We traveled across France and Italy over 4 weeks in Winter (December January) and have stayed in a number of managed apartments, four and five star hotels in a number of cities. We stayed at the La Farina Apartments in Florence for 9 nights (10 days) as the plan was to use it as a base in Florence. This review picks up the pluses and minuses so that travelers can make intelligent trade-offs on what is important to them. First the pluses: This is a nice spacious tidy apartment complex. Some of the fittings while dated, are in very good condition. We stayed on the 4th floor. Room 401. 1) The room had a comfortable king bed, with a clean mattress and linen, a modern oven and range (there are no oven dishes so you cant really warm anything up in the oven). The pots pans, cutlery crockery are new and in excellent condition. A toaster would have been useful. . 2) There are heat pumps in the bedroom and the main lounge that worked well in winter. 3) The hotel is located in easy taxi reach of central Florence (15 mins). The railway station is about 10 minutes walk . There is a small supermarket for your urgent needs about 10 mins walk away and a large supermarket ESSELUNGA About 900 meters walk from the apartment. 4) The desk is manned between 7 am and 7 pm and there is an emergency line to contact Ricardo at night. The staff are absolutely outstanding. Vitali is an art student who knows almost everything there is to know on art in Florence. Ricardo knows most of the great restaurants to eat at without paying a fortune. Simone the Danish manager runs the show and is always helpful. The strongest plus point is the staff of this hotel who are a credit to the hotel and to Florence as a city. 4) As a managed apartment for tourists it ticks all the boxes - great location, great ambiance. great staff and great service. The minuses This apartment complex has without doubt the worst WIFI and internet connectivity in Italy. It is impossible to use the internet even though they claim that there is a WIFI broadcaster on each floor. It can take up to 10 minutes to open a page on Google (if at all) as the WIFI is shared in a zero sum game based on presumably whoever comes first gets to hog the bandwidth. Or I suspect, there is no bandwidth to speak off. Even in the days of dial up connectivity we had faster internet services than in this apartment complex. Trying to use the apartment as a base for 10 days ended up as a nightmare as we were not able to buy tickets on line. research what we wanted to visit, or even read the news. Watching a movie late night was a torture. This apartment is located away from the tourist areas. Most of the restaurants around are some distance away (1 km). There are few tourists other than the residents of La Farina. This can be a challenge. There is only one place to eat (a restaurant called DONFEFE nearby) which is heavily booked and consequently their staff don't take too kindly to visitors who are not Italian. or don't speak Italian. For tourists seeking to spend one night and for whom the internet and communications are not a major, this is a good place to stay. For tourists like us seeking to spend time to Florence this would be a great location but for the fact that you have to contend with poor communications. You might like to get Simone to make sure you get a table at the restaurant DONFEFE. For the owners of this hotel I have this suggestion. You have a great location, a tidy apartment complex and most importantly some of the best staff I have seen across Italy. We live in the 21st century where internet connectivity for communications, research and even entertainment is critical. Every single apartment and every single hotel we stayed in France and across Italy provided its customers with fast internet. we had the same experience in Dubai and Singapore, Malaysia. Australia on our way back to NZ. This poor review is an 'own goal' that should not have happened. You might like to invest in a proper internet facility and oven dishes and a toaster while you are about it. But for these limitations this hotel should have earned five stars.
Visited Florence in May for a long weekend and found this nice place to stay. Walking distance from central Florence and main landmarks and located above Don Fefe, one of the best pizza restaurants of Florence. Apartments nicely decorated with spacious living and reasonably priced. Recommended.
I arrived at this place late afternoon and welcomed by Ricardo who gave me an overview of the local places to visit and local amenities. I went to this place with my 8 month old and 4 year old and it was the perfect place for family. It was clean, modern and safe for my family and I have no issues whatsoever. Staying here made me feel at home and not your typical rushed feeing you get in hotels. The location was also perfect and easy to get to places by foot or bus. The manager allowed me a late checkout because I had kids who needed feeding at the times of checkout. The only thing I must warn parent who take pushchairs is that the lift is slightly narrow and I took an Icandy Cherry pushchair and I just managed to squeeze it through by pushing the lift doors. Narrow lifts are common in Italy I found so this is no way a reflection on this place. But the place is quiet and calm away from the hustle bustle. If you have a family then this place is definitely for you. I searched other places around Florence and nothing was quite like this, typically they are all medieval type and cold feeling. This is modern and has all the amenities required for example with kids you need to instantly make them some milk, food or whatever they need.
We've been here jaust one nigh but it was superb. Nice, new, clean, equipped for cooking. Ideal for couples on holiday. Very kind approach from stuff, they show us on the map historical monuments and explain us what to see. Just superb.
Can’t fault these apartments. They are 20 mins walk to the City Centre but they are spacious, have dishwasher, fridge/freezer and loads of storage space. Staff can’t do enough for you - restaurants nearby especially the fantastic Don Fefe next door. What more do you need!!
This was a wonderful apartment in Florence. Very clean. Stayed in the 2nd floor. The bathroom was well kept and spacious. Upstairs residents were a bit noisy though with their heavy feet, but otherwise got a good night's sleep every night. Parking was available underneath the complex, but we barely used the car because many attractions were walking distance plus there is a bus stop around the corner. What was outstanding was upon check in staff was very helpful with planning the sight seeing as it was our first time in Florence. Wi-Fi was also available. Would happily recommend the place for long stays in Florence for a self service apartment that feels like a home.
Stayed here for 3 nights in a lovely 1 bed apartment. Apartment was very clean, spacious and with all the mod cons you would expect....oven, microwave, fridge...massive double bed and a walk in wardrobe. Very few downfalls only we are across from a fire station which is very noisy at night and wifi is very poor kept dropping. Service is excellent from reception area and secure parking is available free on site which is a huge plus. Will definitively stay here again.
These apartments are really nice very well maintained, modern & Only 15 minute walk to the city center or €12-€15 in a taxi. The apartment we stayed in was very clean, spacious & really nice overall. Staff are also very nice and welcoming even brought up extra toileteries because i was sick and helped with locating a doctor to go to. Only downfall we had was the noise as we faced the road there is a firebrigade station across the way that woke you up at 6am or so most mornings leaving the station & the resturant below was also very noisy till late at night. This apartment would go very well though for couples looking to stay close to the city center or families. There is also free car parking! Overall we will book here again the next time we come to florence!
This is a really nice place, which I recommend with no reservations. Well, maybe one. You will like the apartments. They are spotlessly clean, nicely- decorated, spacious and airy. You will also like the staff, who are great. The lady on the front desk – whose name is Simone – was marvellously helpful when I one day stupidly dropped my passport on the pavement. She phoned around police stations and embassies and managed to retrieve it for me. I owe her my present state of comparative sanity. The rest of the staff are also great and even gave my wife and me a quick demonstration in using the unfamiliar style of hob they had there. Oh, and they also opened the safe when I accidentally locked something in it and couldn’t get it back out. (I realise I am coming across in this story like the world’s most incompetent person. What can I say? If you are equally incompetent, you’ll be glad to have arrived amongst so many helpful and grown-up people.) The one reservation I have – and I see a lot of guests have pointed this out – is that La Farina is some distance from the city-centre. It’s a 15-20 minute walk, I’d say, depending on the temperature, and pleasant –enough, but it is a hassle. You won’t be just nipping back home for a quick shower. That is a definite disadvantage. (I see, though, that some reviewers have said they did not feel comfortable walking through the area. I can’t see that – it’s perfectly nice and really rather a comfortable area. No worries there.) This one thing aside, I really can’t recommend this fine place enough. We’ll stay there again, next time we’re in Florence, if only because no one else the people here can fix stuff like proper adults.
Visited La Farina Apartment with our 1 year baby in beginning of July, 2017. The apartments are well maintained with nice kitchen facility. We have asked for a crib and the staff had already install it in the room when we arrived. Florence is very hot at this period and the conditioned air was efficient, not a detail when it comes to sleep with 40 deg... The neighbourhood is calm and quite. Very good italian restaurant at the door next. The staff at the reception, Simone and Ricardo are very helpful and friendly .. The major place of the Duomo is 15 mn walking. Overall a very nice and pleasant experience
