omelettes are now being cooked on a flat griddle in small pans which produces solid scrambled eggs as the pans simply don’t get hot enough. The poached eggs too are in a pan on the griddle so the water never quite boils. I did try the poached eggs as the omelette was awful - unfortunately both eggs were raw and cold in the middle. Please bring back the omelettes cooked over the gas hob and start finishing the bacon again so it’s crispy. We didn’t bother going down for breakfast on two of our five mornings as a result and ate elsewhere. We’re all for trying new things but on this occasion it hasn’t worked. The restaurant seemed short staffed in the evenings behind the show cooking areas which meant you were often waiting for someone to come over to cut up meat as none was ready. Don’t let this put you off the hotel - with any luck they’ll respond to the feedback and things will improve again. If like us, you need rest and relaxation you’ll love it here which is why we come back again and again.
