I found this a fiarly ordinary large hotel. It doesn't really give the feel of a 4-star hotel (e.g. room size wasn't great) but everything was there and worked so I shan't complain. But do beware of other reviewers' warnings about the midges. They got in our room and bit us. Keep the windows tight shut. I liked the location - less than half a mile from Santa Croce, the nearest major tourist attraction. If it takes more than 10 minutes walking it's because of waiting for the green men on the road crossings near the hotel.
On our tour of Tuscany with Riviera Holidays we stayed for 3 nights. The hotel is about 10 - 15 minutes level walk to the centre. The room was small but adequate. The shower was square and too small to bend down or towel off comfortably. We found it strange that apart from a wardrobe there were no drawers. The WiFi was free and good. As our tours started early we had breakfast at 7 a.m. at which time it was extremely busy and difficult to find room on a table. The breakfast selection was good. Opposite the hotel on the river bank is a very good self service bar with tables - the beer was cheap and there are trees for shade but also views of the river. We did not dine at the hotel but each evening turned right out of the hotel and then right again - after a couple of hundred yards there is a very good restaurant called Enjoy where the food is excellent and not expensive. For a an aerial view of Florence cross the river opposite the hotel and a steep 20 minute walk will bring you to the Piazzale Michelangiolo or you can get there on a No 13 bus - the hotel sells bus tickets which cost 1€ and they give unlimited travel for 1 hour. If there is one place in Florence not to miss it is the Basilica Di Santa Croce - 16 chapels and stunning tombs including Michelangelo, Galilio and Machiavelli
The hotel is nice our room was good it had a bath tub and a separate shower (this is not very big) some of the group were complaining of how small the shower was. The beds were comfortable. The air conditioning was not turned on yet. Coffee in the room .. We weren't there very long 2 nights stay. A walk to town is about 20- 30 min . I didn't notice a lot of restaurants but I wasn't there looking for them ours were planned. The hotel dinner was not very good and very limited selection, also they had a hard time keeping up with the groups that came in to be fed..The rooms are clean a small fridge ..
This hotel was clean, with a nice bathroom (aside from the half sized shower door) and a good breakfast and restaurant. However, the hotel is a good 12-15 minute walk from the main area of Florence, which really affects a person's ability to just step out for a meal. There are no restaurants or shops close by (except for the one in the hotel, which does have good food). There is free wi-fi, a safe in the room, and no a/c. On the good tip, the distance from the main area meant that the area around the hotel was quiet. Also, its right on the Arno river, which is really pretty. It's also close to a police station, so it's fairly safe (seems like it anyway).
We were dubious about staying here given some of the reviews. Yes, it caters to large coach parties however the refurbished room we had was quiet, mosquito free, had good air conditioning and spotless. The bathroom was great. The service was good, in particular the front desk with offers to look after our luggage on both arrival and departure. The service in the bar was excellent also. The only strange thing was there were no irons or ironing boards available. The only option was to use the hotel laundry service. Breakfast was average. The hotel is in a good location.
No hand towels in bathroom, the desk didn't have a proper electric adapter, the help with a cart cut ahead of us to get into an elevator that barely would fit two thin people. The restaurant staff clearly did not want to be there. If you can avoid this hotel do so.
Stayed with a tour group and it's okay. Breakfast is in a few rooms some catering to tour groups only. What they offer for breakfast is good and meets all diets including gluten free. Room had minimal toiletries and no body lotion. The rooms are clean but no air conditioner so you are forced to open the window and may have a room n in with mosquitoes. Restaurant and room service are good. The price of refrigerator snacks are reasonable in price. Location to shopping is wonderful you definitely don't need to go downtown. It's also a reasonable walk to tourist attractions. Elevators are small a Europe standard so use the stairs or wait. Wifi is free good and reliable but no password so it can run slow or not work hence my average rating.
The lobby was very attractive and well air conditioned. Rooms were small difficult with more than one travel suitcase. The worst was the mosquito problem, other guest complained as well.. Rooms were very warm. The showestall would not accommodate a larger sized person. I am average size and felt the space was smaller than other European accommodation s. The desk clerks were not friendly, when I asked if they could mail a postcard which had a stamp I was told to go to the city center. All previous hotels 5 at that point ,took the card graciously. I would find another place to stay,
Not enough can be said about being in Florence! It was a decent night's stay at the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo in Florence. We didn't spend much time in the room, as our tour kept us hopping, but that was fine. The room itself was not very spacious. It was cozy and clean, but essentially had a computer monitor for a TV set. We had two single beds pushed together, which we found to be rather humorous. Just the same, it was only one night, a good place to sleep, breakfast included...all in all, a decent enough hotel.
My wife and I were booked on a tour of Tuscany. We spent three nights at this hotel . It caters almost exclusively for large tour parties. On the plus side the American Bar was good but there are too many downsides and I would question the hotel star rating. Our room was sparten but we did have a recently refurbished bathroom. Our major concern is the same as many recent contributors. Our room was stuffy and hot as the air conditioning was off. We opened the window but we were badly bitten by the mosquitos from the nearby Arno River. Breakfast was adequate but lacked variety. On our final morning no tables had been reset ,and there was little cutlery. Finally when we settled our bill with reception we were simply told €51.No itemised bill was presented. All in all not a great experience.
