Located in South Florida's Broward County, Fort Lauderdale is an East Coast hot spot for boaters, beach enthusiasts and nature lovers. Parks and attractions
Located along the Intracoastal Waterway and A1A, Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is filled with turtles, marsh rabbits, waterfowl and many other types of animals. Visitors can go bicycling, swimming, fishing and camping. The park has canoe rental and walking trails.
The International Swimming Hall of Fame is home to the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex, a world-class facility with competition pools and a diving well. The facility is used in national and international competitions and has been the scene for the setting of 10 world records, including one set by Olympian Michael Phelps in 2002. The center also has a theater, research library, and museum with historic items and aquatic memorabilia.
Sun Life Stadium in Miami is home to the Miami Dolphins football team. It hosts college football's Orange Bowl and has seen several Super Bowls. The stadium has also held soccer matches, RV and boat shows, monster truck shows, WrestleMania and concerts such as Madonna, U2, The Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake.
South Beach Food and Wine Festival
Set in Miami, the Food Network's South Beach Food and Wine Festival heats up the beach in February. This four-day event features more than 50 different activities like wine tastings, food and wine pairing classes and some of the best entertainment on the beach. In attendance for presentations and other special events are Food Network stars and celebrity chefs such as Rachael Ray, Giada De Laurentiis, Robert Irvine and Andrew Zimmern.
Rock the Ocean Tortuga Music Festival
The Tortuga Music Festival is presented by Rock the Ocean, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing awareness about ocean conservation and supporting scientific research and education through benefit concerts, partnerships and entertainment events. The soft sand of Fort Lauderdale Beach is the site for this multi-stage country, rock and reggae music festival in April. In addition to nationally-known music artists, the festival features a variety of interactive and educational exhibits, touch tanks, cooking demonstrations and the latest ocean technology.
