We stayed at Akama for four nights and could not have been happier. The rooms are modern, very large and amazingly spotless. The bed & pillows was extremely comfortable and the bathroom clean and spacious. I am fairly fussy about things and could not find a fault. It has your own parking spot under the hotel and a direct lift up to your room, everything is thought of. The staff are very friendly and helpful with local advice and knowledge. They pre booked a few tours for us at no extra cost and those tours were great and enjoyable days. I would not look any further for somewhere else to say, give this a try you won't be disappointed.
Had seven nights at Akama and it was excellent. Very handy to the Hervey Bay boat club which has lots of facilities. Our apartment was clean and very spacious. Would not hesitate to stay here again when visiting Hervey Bay.
Friendly check in with a local map provided to us and the receptionist took time to mark up a few good local restaurants and points for a us which was very helpful. Our two bedroom apartment was in second floor with nice ocean views as booked. The apartments are a great size and more than adequate for a short stay holiday. There were a few things in the apartment that were broken and it was obvious on entering the apartment so it was a shame that house keeping didn't note and report these things prior to guests checking in.Cleaning was ok but very dusty around the edges of every room and especially in the wardrobes. The lobby outside our room had bad smell of garbage when we arrived and we presumed this was from garbage chute, however the next day it was obvious that an air freshener had been plugged in and the aroma was better, so presumed that someone had reported it, was good to see that staff had tried to rectify this issue. We did have a nice stay and would recommend the apartments, they are situated in a very quiet area so had wonderful nights sleep. We didn't use the pool at all but it looked nice and a decent size with additional spa and also BBQ facilities as well.
Spent a relaxing four nights at The Akama in their very spacious well appointed apartment. Very friendly people and would thoroughly recommend staying here. Location is great - easy walk to the waterfront bars and whale watching boats. Swimming pool heated all year round and grounds kept very tidy.
The definition of a resort to me is somewhere with multiple (service) staff to tend to your needs, maybe a bar/restaurant or room service onsite etc. Akama is a block of apartments with a pool & BBQ area. There was one staff member behind the glass window and she was not overflowing with joy. Stay here for the clean, huge apartment. The pool is a magnificent example of trick photography. It's the size of a very large home pool. I didn't use it but it looked nice enough. I stayed here for a few nights in winter 2017. I was in a huge 1 bedroom apartment that had doors locked off to (presumably) have more bedrooms. The good- it was huge, clean, well located and well fitted out (e.g. cups, plates etc). The bad - As soon as you walk in the smell of cheap toilet cleaner hits you in the face and it stayed there for the whole time. - It was hard to sleep because it was cold (the blankets were like throw rugs in their weight). The air conditioning was too loud to run the heating all night. I was given more blankets but they were cheap polyester that didn't keep you warm. The rooms are very bright in the morning even with the blinds pulled down (there were no drapes). - I found that as long as I was toeing the line of what they were after from me as a customer the staff were nice but once I varied from that they lost their air of warmth. This happened twice. When I asked where I could see whales from I was directed to the tour desk in the hotel. I then asked where I could see them from a beach or lookout and the staff member said, "Nowhere really." and walked away. They run a tour booking company in case you didn't guess. About 10 minutes before checking out I asked if it was OK that I'd be about 10 minutes late and I was told that no it wasn't. There are signs on the door saying what time check out is and you can pay for extra time. I wasn't offered extra time for purchase or otherwise. Just a very blunt response and a grunt when I left from the woman behind the desk. - The "secure" carpark door was never closed. This left the pool area accessible to anybody who cared to walk in from the street. My verandah was on the pool area. I didn't very very secure knowing this. I stay in larger hotels etc for the security/safety aspect. -The carpark is very tight. You are allocated a particular parking spot based on your room number. I would have had a hard time parking if there weren't vacant spaces that I used to turn my car into my allocated space. -Free wifi was patchy. Didn't work at all on the day of checkout. If I were using it as a base for a family to stay it would be great value but the price I paid as a single traveller I would expect a much higher standard of accommodation and service.
We stayed for 4 nights. the units are large with all amenities, incl dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. Great place to organise Whale watching, Fraser Island and even a trip up to Bundaberg. Don't forget to visit Helltown near Gympie.
Our family spend a wonderful 5 days here. The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable. Well appointed kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine. Pool was great and you are within 5 minutes walking distance to the boats that take you on the Whale Tours. The hotel is now under new management and our hosts, Linda and Brad are very friendly and helpful people. Nothing is too much trouble for them. If your looking for a great place to stay while in Hervey Bay then the Akama Resort is highly recommended. Next time we are up here whale watching we will definitely stay here again.
Family of 4 stayed for a few days in 2 bed 4th floor apartment. Very friendly and helpful staff greeted us and told us about local area. Accommodation well appointed, very clean and a really large size. Could not fault it, you will not be disappointed.
We spent two nights in a 2-bedroom apartment with ocean view on the forth floor (if you want to have real ocean view, insist on an apartment on the fifth or sixth floor). The apartment is spacious, clean, has a fully equipped kitchen, a washer/dryer and a nice balcony towards the ocean (doors/keys to the balcony need a drop of oil, we were not able to lock them). Good size sitting area with huge tv. Location: At the Esplanade, just a few steps from the whale watching pier. Good to know: The reception is not manned/womaned 24 hours (actually quite limited hours). If you plan on a later check in (for example in case you first sign up for afternoon whale watching), define a code with the reception to pick up the room key from the key safe in front of the house.
Well appointed penthouse suite. Minimalistic but has just was is needed. 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, large lounge/dining room and kitchen. Close to the harbour as well as restaurants. Our whale watching tour was booked directly through Akama Resort making sure our stay matched our whale watching experience. Hotel staff recommended 2 excellent restaurants The Vineyard and our favourite The Coast. For breakfast we found Eat with Stef and Dan ( my kitchen rules winners) Fantastic weekend. Heads up: Remember to ask for the coffee machine before going to bed as this option was noted in their room guide which I read the next morning, a little late to ask.
