My partner and I have really really enjoyed this hotel and would like others to do so too. When my partner and I first arrived we were very disappointed with what we found. We're first given a room on the fourth floor where the bed was broken and the shower was literally over the toilet. We were then offered a room on the third floor that was just...not good. We were very unhappy and asked to be moved one more time before we look elsewhere. Finally, we were moved to a room on the second floor. This room was basic, but clean and fresh with a new floor and a new bathroom suite. It was perfect. We were later informed that the hotel is currently in the process of updating all of its rooms and has grand plans for the terrace and the breakfast rooms. Therefore, if you visit, request to be be put on second floor. Now the best bit. The terrace on the roof. It is spectacular. My partner and I have enjoyed a number of meals on this terrace while simultaneously staring in awe at the Florence skyline and the beautiful cathedral of Florence. I cannot recommend this view more, it's perfect with a bottle of wine! To be clear, there is no restaurant just some tables where you can enjoy your own food and drink (carre four supermarket in Via Dante Alighieri is great for this). My partner and I would recommend this place and are looking forward to return in a few years to see the finished product.
Such a friendly relaxed hotel. Very clean, good service including room service with really friendly staff. Lovely breakfast with a good variety and choice in a lovely light open room. The hotel is in a perfect position, out of the busy areas and close to the river walk.
This hotel was very well priced for what it was. The rooms aren't exactly 3 star but the view from the terrace is incredible. There is a perfect view of the duomo. We wanted to stay somewhere that had a local feel - you can't beat this!
Having read previous reviews I came very close to cancelling and booking elsewhere. This hotel is in THE perfect location, 10 minutes at the most from the train/bus station, the majority of tourist sites a few minutes to the left or right of the hotel. On a city trip are you really going to spend a lot of time in your hotel room ? It's a base, the Medici provides clean bedding and a hot shower. We stayed in room 402, radiators lovely and warm, clean bedding, small en suite, some external noise but Florence isn't a 24 hour city and our sleep wasn't disturbed. Breakfast was very basic but we paid £105 for two people for 3 nights, so what do you really expect ! The hotel is being refurbished and having had a sneak peek at the rooms on the second floor, which are close to completion, I would imagine the prices will go through the roof ! If you are happy to book a hotel which is in the perfect location at a VERY reasonable price with clean bedding and a hot shower.... book NOW - once the refurbishment is complete..........................I would think it's going to be pretty expensive
avoid this hotel at all costs! although the location is good the continental breakfast is a single bread rool and a pack of biscuits. the toilet and the shower are in the same tray (when you turn on the shower the toilet gets soaked). the rooms are dusty and not clean and the hotel is dirtier than a pig pen. pay the bit extra and go to a clean hotel where there is no hair in your bed, tv and kettle in room, nice food and polite staff. rubbish unsafe hotel as stairs (only fire exit) where blocked.
1. Minimal heating in plain winter, rooms not insulated 2. Photos are 100% misleading, they do not represent the real situation 3. "Breakfast" was made up of biscuits in packets and a coffee 4. No wifi in the rooms, only at the tiny lobby with two chairs 5. Foul smell in the common areas 6. Decaying walls, the bathroom was recently built (seems as rooms didn't have one before). 7. "Shower" was not separated so when used, everything in the bathroom would get wet 8. Small drip of hot water 9. Dirty and dusty Didn't even qualify to be a 2 star. No way.
Hotel seriously needs a lick of paint there is damp in the rooms in the hallways and the stairwells there is no kettles or televisions in the rooms breakfast is included in the price and you would expect at least a continental with fruit yoghurt pastries instead all you get is a basket with a couple of bread rolls in some French toast butter and jam the rolls aren't very fresh and the French toast is rock hard we had to spend money eating out the towels in the bathroom are like cotton tablecloths nothing towelling about them the only good thing about the place is its central location but there are plenty of other small hotels with just as good location would never stay here again.
Like the title says: I came, I saw and I ran away. I've booked another hotel, but they transferred me to this hotel. But once I saw the dirty, filthy room I've turned around and left. I expected a clean hotel room, while the room I was offered looked like a hostel, just 3 beds, window, door and tiny shower. I guess that for the right price it would be appealing for young travelers that choose a good location on the expense of comfort and cleanliness.
I can't fault the Hotel Medici for the price we paid for a week's stay: the location is unbeatable being just around the corner from Florence's cathedral which is in the heart of the city. Being an older, solidly built hotel there is very little noise from guests coming and going. Breakfast is quite basic but adequate to get the day off to a start: fruit juice and beverages from a machine, 2 bread rolls with butter/jam + a small packet of French toast + 2 biscuits served by the waitress. The breakfast room is on the 3rd floor and this is where Wi-Fi is available. The top 6th floor has very good views and an unforgettable one of the cathedral. The décor does need updating and then I would imagine you would be paying a good deal more for the privilege of the location. We found the staff very friendly and would stay here again for the location alone. One can only despair of reviewers who choose to stay in budget hotels and then expect the earth.
This is a worth a read- just trying to warn fellow travellers. My husband and I were booked by a travel agent and we hadn't looked up this particular hotel prior to arriving in Florence- our first mistake. This was by far THE WORST hotel I've ever stayed in. This is worse than the cheapest backpackers hostel that you could imagine. First of all, the lady at reception was incredibly rude and was on the phone the whole time we were trying to check in (clearly a personal call). We were a couple hours early before check-in time so we asked if we could store our bags there. She instructed us to just "leave your bags on the first floor"- not secure, just a common area for all guests and the only place the wifi works. When we finally got to our room, it was the stuff of nightmares. The shower was over the toilet (which is normal for some parts of Europe but the entire bathroom was the size of a pubic toilet). The drain on the floor smelled like it was backing up- smelled like raw sewage or a dead animal, which you could smell even when the door was closed as the door was peeling at the bottom from water damage. The room was in disgusting shape. Look out for bugs. It was horrifying. We went back to the lobby and found an older gentleman at the desk and let him know of our concerns, to which he responded "I know". So not only is this a horrible hotel, they seem to not even care. There were no other rooms available (shocking) and he sent us to an apartment across town which was not much better. All in all, it left a really bad impression of Florence. Horrible experience.
