The Beach Bungalow

3.0 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

This bungalow was just perfect for the two of us. We really enjoyed the tropical setting and the nearly private jacuzzi. Walking distance to the beach. The room was clean and enjoyed having the refrigerator, microwave and TV's in the living room and bedroom. True, you do have to drive to get to Duval and the tourist areas, but that wasn't too bad. Paid between 5 and 10 per day for parking there. Better than a motel room definitely. Thanks.

The beach bungalow was just big enough for 2 people to stay comfortably with each other. It was clean and had just enough space to get ready for activities on the island in the morning, and a great place to relax upon returning. The location was good; the closest beach was a little smelly but there are plenty more beaches to choose from, and the owner of the bungalow recommended a bike rental place that made the trips to the other beaches, and everywhere else, much more enjoyable. The owner of the bungalow was very friendly and accommodating. The deck was a wonderful place to sit in the morning and enjoy a cup of coffee, and also a great place to grill lunch and dinner. The washer and dryer in the back of the house also came in handy, and the kitchenette was stocked with plenty of clean dishes. Overall we had a wonderful experience staying at this bungalow and would definitely stay there again :)

The management, staff, etc has no concept of customer service. I was instructed to pick up the key at some sidewalk vendor booth. When I arrived, no one was there. The employee decided to leave early...totally disregarding the fact that a customer was arriving to pick up a key. The facility itself was nice, but the fiasco over the key was a total turnoff. I go to Key West every year but will NEVER stay there again.

Very cute and comfey except that the bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. Tough for those with middle-of-the-night needs. Not appropriate for those with mobility issues due to multiple sets of stairs. Beach is down the street, walking distance if you're a walker, but not in sight. You can hear people in the next unit very clearly which gives the impression of no privacy. Might be OK for younger singles or couples, but I wouldn't recommend it to older travelers.

Staff was excellant but information from Orbitz for key pickup and location was not good. Love the quiete location. Was close to beach. Some spots on the beach had seaweed but it is the ocean. Look for the light green areas ( no sea weed) People of the area were terrific. Must do the bus tour, the sooner the better. You learn the island, loacations, etc. We did stay in the larger bungalow with the king size bed. Lots of room. Bedroom was the whole upstairs. Kitchen equipped with microwave, fridge, dishes and cookware, toaster oven. no stove.

fantastic. more than i expected

We booked this place because of the location to the beach and the fact that we could save some money and cook at the beach house which was equipped with a "kitchen"-which apparently means a sink, refrigerator and a microwave. The house is tiny...i mean VERY tiny...there is no closet space to put clothes away, the jacuzzi looked liked it hadnt been cleaned in months and it didnt work! when we asked the owner about it he looked suprised...When asked about status of repair the following day he said that the motor was burnt out. Now lets talk about the beach...Smathers Beach smells like rotting vegetation(acknowledged by ALL the locals and the ongoing Gov't clean up)you cant stand the smell much less trying to go in the water! So we had to rent a car..spend TONS of money on food b/c all there was to cook on was a very tiny grill...also the Ad says there is a washer and dryer...well if there was i didnt know about it. Also note Key West is an island,so when add states that there is parking for tenants it does not guarantee you will find a spot ANYWHERE CLOSE TO YOUR VILLA. [...]...unfortunatly we will not go back to this place...Stay at the Hyatt

Quiet and very comfortable with all the necessary amenities. Jacuzzi was not working thru no fault of the owner. Smathers Beach was in walking distance but water was full of seaweed. We combined using our car and taxi for trips to Duval Street and restaurants. Cost of taxi about $10/trip including tip. Room had a book full of info about the island. Discounts available for water events thru the hotel booking.

Our bungalow was perfect!! Less then a half of mile from the beach...we had a great view of the fireworks from our private deck. We plan to make another trip and would stay there again!!

Room was very neat and clean and staff was very helpful. No Pool and beaches were not that nice.

The Beach Villa was beautiful. The covered porch was amazing with all of the landscaping. It was like your own private tropical paradise. The hot tub was great too. We were married on Smathers Beach, just a few blocks away so the location was perfect for us. Close to everything, yet out of downtown. It was the perfect honeymoon. We would highly recommend this rental.

This place is not for everyone. Its very cozy so make sure your going with someone you LOVE ! Its cramped and far away from all the activities , its a 12 dollar cab fare to get anywhere but the beach. The beaches usually don't have bars.(big surprise to me) the hot tub is nice but after sweating all day in the heat and humidity didn't get used much. The owner is nice and will give you advice and discounts on activities.

went to celbrate my 50th birthday and get away from the cold but I guess i should have gone southwest and not south. i did the duval crawl booze walk it was ok but I over did it and made the next day leaving rough. i wanted to fish but the weather did not cooperate. i planned on cooking my catch on the outdoor grill but windy and cold, didn't go. was going to partake in the hot tube but to cold. the hotel was very pleasant and comfortable. duval and such was to far to walk to but there are plenty of modes to get there. did the trolley tour but not untill the last day you actaully get two days for the same price better to do earlier. with three or four option available on site this would be a good place to have a few people to share the entire facility. looking forward to another trip back and do plan on staying here again.

Read and relax. Very quiet and enjoyable.

I'd never stay anywhere else unless I HAD to! True Island atmosphere. Have a sloppy joe and "sloppy rita"; peel & eat shrimp and a Loaded Landshark @ Margaritaville; take the sunset glass-bottom boat trip; shop not just on Duval, but the smaller shops off the beaten track; Butterfly House is unique. The whole experience of Key West is like nowhere else on earth. Best experienced if you aren't "normal"!!! I'm ready to go again as soon as I pack!

The outdoor area was very nice and relaxing with lush tropical plants surrounding the location and several patio areas that were very enjoyable. We stayed at the "Beach Bunaglow" which was a good size unit with a loft bedroom which had it's own private patio. The kitchen was small but accomidating since we mostly ate out. We also liked the fact that Smather's Beach was only one block away.Overall our stay was enjoyable and look forward to staying there again.

we couldn't even stay at the beach villas because the air conditioning did not work. we were unable to reach owner to fix the problem and had to spend half a day looking for another hotel to stay in because it was a holiday weekend. we ended up having to stay at 2 different hotels because none had a room for the 3 nights that we were down there for.i should have known that when you have to pick your hotel key up at a"ticket booth" there was a potential for trouble. the owner finally returned my call after leaving 4 messages at 10pm at night and was very rude he told me that he wouldn't refund my money and he would get the air conditioning fixed the next day. long story short i DO NOT recommend this hotel! it was a terrible experience and ruined our vacation.

The Beach Villas were a great way to experience Key West for the first time. It has a great semi-private patio (it is shared with the occupants in the back unit, whom we never saw). The home is located across the street from a lightly used beach along a nature preserve, and along a major biking trail along Atlantic Blvd. You can get to Duval Street and other popular spots on those bikes within 10-15 minutes, saving you the hassle of finding and paying for car parking. There's also a hot tub on the patio, but we didn't use it. The rooms could use a little more light, but we didn't spend enough time in them to care that much. We would stay there again!

What a great find! If you want to be in walking distance of Duval, then you might reconsider. But the drive by bike, scooter or car is very easy and the location is in walking distance of Smathers Beach! The "suite" is comfortable, clean and feels like home away from home. It includes a family room, a spacious bathroom and a kitchenette in the bedroom. The bed was very comfortable, with soft sheets and good pillows. Easy to control the temperature with a wall AC unit in the bedroom, which keeps you nice and cool at night. The area is quiet, which is great. No noise whatsoever. The patio outside the suite is spacious & covered, with really kitchy, cute patio decor & furniture and a ceiling fan. And of course, the hot tub! Would highly recommend the Beach Villas to anyone wanting to get away- you must do cozy & kitchy in Key West, and this definitely hits the spot! The owner of the property is also very nice and easy to work with. Two thumbs way up!

This is a great place. We have stayed at many places in Key West and this is the best of them all. Clean, comfortable, quiet and it's not a hotel - it's like a home. Smathers Beach is a short walk and Salute' is a great restaurant on the beach - also within walking distance.
