We stayed for 2 nights in the 1 bedroom budget accomodation, perfect for the travel to Milford sound. It was the cheapest accommodation we could find, so much was booked out. It was a good choice - away from all the other accomodation it was quiet and the hotels around us seemed to be packed with tourists and buses coming and going. It is older and as they say budget, the stove only seems to go flat out the fridge froze a few of our items and outside lights didn't work. The unit though was very clean had plenty of towels with the heated towel rack on, on arrival. Plenty of toiletries, tea, plunger coffee, hot chocolate fresh milk and cookies. Just a short walk from the lake. We enjoyed spending an afternoon evening walking around the lake and town, happy hour at the pub in the cinemas great beer on tap for $5.50. We thought this was a beautiful spot to stay the town has catered well for tourists without the feeling it is being trampled to death like Lake Tekapo felt.
Anchorage Motel apartments / Te Anau Good functional modern motel on the fringe of the Township. Te Anau is the jumping Point to Mitford Sound therefore in the season it is in demand and pricey its location on the lake makes it a good stop. Also it has a couple of good restaurants and cafes in town. I would recommend it as a one night stop.
We stayed here two nights, although the initial impression was that the hotel was dated, it is very clean, neat and tidy with quality doors and windows. The interior is very nice and well maintained, with heated floor in the bathroom, air conditioning, satellite TV. I would have no problems recommending this motel to anyone.
We were very impressed with our stay. Very clean & comfortable. Heated towel rack! Beds were great. Easy walk to the main street & shops. Nigel in reception was very helpful - organising a change in tour for us (much appreciated - the change was great!)
Took 2 bedrooms cottage. Nice and comfortable rooms with each room having own tv too. Decent place to spend few nights. Very near to city center; hardly 5 mins by car and famous te anau lake. Overall good place to live and well recommended
The rooms were very disappointing and in need of complete renovation. A very uncomfortable place with old beds and furniture the were clearly long past their sell by date. Tiny bathroom area and a general feeling of grubbiness all round.
We stayed here so that we could be closer for our drive to Milford Sound. We had booked four rooms for my family and all good. The rooms were clean, well looked after. Kitchen had everything in them you would require. Bed comfortable. Wifi fine. Bathroom nice and modern and the one thing I liked the most............ Some one has thought ahead............. a makeup facewasher. Great idea guys.... Might be small but its a handy tool..... Rooms were quite. Nothing to complain about.
NZ motels are generally well equipped, but this was better than most. The room was huge, spa bath included, and there was a private back yard with its own gas barbecue. Flat ground, easy ground floor access to each unit, car parking right at each door - just couldn't fault this place at all.
In our experience, towels in motels are small and rather thin. At some point they no doubt would have been new and fluffy so it was a treat to find new LARGE fluffy towels plus bathrobes in our motel room. Also, to my wife's delight, a drawer in the bathroom vanity full of toiletries including a shower cap. Rare to see such accessories in motels these days and in fact of the 8 separate motels we stayed in during our recent holiday in New Zealand, this was the only one that offered a shower cap. Only a small thing I know but it's the little things that make a difference. The bathroom was very modern and even boasted a large heated mirror - again one of the little things but how annoying is the fogged up mirror in the morning, especially in the cooler areas? Our room was very well equipped with a new and NOT pokey kitchenette with ample utensils - various beer and wine glasses, more cutlery that the typical 2 knives, 2 forks, 2 desert spoons and 2 tea spoons, microwave and benchtop hot plates. The bed was large and comfortable. The motel was reasonably placed, about a 10 minute walk from the centre of town in a very quiet street although even at peak times, I suspect Te Anau would not be particularly chaotic! Of the 8 motels on our trip, this motel offered the second cheapest daily rate and was considered the best of the lot in terms of comfort, amenity, cleanliness and helpful friendly staff.
Not too bad but found the people in reception a bit difficult to deal with. Had to go and ask for more toilet paper and was told sharply that there was paper......... There was not! Also the shower was broken it was fixed straight away but should never have been left like that. The bedside lamps were dangerous and broken with wires exposed and were not fixed despite being asked to do this. Bulbs needed replacing. Despite this very clean and comfortable and well serviced .
