Probably unusual but stayed here for 7 nights whilst helping my daughter move house - suspect most people are here for 1 or 2 nights.. As an IHG rewards member I used my points which gave great value. Have stayed here before just after it opened and wondered what it would be like after a few years of use, but everything still looks new - no worn carpets and exceptionally clean. The room was great with lots of space and a lovely bathroom with one of the best showers of any hotel I have stayed in. My only criticism is the lack of USB plugs - these should have been included during the new build. Luckily Southend is only a small airport so aircraft noise is minimal: in-fact there is more traffic noise from the roundabout leading to McDonalds and the retail park. Didn't use the restaurant so no comments although did use the bar and the service was good and its a relaxing area to sit and look over the airfield. Staff were excellent, very helpful and attentive (even when stressed out by awkward customers).
Nice clean room but over priced. Staff helpful. Food expensive too. Good choice of food for breakfast. Restaurant menu very limited. choice also expensive. Next to Southend airport so possible reason for high price.
I stayed here for a couple of nights and it's a great hotel . Very modern , comfortable beds and a lovely bathroom . The bar / restaurant isn't cheap and you have to pay to park though but still giving it 5 stars as we booked in advance and got a reasonable price for the room .
Positives: the location is great for mean walking distance to airport hotel and railway. View of the runway and good double glazing to keep noise out. Rooms are spacious and clean, with working quiet air-con and free wifi. Negatives: Reception staff did not have any training on IHG rewards scheme or tiers. *** Avoid the hotel's 1935 restaurant, I have never had a good meal there, the restaurant management were the same since my last visit, and still lacking quality and service. I ordered their double burger, and as you can see from the photo it did not match the description. I had to ask for Jalapeño slaw as the chef forgot to include it, she also forgot the 1935 sauce, fried onion, onion, gherkin and ketchup! I was not checked-on during the meal but the chips were ok. Fortunately a McDonalds across the road for a complete burger. I think this will be my last stay at Southend Holiday Inn.
Once again we received a wonderful welcome on arrival. We have stayed in this hotel in the past also and whenever I think of visiting Southend-on-Sea this is always number one in my list. The smart girl at the reception was very friendly and efficient. So, check-in was quick and easy. I was allocated a room that I requested for at the time of booking. We are an elderly couple and my wife has walking difficulties, so this room and its location meet our requirements. Both the room and the bathroom were spotlessly clean with everything in place. The beds were comfortable. The restaurant is on the fifth floor with a very nice view of Southend Airport which we both like. It was good to see again the standards of dress code both at the reception and at the restaurant that I always like about a hotel. The staff throughout the hotel is very friendly, polite and kind. They think of everything and nothing is a problem for them. The Bar area is also very comfortable where guests can relax over a drink in the evening. Before I left I had a chance of seeing the General Manager of the hotel. He is also a very nice gentleman and I enjoyed having a brief conversation with him. I promised to return soon. I wish all the members of staff the very best of luck
On check in met by a charming young lady - Hannah. Very friendly, professional and with a speedy check in. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, with a bath and shower. (Also yummy biscuits with selection of tea and coffee). There is bar on the ground floor opposite reception with another bar and restaurant on the 5th floor which overlooks the airport, it looks lovely on a sunny evening with a great sunset to finish the evening off. All of the staff without exception are courteous, friendly and professional. Breakfast - ample to choose from buffet style with additional items available to order if required. A definite place I would revisit if the opportunity arose.
Nice looking place great bar staff but have lately noticed that the standard of food has dropped we come here quite often for a drink and a bite to eat but there seems to be a few problems when the food arrive we tend to stick to the same thing but there is no consistency the menu states that the burgers come with a relish and mustard mayo that has not been the case when asked why it is missing the bar staff said it is an typo error but they put it on the side when they feel like it. i notice of late that every thing taste of grill a bit burnt and bitter you cant win the food is either overcooked and raw in the middle. The main restaurant is nice but a bit over priced for what you get not much portion control views are nice watching the arrivals and departures.
Faultless from start to finish. Katie on reception was a delight and very welcoming. The room was so new, modern and comfortable. I had room service and the food was of restaurant rather than pub quality - all hot and fresh. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice and a great view over the airport watching the world go by. Check out was painless. All staff throughout the hotel were so happy and helpful and seemed to really care about its guests. I was initially concerned about the hotel's location being next to airport but it was so quiet and also easy walking distance to train station for trains to London. Great value too. All Holiday Inns should be like this one - it sets the standard in my view.
The usual high standard of Holiday inn rooms can be expected at this hotel. It is sensible to book directly with IHG hotels since booking.com etc cannot guarantee the type of room you will get despite their assurances. We had an executive room which was well appointed with a view across the city, other rooms have views across the airport. The restaurant on the top floor is very good but seems to lack healthy options on the menu, in my opinion a sad lack in this day and age.
Had an early flight out of Southend so decided to stay the night rather than get up at dawn. Lovely Hotel very spacious well equipped rooms. Staff very helpful from arrival to departure, offering to book dinner or arrange room service. Great views of the airport, would defini
