wonderful atmosphere and lovely location, i wanted to stay here forever. not over the top, just beautiful. we didn't eat dinner here, just breakfast. the pool is cold and refreshing. we had unseasonably warm weather (30).
The hotel is located in the wonderful town of Estremoz in the eastern province of the Alentejo region of Portugal. The hotel is located in a quiet location within a short walk of the centre of the town and the many restaurants, bars and cafes. The hotel advertises as a spa hotel but the spa was closed and undergoing refurbishment during our visit. The management of the hotel and restaurant aspects are under different management. The hotel itself is a magnificent building with many lovely features, including well proportioned rooms and spacious public areas. However, it is the management and service aspects of the hotel that was the big let down. The first impression was very poor on checking in with the gentleman on duty being totally disinterested and frankly rude. The advertised warm welcome and drink never materialised. Reception and management staff were surly and bordering on downright rude, although the housekeeping staff were always polite and friendly. The breakfasts were highly disappointing with a very limited selection with food left in warmers for extended periods without being replenished or replaced. The coffee and tea were served in flasks and again not replenished regularly and so again were cold. The dining room staff were again not friendly and helpful and very displeased to be asked to replenish items. We would have eaten our evening meal at the hotel at least once during our stay if the breakfast experience had been better and the low utilisation rate reflected than most guests came to the same conclusion and opted for the many good options in town. The terrace area was potentially very pleasant but there was no effort to switch on light in the evening, put up the sun umbrellas during the day, nor to sweep up the leaves on the chairs and table, broken tiles etc, detracting from utilising the facilities. The pool was again a lovely feature but the lack of staff to provide the standard hotel services of drinks and snacks again was reflected in under utilisation. In summary great potential and core facilities but lacking motivated management and the attention to detail to realise this potential.
Stayed just 2 nights whilst touring the Alentejo. Wish it had been longer! The hotel is very clean and comfortable, our room on the second floor was spacious and very quiet. Breakfast was plentiful, varied & delicious! The pool was delightful, though could have had a few more sunbeds ( at busy times). Most of all , we loved the hotel's proximity to the charming town of Estremoz. You can easily walk easily walk out to local restaurants. The hotel represents excellent value for money. I would definitely recommend & will return if back in this area.
Everything reviewers say about the peaceful stay here is absolutely true. It is the exact opposite of chains and all the better for being an independent hotel. The room we had on the second floor was spacious, extremely clean and had a double aspect, looking over the terrace and up the small road to Estremoz. The pool was lovely...indeed it was hard to tear ourselves away to look around nearby towns. The menu doesn't seem to change so you'd probably only want to eat in the dining room once, but there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. If you're looking for a base from which to explore this part of the Alentejo, this would be perfect.
The staff at this hotel were cheerful and friendly. The room was very clean and had everything we needed for an overnight stay. We ate at the restaurant and found the food delicious and plentiful. Pre-dinner drinks on the patio were very pleasant!
Last weekend, 25-27th Aug, we stayed here after a last minute reservation. The bedroom provided seemed to be a single room with two towels. The room space was fine, the toilette very small but not big deal, so far. The real problem started Saturday, at 3p.m, when guests, for the wedding started to arrive. The silence around the pool turned into a disco and the pool itself was invaded by the young guests that jumped and screamed. After this noise, we decided to leave, to visit the city but when we came back from diner, the noise coming from the basement, where the party was taking place, wouldn't let us sleep. After an intention to make a formal complaint and checkout one day before, we were assured that the noise would go down and we would be able to sleep. And so it was! We were shocked to find out that the hotel accepts bedroom reservations when they have also big events in the restaurant!!! We were told this was the first time as the hotel and restaurant management is now owned by different companies. So, we were, apparently, the first victims but imagine what may happen in the future!! Beware and look for somewhere else if you need a peaceful weekend!
A dignified Hotel with variety .Lovely pool with grass&hard ground areas. Also lovely shady area(creepers)with tables&chairs.Lounges with plenty of reading matter. Breakfast with hot &cold food.Need more staff when there are a lot of people to check in or out.to avoid long waits. One person is not enough.Care with towels..no bath mat one morning & no bidet towels another.Overall excellent value.
Really enjoyed this lovely weekend at this Charm Hotel Pateo dos Solares, is a comfortable combination of a traditional and modern design in the amazing vineyard region of the Alentejo, and Estremoz is vibrate typical portuguese city with main players of Winemakers in Portugal!!
We stayed here for two nights on a our tour of the Alentejo. We were initially offered a double room with a conecting door and although the room was good we really do not appreciate conecting doors so asked to be moved. After some discussion and an offer of a room in the garden annex (not as good as the main building) we were accommodated in the main hotel. It seems the hotel was due to be full the following night due to a tour group (japanese) staying. Room was on the first floor and although perfectly acceptable was rather grey and functional rather than charming. Room had a large circular window which overlooked the garden/pool area. Room had everything we needed. TV, mini bar and aircon. Bathroom again was OK. Pool however is the highlight of the small hotel. Breakfast was fine however on the morning the group came down 'en masse' the staff struggled to cope tables were not cleared fast enough and food was not being replaced. Location is within a five minute stroll of the town center. There is ample parking around the hotel. Staff speak english.
Situated in a beautiful walled garden only a few minutes walk from the centre of this charming little town, the hotel is a peaceful and luxurious place. It is a short drive to the Lisbon to Spain motorway which makes it easy to explore the area and visit the hill towns such as Evora and Elvas and the local wineries. We stayed for a week and were given a large comfortable room with its own terrace. Service was very friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi was so good it was accessible in the garden and pool area. Nice breakfasts and dinner though the menu does not change and most guests seem to eat out in the town. We really enjoyed our brief holiday here and would thoroughly recommend this hotel if you enjoy pease and quiet.
