For the money, this is a great choice. Five minute walk from train station--and since Florence is so compact--only another 5 min walk to see the David, the Duomo and other Florence sights. Plenty of shopping and nearby restaurants. Lovely breakfast. I'm traveling with my 16-yr-old nephew and have been staying in larger, more luxurious hotels, but I wanted something more quaint, old-school Europe or Florence. This fit the bill very well.
wonderful room with huge sumptuous bathroom.fabulous breakfast.great location near station and sites. Aircon worked well.Helpfull staff.Classic style decor inside hotel. All very tasteful. You could ask for no more from a hotel...excellent!!
The location is a short walk across from the station in an area with numerous Italian and a few Chinese restaurants. Plenty of supermarkets, gelato shops and a large central market which is similar to a food court serving delicious food. The room was decent size as well as the bathroom. The staff are helpful and kindly let us have breakfast before the official opening time - a nice gesture. The main sights are a ten minute walk from this hotel and most of Florence sightseeing is walkable distance. The tours start mainly from near the station which made it possible to be there on time after a brisk ten minute walk from the hotel. A lively area to spend the evening with market stalls nearby which set up early and then disappear at night - only to reappear the next morning. A good choice and an enjoyable 3 night stay.
This hotel is just minutes from the train station, and this hotel was built in the late 1500's. My room was very large, it had a very modern bath, with a towel warmer, tub and shower. I had a suite, as it was for 3 persons, so there was a separate bedroom that was quite spacious in it self. the bed's were very comfortable. Hotel staff was very helpful, they had a large breakfast selection. cold cuts, pastry, fruits, coffee. I would stay here again if I make it back to Florence
We stayed here for 2 nights last week with a family of four - parents and 2 college age kids. We rented 2 rooms and were very happy with them - clean, comfortable, nice size and all the amenities you need. The location was the best part - just a few blocks from the train station and all of the major sights in Florence as well as food and shopping (huge markets are right down the block). The hotel staff was pleasant and we enjoyed the breakfast and candies at the front desk. I know another reviewer complained about having to drop off the key at the front desk when they went out, but that is a custom we found in other European hotels in both Italy and Greece. My carry on luggage was stolen on the train heading into Florence and the desk attendant was very helpful in directing us to a supermarket and pharmacy so I could replace my toiletries. The hotel was also nice enough to hold our bags after we checked out so we could sightsee more before our train left. All in all we were happy with this hotel and would recommend it to others.
Stayed here for 3 nights & it was wonderful. Friendly staff, great location, great breakfast, comfortable bed, good air conditioning & a fantastic shower! Would definitely stay here again & would not hesitate to recommend it
The Hotel City in Florence is an awesome hotel. It is beautiful, with lovely staff and a fantastic location. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, manageable with luggage and is surrounded by restaurants, convenience stores and a laundromat. It is a short walk to the Duomo, and not much further on to the Ufitzi. The breakfast buffet offers a huge range and has to be seen to be believed. We cannot recommend this hotel more.
We felt we got our monies worth for room, location, and breakfast. The welcome was nice and we were able to check in a little early. The proximity to train and major sites made this a good choice and one we'll use on our next trip to Florence. Not much of a bar was the only major drawback seen.
Great Hotel Friendly Helpful Staff with excellent English Hotel is really quite bueatiful with a lot of attention to detail . I was very impressed with the how clean the room and the Hotel in general was. I chose this hotel based on location and was not disappointed I will difinatley return to this amazing city and would most certainly stay here again. The breakfast was superb and I enjoyed the caffe cream especially. The staff recommended some restuarants which were great value. Thank you Hotel City for making our stay so memorable.
Stayed here for 4 nights last week on our honeymoon. Overall we were very satisfied but there were a few problems that in my opinion the hotel needs to pay better attention to. Pros: 1) Location is fantastic - pretty much the best you can get at this price. We walked everywhere. Very close to the Duomo, Santa Croce, Galleria del Accademia etc. However it is not noisy, the street is small and not a lot of cars go by. 2) The hotel is not too crowded, the rooms are nice and clean, breakfast is great - hard-boiled eggs, cherry tomatoes, cheese, meat, even fresh strawberries (and whipped cream if you want it). They make you coffee at your request and you can ask for an omelette with no extra charge. I wasn't very impressed with the choice of bread but overall it was a very good breakfast. 3) The staff were nice and overall polite and helpful. 4) Wi-fi worked perfectly. As for the cons: 1) The bed was very very soft, too soft for me, I had backaches for several days later (and I do not usually suffer from those). It might be good for some people but not for me. 2) The walls between the rooms are extremely thin - the next room's bathroom was right next to our bedroom wall and we could hear EVERYTHING that went on in there... 3) They make you leave your key at reception every time you leave the hotel, then when you come back you must give them your room number and they just give it back to you, no questions asked - what if someone else just walked in and asked for the key? Not very safe. Also there's only one receptionist and they're sometimes busy with someone else, and it's annoying to wait for your key when all you want is to be allowed to go up to your room. 4) Finally, the morning receptionist was very nice and spoke perfect English, but not only did the night receptionist barely speak any English, he also kept leaving the desk and locking the automatic entrance doors, so we got stuck outside and had to knock for several minutes before he came back.
