bed was very hard other than that it was good and easy access off interstate

The gnome behind the front desk was rude, made us pay and upcharge in cash. The rooms were dirty, old, dusty and smelly....

Room was filthy. My sheets had makeup and hair on them. This place is an absolute dive

I have neck problem, pillows could have been fluffed up like I do at home. I'm single, but the form I filled out for the room said 2 not 1 occupant. The breakfast waffle maker was good but I was disappointed in the syrup. Coffee was good as was the orange juice. So I guess I'd rate the breakfast as Just OK.

Clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly.....parking was a bit limited

WiFi didn't work and it had an old TV. They have a small indoor pool though.

We stayed here to break up a 14 hour road trip. We just needed a comfortable bed and decent shower. This hotel fit the bill and the rate was reasonable.

We chose the hotel because they allow Dogs for only$5. Our room was at the end of a hall, next to a back door that opened to a dark field and parking lot. Anyone could walk in without a key. The room was clean, but very basic. The breakfast was ok. The location is in a remote area and only truck stops within walking distance. Ask for a room close to the "Lobby".

We had a fast check-in & check-out, room had all amenities' needed.

I was supposed to have a non smoking room, the room smelled like a bar. I heard mice in the walls at night, woke me up.

Not a bad location. The rooms are a bit dated, could use some updating. The bed linens are quite worn. Carpet was dirty. Don't get too excited about the free movie - these are on VHS and are quite old.

The exterior of the hotel is not very nice. But the room was well kept and clean. The free wireless internet could have been a bit faster, but it was reliable. The bed was very comfortable and it had real pillows on it, not just the usual super-thin things you see in most budget priced hotels. I was extremely comfortable. The staff was welcoming and the continental breakfast was better than most.

was second time stayed The staff was pleasant. The location is right. The price is right also.

Our stay at the Howard Johnson in Effingham, IL was the lowlight of our trip. We traveled from Columbus, OH to St. Louis, MO; Sullivan, MO; Memphis, TN; Jonesboro, AR; and Jackson, TN. Our trip involved several hotels, but none were more disappointing than the HoJo. The condition of the property was poor, and there was an odd odor in the hotel room. Once we checked-in to our room, it took about an hour to cool the temperature to a comfortable level. The following morning I attempted to use the free WiFi network, but I could only remain connect for a few minutes at a time before the connect would drop even from the lobby. This was frustrating, because I needed to send a Word document and could not stay connect long enough for it to complete. Thankfully, this was only an overnight along our stay, or I would have immediately asked to be walked to another hotel. The ?salt in the wound? was that I chose the Howard Johnson (a recognizable name) over a locally own hotel next door that looked much cleaner and professional. This HoJo needs work!

The Howard Johnson Express in Effingham was perfect for our needs. It is conveniently located right off the expressway. We were visiting family in the area & just needed a comfortable place to stay for one night. The room was larger than expected & the hotel manager was friendly when checking us in. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance. The outside of the hotel/landscaping could use a facelift, in my opinion, but don't let that steer you away.
