Breakfast was mediocre, room service: they did not have what was on the menu. Eden Spa was not as clean as expected. Contracted very bad illness after use of the spa. The hotel was not up to standards, and the reception ladies took a while to come up with the final invoice. Will not return.
We spent one night at Down Hall for a friend's birthday. Our room was small but comfortable and beautifully decorated. The staff were friendly. I assumed the spa on site was open to hotel residents but in fact is charged extra and was fully booked when we were there. There is a very small gym/sauna/steam room in the hotel basement. Breakfast was busy so we were seated in the bar which was a shame. Overall a nice stay.
A relaxed drive along winding country lanes, through villages where you may notice thatched roofs houses complement their contemporary counterparts, will lead you to almost miss the turn off to down hall. The drive opens out onto a wonderfully picturesque and delightful building with ample parking and beautiful grounds The reception area is simple the hallways have deep carpets and the rooms are well put together. Big fluffy bathrobes in bathrooms
Stayed for two nights whilst away with work recently and wow - beautiful place, 5* easy. Spa, gym, bar & restaurant, lovely rooms and bathrooms, foods amazing, staff are great. Would definitely recommend a stay at this venue. It's lovely. Enough said really!
It was a weekend away & the hotel was nice although my weekend was ruined by an awful guest who decided to attack me after breakfast for 'looking' at her - I was amazed by her insecurities & truly couldn't understand why... she went on to say that because she was dressed in trainers at breakfast I had an issue with her 😱 The hotel itself was pleasant but the 'type' of guests it attracts have much to be desired! & that sadly is the reason I can only go be 2*'s
Celebrated my 50th birthday with friends, beautiful hotel, excellent grill room, food was superb, service was superb also, made my birthday extra special, thank you downhall . I highly recommend this hotel, gorgeous surroundings, the main lounge is breath taking, content staff giving the best experiences of fine dinning and making you feeling relaxed. This is a place I will be visiting more often, a jewel in the country side.
We spent a day and night here to celebrate our Anniversary. We upgraded to an Executive Room which overlooked the rear gardens and fountains which was a very good move as the scene was lovely. The room was large, very clean and well-decorated. Warm and comforatble... and very quiet! Had afternoon tea in one of the restaurants. This was home-made cakes and various sandwiches. These were lovely and did the job very well. Attended the grill restaurant in the evening and again the food was first-rate. Returned the next morning for a full breakfast which served just about everything so again, we were not dissapointed. We did the Spa experiance and again, we were not dissapointed. A nice dip in the spa pool, followed by the sauna and then two treatments, a relaxing read with a nice cuppa... bliss! Staff... all the staff were great and ALL were English-speaking which added to the overall GREAT experiance. Could not fault any of them, all of them did everything they coud for us. A lovely weekend... Thank you Down Hall
Stayed here on a Saturday night - could not fault it. The hotel itself was impressive, the room was huge (in the west wing) and the staff were superb. We had some drinks in the bar early evening and service was very good. Later on had a lovely meal - thought the quality of food was excellent for a hotel restaurant. Breakfast the next day was good even though we were right at the tail end of it. Used the gym which we had to ourselves (it was Sunday morning I suppose). Would love to go back and see the lovely grounds and possibly visit the spa.
The room looked amazing, loved the large variety of coffees and teas in the room, bathroom had some hair on the slipmat, and bedsheet some marks, apart from that everything was very clean. Mattress was a bit small for the 2of us so spent most of the evening awake. We've only stayed 1night and as had a large lunch wanted just some light bites for dinner, was a bit shocked on a basic sandwich price for £8.50 and a just okish soup for £8.00, and for me it was uncomfortable to eat soup at the bar area. Breakfast was great enjoyed it especially that they made the effort to find me decaf tea (although cup needed to be changed as it had marks on it). So for those few small bits why I've only given 4stars. Would possibly return here but definitely would eat out in the evening and would check bedding earlier to be able to get it changed.
We attended a wedding at the hotel and were impressed with the beautiful grandeur. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious and had a lovely view of the grounds. The room rate was also very good for the hotel. The water temperature in the shower was just warm and the shower head whistled like a Peruvian pipe quartet. The wedding was well organised, the rooms looked amazing and the food was lovely. The serving team were very attentive and the wedding went without a hitch. Breakfast was average at best. I would highly recommend this hotel as a wedding venue.
