Hotel Medici2.0 out of 5.0

There is loads of work going on inside and outside the hotel so we were moved to their sister hotel Constantini around the corner. I will write my review under that hotel, however, if you have a booking with the Medici I would contact them in advance and check where you will be staying.
I’d read all the reviews before staying here and was a little worried. A quick breakdown: Pros -So well located, couldn’t get any closer to the Duomo! -it’s cheap -good bathroom Cons -So so loud. Single glazed windows makes it sound like you’re sleeping in the street. Lots of construction works happening. For the lack of sleep alone I’d advise to avoid this hotel. -Staff at check in barely looked at us. Felt like an inconvenience us being there. Fine on check out (when I was paying). -No ‘do not disturb sign’. I had an awkward convo with the cleaner (who was lovely) as neither of us spoke the same language fluently. Would definitely not stay here again but it’s also not the worst place I’ve ever stayed in!
This pensionne has a fantastic location in Firenze with loads of character without the charm. The hotel is under renovation. No roof terrace available. No WiFi or TV in the rooms. Nowhere to hang towels to dry or put shampoo in the shower. Lift very handy to all levels. No kettle in room. The shower in our newly rennovated room was fantastic with best water pressure in Italy. View of building site. To ease disappointment, find a great rich hot choc next door at cafe. Take earplugs, sleeping bag and warm clothing to sleep well. Heater not on until 7pm and room seemingly not at all insulated. Noisey as! We paid 75 euro a night for a triple room and paid far too much on Booking.com. This place has character and challenged my mislead expectations via idyllic images provided by hotel on Booking.com. Staff very pleasant on check in but not flexible when complaints are made.
The hotel is 2 stars and it is what it is. It smells old in the stairways, but the room was nice and clean and so was the bathroom. There is no AC, if you visit in summer you have to leave the windows open and it is VERY noisy, due to the very central location. Bring earplugs. The staff is indifferent and at times impolite. But the location is excellent, it is 1 minute away from the Dome and 5 minutes from Uffizi. It is difficult to come by car, you have to drive through limited driving zone, make sure you know your way or call the front desk for instructions before getting in Florence.
Hotel not so easy to find sign very high almost invisible in the light. Florence 2 degrees and no heating until 7pm so wear a coat or get into bed to keep warm. Delights of a very small breakfast, machine coffee basket of rolls etc almost thrown on the table. no morning greeting from the staff. Wifi only only works on the 1st floor trouble at times to connect. Advantage Duomo very close so much so when the bells ring at 6, 7 and 8 in the morning you need to try and go back to sleep.
If you can get a night stay here cheap u wont be disappointed....location awesome and clean....staff are wonderful and helpful...NOT for the 5start person but if you are travelling on a budget and need somewhere to lay your head for the night is clean and quiet you cant go wrong....i ended up in an apartment 3 minutes away from hotel and was happy overall ....good nights sleep in a great location for cheap
I had booked a single room, courtyard view, A/C and roof terrace - lovely picture - fantastic location. Upon check-in I was told I had to walk for 10 mins. as I would have a studio with A/C ....... - the building didn't have A/C ..... So - 4 keys, 6 mins. walk on, found the studio, not nice, top floor, no views, no roof terrace, - luckily A/C and a nice bathroom. Breakfast was served in the main building, - sticky & hot, - the jams were OK, the coffee; I've had it worse. The whole place was just sooo run-down; dirty carpets, stripe of dust on all walls, - VERY much up for a total refurbishment.
Where to start! We arrived by motorbike so the hotel drew us a map for the nearest carpark. The map sent us the wrong way down a one way street, not a good start. After unloading all our heavy luggage at the hotel and putting the bike in a garage we were informed we would be staying in an apartment 0.7km away, would have been good to know this before we unloaded, especially as they sat and watched us! Another mindblowingly poor map (staff seriously need some map reading lessons) was drawn that had us walking across the centre in +35c heat in full bike gear only for the map to take us to the wrong place. Patience was wearing seriously thin at this point. Called and asked for someone to come show us the correct way but they never appeared. Eventually found the apartment by blind luck. Shower had no door so after 0.37 seconds of showering the floor was approximately a foot deep in water. Breakfast was just a bowl of crappy bread. Informed them my wife cant eat bread and they just shrugged. To think i paid good money for this experience. Please don't stay here!
Bit of an '80s backpacker feel to the place. Excellent location - close to The Savoy no less.... and 2 mins walk to Il Duomo. However, we didn't see the hotel rooms as we were given a 2 bed large loft apartment (we were 2 adults, 1 kid) some 5 mins walk away at another property. Comfy beds - very quiet and peaceful. No windows in the loft apartment, No windows (to look out of) in loft apartment. Fridge and cooker didn't work (no electric). Good view from the top terrace of the actual hotel. However, whilst the 'excellent view' was mentioned to us for when we came back for breakfast at 0730, it was locked till 0800 (which we found after traipsing to the top floor). Breakfast was pretty poor (at the hotel). Overall, excellent location and therefore adequate value, but that's all.
Location: Very good, near to the big cathedral of florence Room: Poor, very bad toilet and shower. Air conditioner: None which is not acceptable Tv: None, also not acceptable. Breakfast: Poor. I advise to take it outside
