It was our third stay at the Fiordland Lodge after 2011, 2014 and 2017 The place is still fantastic, the rooms got new beds, still excellent food and still a very attentive staff around Andy On our next trip to New Zealand, we'll go there again for sure !!!
It's understandable why the Lord of the Rings cast stayed here whilst filming! This lodge is unique, with fires in rooms and beautiful communal spaces. In addition, the views from the large windows (almost wall sized) of the lodge are spectacular. The lodge is located in a rural area free of light pollutions affording mesmerising views of the night skies. The dining spaces are intimate, and food is incredible! Each meal we had a the lodge was deliciously memorable. Staff are very friendly and happy to also help with booking local attractions. We loved it so much that we wanted to extend our trip for an extra day but the owner planned to close the hotel to treat all of the staff to a well deserved day off!
This property was a highlight on our recent 10 day driving holiday to NZ. Stunning timber building Lodge located with wonderful views over lake Te Anau. Exceptional friendly staff which included some of the best quality food for dinner and breakfast while in NZ. Nothing was a problem and we felt totally at home with all the little touches like bottles of water in car when leaving . We loved this property and the people that run it .
We stayed at Fiordland Lodge recently for part of our honeymoon. We stayed 3 nights but wished we had booked to stay longer! The team upgraded us to an upstairs room due to it being our honeymoon. The place has a lot of charm and understated luxury. It isn't cheap to stay there but there was no pretentiousness at all, everyone staying there and the staff were all fantastic and very down to earth which we loved. Andy the manager was super helpful and we enjoyed chatting to him. Breakfast was delicious and hearty, and the dinners were as good as any high level restaurant in Auckland. With meals included we consider the accommodation to be good value. The wine selection is also fantastic, with many of the wines mirroring our own cellar. We had a nice bottle of Coleraine with our dinner one night and really enjoyed it. They do drinks and canapés in the evening before dinner which we loved. There is a massive fire to sit in front of and lots of comfy sofas and nooks to sit in and read a book. The location is very convenient, just outside of Te Anau on the way to Milford Sound. We went to Milford Sound one day and did a Mitre Peak cruise and a trip with Milford Helicopters (both recommended). The Lodge has a helicopter company on site and they can organise this as well. We preferred to self drive and arrange but got the packed lunch one day which was yummy and very extensive. The next day we drove back out towards Milford and did the Lake Marian trek which is challenging but well worth it. Really enjoyed staying here and will definitely be back the first chance we get! The only thing we missed was having a bathtub or (even better) a hot tub. But it may be due to water restrictions. If you stay here you certainly won't regret it! Thanks for an amazing stay
We have stayed in some special accommodation before now Fiordland Lodge is in league of its own. We were upgraded on arrival to a suite what treat. Pre paid breakfast and dinner a la carte great menu and fine wine selection. I haven't mentioned the view from the rooms "spectacular"
Spent 2 nights in this high end lodge near the Milford and Doubtful Sounds. Exceptional building, using local natural materials and set in very natural and sympathetically designed grounds. Fine views, quiet places to sit and enjoy them. Very comfortable accommodation, exceptionally good food, highly professional service. Not cheap, but nice touches such as canapés and a free drink before dinner, mainly free minibar in room. Wonderful memories from a quite exceptional place
After a long day exploring the often wet and chilly (but still beautiful) Milford Sound, returning to the The Fiordland Lodge is a welcome relief. The accommodations are very comfortable, while the soaring great room offers wonderful views of the lake and mountains. Dinners are delicious, paired with excellent wines.
We stayed in a private cabin and it was wonderful, nice view, good bed and bath. Lots of other options available for travelers of all varieties. We stayed for 1 night but could have stayed for a week! Highly recommend!
We stayed in the lodge for 3 nights and we loved everything. The lodge has a gorgeous view over lake and mountains. The sunsets were amazing to watch from the restaurant while having a dinner. The service was just unbelievable and the meals were yummy. We enjoyed every meal we had at nights and cooked breakfast. One big thank you we would like to say again to Deni. She looked after us wery well and we felt like family to her not a random customer. She is an amazing lady with the big smile and always there when you need her. We really enjoyed our stay.
This beautiful lodge is located in a quiet place among meadows with sheep and deer. The lake Te Anau offer astonishing sights anytime during the day. We stayed in one of the cabins. Ideal for families and/or group of friends. Though the rooms looked very comfortable too. The restaurant offered a 5 stars menu and the staff were very kind and helpful. There's something I didn't like though. We booked a private guide for half day whom took us over an amazing part of the Kepler track. More than 800 NZD for a 4 hours excursión that we could have done by ourselves is kind of expensive. Steve was a very good guide, no complaining about him. But the concierge at the lodge could have warn us in advance.
