we booked this hotel for its great location. it was not difficult to find and there were a lot of chinese shops nearby. the receptionist was chinese too so it was easier to communicate and they were very helpful and nice!! we went to the chinese resturants and chinese convenient store nearby and we got what we needed. the area is safe since there were many people. however, always beware of people walking nearby especially at your back!! they can unzip your backpack quickly and steal your belongings!! the area is safe to stay as long as you always look around to check. the room was spacious and cozy. it was quiet and the free wifi was stable. i did not enjoy the breakfast since i do not like pastries a lot. the location is the best thing since we can walk to different attractions from the hotel.
We had 4 nights at Hotel City. the hotel is very well located and has nice decorated room but we couldnt communicate much with the receptionist as his English is very limited. we wanted to be advised about the city tour and skip-the-line ticket for museum but the answer was not very clear. we ended up just with a smile from him. However, his attitude was absolutely positive and our stay was very enjoyable and pleasant.
Excellent location close to SMN station and all attractions. Basic rooms, as expected for price paid, but spotless and cleaned every day. Air-conditioned and quiet. Fantastic breakfast choice, always fresh. Very helpful staff at reception which is manned 24 hours. Would not hesitate to book again.
We only spent one night in this charming hotel but I would have been happy to spend many more. The location is very convenient to the train station, the Central Market and other Florence attractions and it was very quiet at night. The AC worked like a dream and breakfast was delicious and included in the price. The room was very clean and the bathroom actually had a legit shower in it, which is hard to find in Europe (what is up with the hand-held shower heads?!!?). I would absolutely recommend this hotel!
The hotel cannot be reached by car, and the parking facility at which we had reserved a space was inaccessible. We parked about a 15 minute walk away and pulled our luggage through the leather market and narrow streets. The air conditioning was okay if we kept the bathroom door closed. Someone had smoked in the room, which we sprayed away, but it was annoying. We were the only non-Asians in the place, which seemed to be operated by Asians as well. The breakfast was outstanding! Note: there is a dispenser that reads "coffee cream" which is not hot coffee with cream/latte, but rather coffee ice cream (which was very tasty). The exit in the morning was smooth. The staff was friendly.
Poor air conditioning. We tried to leave the air on so the room would be cool, but it was always hot. It takes 2-3 hours to somewhat cool the room. A few times the air wasn't working when we came back. We went down to tell them the air isn't working and they'd turn on the circuit. When you leave, you hand in your key; when you come back your room is hot, so do they turn off the circuit when you're out and turn it on when you come back? If they are busy at the front desk the air is off when you get to your room and takes a couple of minutes to come on, until they have time to turn on the circuit. The room was ok. Bathroom was modern and clean. You only get shampoo and bar soap. Beds are really, really hard. If you need to iron the maid needs to take you to a room to iron. You are not allowed to iron in your room. Breakfast was great, from 7:30 to 10:00 am. Most staff were friendly. One morning we had an early tour and had to leave at 6:15 am. They let us in early for breakfast and gave us coffee, fruit, pastries and yogurt, it was greatly appreciated. When we checked out they let us leave our luggage while we went and had lunch. We had booked and prepaid for 3 nights, if we hadn't prepaid we would have looked for a hotel with better air and beds. If the weather's not too hot and you don't mind hard beds then this was an ok hotel. Hotel is in a great location. 5 minutes from train station. Close to many tourist sites.
The hotel is very small that comes with a lift that fits only 3 adults or 2 adults plus 2 big luggages. We got an attic room which was spacious with 2 tiny wooden windows which was beautiful and it makes it more beautiful when the bell was ringing from the nearby church. The bathroom was big and airy which doesn't trapped humidity. I would say the location was perfect where it takes about 7mins to walk to S.M. Novella train station and 10mins walk to The Duomo. You can find cafes and restaurants along the way which is very convenient and you can also find mini market to buy bottled water. The hotel staffs were friendly and helpful. They will recommend where to go and what to see based on their experience as a local. I would go back to the same hotel on my next trip to Florence.
We loved our stay at Hotel City. The reception staff are very helpful and the breakfast is amazing. They also offer eggs cooked to your liking which is a bonus from what I've found travelling and staying at other hotels. You must try the home made pastries. The location is perfect as it's walking distance from the train station and a lot of the tourist spots. There's tons of restaurants literally a stone throw away. The rooms are basic but comfortable. The only criticism I'd have is the hairdryer and air conditioning was terrible but I guess this is expected in a budget hotel. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone!!
I arrived very late to Firenze and needed a place for one night convenient to S.M. Novella train station for my departure to Lucca the next day! I had booked Hotel City after looking a some of the Trip Advisor and other reviews and I was not disappointed! Arriving well after midnight, I was warmly greeted by the night clerk who put my bags on the little elevator. The hotel is small and the rooms have such character with high ceilings, comfortable bed and nice bathroom. The street was quiet and I slept very well.In the morning I indulged in their fabulous breakfast buffet and coffee. There even was a notice that they would cook eggs upon request. It was charming through and through. When I had to leave for the station, the clerk gave me directions and it took no more than five or six minutes, even with pulling my luggage to arrive at the station! The nightly rate was far less that most others in the area and I would not hesitate to highly recommend Hotel City and would return there happily when traveling through Florence again!
It was a few years ago we stayed at Hotel City but we loved it. Not fancy but clean and comfortable. Our room was in the front of the hotel but we had no problem with street noises. We had no problems at all so did not need to confront staff for solutions. Check-in went smoothly and clerk was very helpful in offering literature for sight seeing. When I knew I was returning to Florence for an art excursion there was no question that Hotel City fit all my requirements, close to the train station, easy walk to city center and everywhere else that is a must see on my list. The breakfast was wonderful, plenty of meats, baked goods, cereal, yogurt and great coffee. A great way to start a day of adventures and seeing the amazing sights that Florence has to offer. Looking forward to submitting another review after another great stay. Ciao for now.
