Me and my sister stayed here 2 + 2 nights. Very friendly and helpful staff, nice and tidy rooms with good comfort (especially the bed in the first room, most comfortable bed ever!), great cleaning, nice pool, balcony with a good view, good breakfast (only carbs though), fast and pretty cheap laundry service. We borrowed the phone in reception to book scuba diving and also used the storage room when we did a two day excursion around Efate. Decent working free wifi (not in the room, only in common areas) but definitely not good enough for online calls. Really expensive pay wifi, smallest amount of data about 35AUD.
We recently travelled to Port Vila from Perth Western Australia. Having been to Port Vila 6 times previously and staying in a range of Hotels we decided to try Moorings. We booked online with Agoda and got a super cheap rate for 5 Nights in Queen Pool View Room with continental Breakfast included. On arrival the Front of House Guest Services Lady was so accomodating and Friendly quickly getting us checked in with no problem at all. On arriving into our room it was cleaned to the upmost highest standard and finished off with Gorgeous Fresh Island Flowers. Plenty of space for our 3 big suit cases, bed was massive and with a firm mattress which we absolutely love. The room is fitted with an Aircon and a ceiling fan which proved to be great when needed. The room over looks the newly renovated pool with chairs outside your room to enjoy the view was perfect for the morning coffee. We had the continental Breakfast most mornings we highly recommend the awesum fish shaped pancakes. A few days we decided to order off the menu and had the omelette safe to say it's one of the best I've had in Port Vila, absolute amazing fresh flavours. All the staff from the waiters bar staff room cleaners and front of house staff are all extremely welcoming and accomodating nothing is too much drama and we always left the hotel for our days adventure with a huge smile. We had a few afternoon snacks from the menu as it's all day dinning menu the chef is a master of the pizza and a lunch time special gives u an awesum sized meal with the choice of a few drinks including alcohol for a cheap cheap price. Safe to say that on conclusion to our 5 nights at Moorings we didnt wanna come home. We would highly recommend a stay at Moorings it's a short stroll to town and a very manageable walk into the casino of a night time. Thankyou to all The Moorings staff we look forward to popping in, in the very near future. Note: while staying at the end of May to first week in June there was some renovations taking place to the front few rooms/decking and some black tarp put in place to cover the workings this did not once change our opinion of the place and we look forward to staying in the newly renovated Ocean View Rooms on completion.
First impression - where the hell am I? 2 star accommodation at the least. Everything appears worn out and dirty. We stayed one night and I spent it with one eye open. The accomodation did not feel comfortable or safe. Staff were great. Helpful, friendly and very accommodating. The hotel was a five min walk into town - too easy! And you could conveniently catch a local shared van taxi easily from the main road. Would I recommend it? For a one night stay, it's fine. Probably a few stars above a backpack lodging. Not recommended for families! There is a new shopping centre which houses the best bakery on the island (and it's not open mondays) - simply walk out of the "hotel", turn left, walk a few meters and look out for the new building on the right
The location of the Moorings Hotel elicited mixed responses from our party of 4 travelers. Some opined that the views would be better nearer the main part of town, which looks out towards Iririki Island. However, I personally thought the views over Vila Bay more expansive from the Moorings and its proximity to good restaurants such as Au Fare and Reefers a real boon. I have mixed feelings about the quality of service. We initially booked Harbourside Queen rooms via Bookings.com but it was only after initiating contact with the hotel in relation to another matter that I was informed these rooms were being renovated and would not be available for our stay. The hotel did put us up in different rooms at reasonable rates, but they failed to make a reservation at a local restaurant, which was the reason I contacted them in the first place. While the hotel manager was prompt in his electronic correspondence, I was disappointed that he did not once introduce himself to us, despite the many leisurely hours we spent at the bar. It would have been a nice gesture to inquire after our experience considering the small and intimate nature of the accommodation. Our room itself was clean and comfortable with a double bed, air conditioning, ceiling fan, shower and small balcony looking out over the pool and bar. The mattress was firm, which suited me. The hotel grounds, aside from the renovations, is tidy and quite paradisiacal with all the greenery. I have spoken about the bar, and this was a feature of our stay. A really fine, convivial bar serving Tusker both in bottles and in draught. Typically of the Ni-Vanuatu, staff were friendly and accommodating. The Moorings is a comfortably base from which to explore Port Vila and Efate.
I chose to stay at this hotel because of its central location and promises made on its wensite. I Booked a one week stay at this hotel and paid for a queen bed ocean view room. Upon arrival i discovered the Hotel was undertaking renovation and was mostly a construction site. A major attraction of the hotel as perceived from their web page is a central swimming pool with an ocean view. This pool was empty for the duration of my stay (they were fitting new underwater lights) and the ocean view was blocked by the construction barricade. Their website promise equipment such kayaks and snorkling are avaiable. They do not have snorkling equipment, you have to buy your own and the kayaks are avaiable on an expensive hourly rate. Free Wifi is avaiable in the bar but you have to pay for it if you want to access it in your room. The room they provided me had no view at all (you get better views from prison cells), Its 2 windows were made of solid wood louvres. The room contained the basics, a minibar fidge which was off and empty. there are no desk or chair in the rooms. The workman onsite started work early in the morning, with the sound of circular saws and hamering making sleeping impossible. I tried to negotiate a reduced rate for the missleading information and the current state of the hotel but the staff were non receptive. My recomendation for stays in Port Vila, only book your first night as the occupancy rate is faily low, then you will be able to negotiate a better rate or find somewhere nicer.
We stayed at The Moorings last November, there was some confusion about our rooms but Yorick sorted that out straight away. The staff were all lovely, the rooms were comfortable and more than adequate and exceptionally clean with spectacular views. I was lovely to be able to have a chat to the staff without them feeling the pressure to keep working, looking forward to seeing Cedric and Jonathon again. The food there was great and there are a couple of restaurants close by that are really good. Lovely walk into town each morning. We are going back next Friday, we have been advised of the renovations and Yorick again, has sorted it out. It's our new favorite place to stay in Vanuatu.
Considering the location, the quality at the room and the price this hotel is actually very nice. Everything is functional, breakfast is included, facility is clean. Internet is as good as what the area offers... it could be better tough. if you want internet in the room you must pay extra. Overall great value hotel.
Pretty average. Was undergoing renovations while here, so had no pool. Rooms are adequate, beds are not comfortable though. Privacy in rooms also limited if on lower level due to higher floor being able to see straight in if luvers open. Would try somewhere else next time
We have loved staying here from time to time but we were told that the pool would be finished by the time we arrived - it wasn't. We would hsve stayed elsewhere had we known. They put on a nice breakfast and the rooms are always clean.
It was nice to return to The Moorings Hotel on the waters edge and a 5 minute walk to town. Excellent value, good priced meals and friendly service from staff.Jonathon was excellent, very caring. We enjoyed the Wednesday night free movie on the big screen. Important to note, renovations continue until end of April at least, which includes an empty swimming pool. Some guests were unaware of this and were disappointed. I found a Trip Adviser special in December for $59NZ per night. So BEST value ever!!! One suggestion to management... Water sport gear should be free, not 500 vatu an hour. Never ever had a charge for water sport gear before the in Pacific Islands. The Moorings 'over delivers' for a Hotel of it's rating. Others dont have air con and TV. I loved the water views from the deck each afternoon. We would return again. PS. The all you can eat Thai Exotic meal for 2400 vatu on Thursdays, a few minutes away is a must!
