The location is excellent. The breakfast included with the room was great. The hotel staffs were very helpful with the sights and travel time. Service itself was great. Room very small. Too much old furniture in the hallways. If you are on the 4th floor, you have to carrier our own bags. If you are a senior that is challenging, to climb up two sets of stairs with your luggage. The hot water on demand need to be updated. I ended up taking a partial old shower. Much to my suprise! The Maxim was not the only hotel in this building. Interesting.
Stayed here with two friends for 10 days. From the first moment we walked in we noticed a musty, damp smell that never ever left. The bathroom was a wet room style that never dried completely and as a result the ceiling was covered in a black mold that visibly grew during our stay. The bedroom itself was a good size but under the window by my bed you could see further mold growing that looked like someone had tried to paint over it. A few days into the stay we all started to get unwell with colds, coughs and congestion etc, which all happen to be symptoms of black mold exposure. The only redeeming features of this hotel was the breakfast (including a very good pancake maker and fresh fruit) and the location of the hotel on the main shopping street (and next to a very nice Venchi).
I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and generally I was happy. The room was shabby (I must be honest), its paint work and decor well in need of upgrading. So if you're looking for something bright, fresh and modern, look elsewhere. The room isn't soundproofed so any noise (loud locals on the streets and courtyard below, other guests in their rooms) is as clear as the Duomo bells (which I think ring at 7am!). The shower wasn't too powerful either. Ok, the negatives are building up… so on the positive front, the location is brilliant; right around the corner from the Duomo and the Palazzo Vecchio. I found the bed nice and comfortable, and aside from some of the noise I mentioned, I slept very well. The staff are very nice, friendly and helpful. The hotel itself has a nice old fashioned Italianate feel to it (its reception is awash with colour and welcoming character), it's up a few flights of stairs off the street that is bustling with locals and tourists going in and out of clothes shops and gelateria. It's a perfect spot to stay if you need somewhere cheap and convenient for a night or two while you explore the centre of Florence. I would give it 3 and a half stars on here if I could.
Superb location and the reception staff were lovely, however the room wasnt. The showers were cold and some of our plug points didn't work. Breakfast was ok. Altogether apart from the location it was overpriced for the stamdard of stay we received
We stayed in the hotel only one night, so if you are looking hotel in the centre for one/two nights hotel maxim is right choose. Hotel has parking, but it is not included in the room rate. Room was big, but we have very small bathroom and not very clean. Breakfast was ok.
We reluctantly stayed one night here after I had already found a better hotel. Location good but that is all that is good about this hotel. It is very very old and uncomfortable and dark. Th rooms have the bare minimum in them with hard beds. Not much of a breakfast either. I found a hidden gem in the perfect location for our second night in Florence. There are far better hotels in Florence for same price or a little more.
I was not pleased with my 3 night stay at this hotel. The air conditioner in my small single room didn't function properly and never cooled the room. Reporting this daily to the front desk still did not resolve the problem. Also, the bathroom did not have an enclosed shower. So, the bathroom floor being wet after bathing was a nuisance. Overall, the hotel entrance and hallways appeared shabby. One positive was that the hotel was centrally located. This turned into a negative, though, when opening the window due to insufficient air conditioning resulted in a lot of street noise. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
we stay here for 3 nights in July on the 2nd city of our 2 week trip . Location is the best thing of this hotel. our bed and bathroom was clean but unfortunately that is all that was good . It seems to be receiving a lack of regular maintenance overall which is leading to a lot of bad reviews. the air conditioner broke on our 3rd day and no replacement room was offered , we were leaving the next morning and decided to go out and enjoy the most beautiful city of our whole trip instead . they did give us some towels to cover the TV as it the AC unit was leaking all over it and we advised the front desk not to blame us if the Tv was ruined because of it. breakfast was a typical basic assortment that never changed all 3 days but it was good . front desk workers were all polite and very nice .
The hotel was in the centre of town with all attractions within walking distance. The train station was also only about 10-15 minutes walk away. We booked with jet2 and by no stretch of the imagination is it 4 star as advertised on their website. I'd say 2/3 at best, however for the price we paid it was very good. The hotel don't advertise themselves as 4* so neither should jet2! The building was old and definitely quirky. The lift was small but we only used it twice, when we arrived and left with our cases. The room was adequate! It was a decent enough size although it could have done with a bit more storage space. There were only two tiny drawers. We stayed three nights so it was ok for us as we didn't have loads of luggage. The room was cleaned every day and fresh towels left. The bathroom was quite narrow with the bath being at the bottom of the room. Elderly or less mobile people would struggle getting in and out of it. The plumbing wasn't great but we managed and were able to shower adequately several times a day. The air con worked ok which was great as it was very hot! The room also had a small fridge. Breakfast was the usual continental fare. There wasn't a great selection but you wouldn't go hungry. The staff were pleasant and helpful and always had a smile for you. All in all it's a great little hotel and we would go back!
Horrible place to stay. Stay away AT ALL COSTS! Please trust me. We, a family of four, had stayed there for 3 nights two weeks ago. Looking at the pictures online got us excited for the hotel. Nope! The pictures are nothing like the rooms itself. We walk into the room, which is the average size of an american bedroom. 4 single beds which look quite old and undesirable. Walls are incredibly thin. Two of the nights we were there, they were loading and unloading trucks of supplies for the stores nearby in the middle of the night and early morning. In other words, good luck sleeping if you're a light sleeper! We didn't trust the staff enough to leave anything in the safe. If you do end up here, keep your passports, valuables, etc. with you. It's safer that way. Now, the worst part: the bathroom. Oh, gosh. Where do I start. It is this long, narrow bathroom. You walk in, and to your right is a sink. You go a little further and you have your toilet and the washer thing next to it. In front of the toilet, there is one of those toilet paper dispensers - it's like this big, giant, round thing with a huge roll of toilet paper inside. The ground was this blue tile that seemed disgusting to walk on barefoot. We always laid towels on the ground to be safe. Next, the shower. First of all, there was MOLD on the bottom of the curtains. It feels like it hadn't been cleaned in decades. Also, the bath tub may appear pretty large, but it is exactly the opposite. The ground by the drain is flat, but it has a very small area. So unless you are a teenage or young girl, your feet will likely end up slanted on the slope. You have to have very small feet in order to be able to stand flat in the bathtub. If not, you'll be balancing yourself like a circus performer. Usually, when you walk out of showers, you are supposed to feel fresh. Here, I felt dirtier than I did before I washed myself. Okay and also, the blow dryer was insane. The blow dryer literally looked like Noo-Noo's nose (from teletubbies. If you don't know what I'm talking about, search "Noo-noo teletubbies). Who knows what would have come out of it if we turned it on. Probably living spiders. Wifi was also terrible. Would keep on disconnecting. Breakfast was also disgusting. Everything seemed stale and old. Very very little variety. Only good thing about here was the friendly staff and location. Overall, this hotel is nowhere near worth the price. I would not stay here again if it was offered to me for free.
