This is a lovely hotel with everything you need on a short holiday. The rooms are small but well appointed. The bathroom is a decent size with a big shower. The pool is always sparkling clean but, in September, was a little too cool for swimming. We had a lovely patio that overlooked the harbour. The shops in Vila are only a short walk away but beware of the killer footpaths!
Some of the staff were grumpy particularly one older gent, he didn't like my grandson playing a board game with his grandmother and mother said children had to be supervised.. WTF, he was sitting on their knee, needless to say they had to stop, most staff were friendly, food was average
Unfortunately in the small print it stated that the pool was closed - so instead of this beautiful photo on the sales brochure - expect a construction site, small run down rooms - terrible food and poor service.
First time to Port Vila, no expectations in the south pacific, i've been to Fiji, New Caledonia an they don't rock my boat . But, its all in the But, this budget price hotel with harbour views was ok. Friendly staff, good bar staff, they went out of their way to keep a party of 15 happy. Breakfast was a quasi continental , island style, coffee was great, Tanna coffee, it rates, so it gets my tic of approval, easy walk in to town 15 minutes from the airport. I will go back in the future on the way to Epi isl. Scott Land Of Oz
The Moorings Hotel is overflowing with 'positives' so I will leave my one and only negative to the very end. Our pool side room 204 was quite small but still had ample space for a couple and it was very clean. The shower was awesome with fantastic water pressure and lots of hot water (unlike some fancy 5 star hotels I have stayed in). Our bar fridge was off Balance and tilted over slightly when you opened it which was a MINOR issue I forgot to mention to management. A previous reviewer mentioned they did not feel safe at this hotel which is ridiculous. The owner lives at the Hotel I believe, we saw a security guard several times and there is 24 hour reception. We felt 100% safe at all times. The FREE breakfast was fantastic and included cereals, tropical fruits, muffins, toast, coffee and juice in a beautiful open tropical restaurant. It was the perfect way to start the day. The evening meals in the restaurant were delicious. The reception desk staff friendly and helpful with tours. The hotel has beautiful tropical plants and YES they are doing some renovations which blocked Some of the ocean views but did not bother us at all and we were given a discounted price to compensate. Once the Renno is finished the hotel will have a lovely balcony. The hotel is an easy flat walk along the esplanade to shops and the Mama's markets or you can catch a bus outside the hotel for 150 Vatu. It is 2 minutes walk to a French bakery in the TANNA Russet shopping centre. One minute walk to the beautiful Reefers Bar. You can get FREE wifi in the hotel Community restaurant area and we had NO problems with connection but there is NO free wifi in your room. If you are desperate for WIFI in your hotel room then log on to the FREE.vanuatu wifi (I assume this is provided by the Vanuatu tourism office) and you can get 15 MINUTES of free wifi every 2 hours anywhere in Port Vila. My husband hired a SUP from the hotel for $5 an hour which is very reasonable (we have been to countries that charge $50 an hour). The swimming pool is not heated but we did not find it cold and once in it was very refreshing. My one and ONLY negative about this hotel Is I am a non smoker and quite a few guests sat around the pool area puffing on cigarettes so this meant our time in the pool was limited and we needed to leave. Perhaps management could look into this issue as I believe everyone should be able to use the pool and not subjected to passive smoking health risks or the revolting cigarette smell. Apart from the smoking issue at the swimming pool this little 2 star hotel is awesome and you will get so much more than you are expecting. We loved it.
Lovely location on the waterfront. Friendly, helpful staff and clean, compact rooms in pretty surrounds, with swimming pool and complimentary tropical breakfast. Jonathan at the bar & restaurant was always very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.... thanks. Everything you would want for a 2 -3 star hotel. Perfect base for sightseeing, tours, shopping etc. Currently undergoing earthworks and maintenance on the seawall, so the discounted price was much appreciated, and made the total of 8 days stay even better value, for this solo female traveller. Was able to leave spare bag in storage room while visiting outer Islands, and felt completely safe coming and going at all times. Just be aware that this is a lovely, friendly, compact hotel complex with a bar and restaurant, in a tropical garden, overlooking the water - It is not a Resort !! It is perfect for those who are out and about during the day, who want to come back to a relaxing and comfortable setting, have a swim, then sit and watch the sun set, with a drink and dinner in the evening.
Me and my sister stayed here 2 + 2 nights. Very friendly and helpful staff, nice and tidy rooms with good comfort (especially the bed in the first room, most comfortable bed ever!), great cleaning, nice pool, balcony with a good view, good breakfast (only carbs though), fast and pretty cheap laundry service. We borrowed the phone in reception to book scuba diving and also used the storage room when we did a two day excursion around Efate. Decent working free wifi (not in the room, only in common areas) but definitely not good enough for online calls. Really expensive pay wifi, smallest amount of data about 35AUD.
We recently travelled to Port Vila from Perth Western Australia. Having been to Port Vila 6 times previously and staying in a range of Hotels we decided to try Moorings. We booked online with Agoda and got a super cheap rate for 5 Nights in Queen Pool View Room with continental Breakfast included. On arrival the Front of House Guest Services Lady was so accomodating and Friendly quickly getting us checked in with no problem at all. On arriving into our room it was cleaned to the upmost highest standard and finished off with Gorgeous Fresh Island Flowers. Plenty of space for our 3 big suit cases, bed was massive and with a firm mattress which we absolutely love. The room is fitted with an Aircon and a ceiling fan which proved to be great when needed. The room over looks the newly renovated pool with chairs outside your room to enjoy the view was perfect for the morning coffee. We had the continental Breakfast most mornings we highly recommend the awesum fish shaped pancakes. A few days we decided to order off the menu and had the omelette safe to say it's one of the best I've had in Port Vila, absolute amazing fresh flavours. All the staff from the waiters bar staff room cleaners and front of house staff are all extremely welcoming and accomodating nothing is too much drama and we always left the hotel for our days adventure with a huge smile. We had a few afternoon snacks from the menu as it's all day dinning menu the chef is a master of the pizza and a lunch time special gives u an awesum sized meal with the choice of a few drinks including alcohol for a cheap cheap price. Safe to say that on conclusion to our 5 nights at Moorings we didnt wanna come home. We would highly recommend a stay at Moorings it's a short stroll to town and a very manageable walk into the casino of a night time. Thankyou to all The Moorings staff we look forward to popping in, in the very near future. Note: while staying at the end of May to first week in June there was some renovations taking place to the front few rooms/decking and some black tarp put in place to cover the workings this did not once change our opinion of the place and we look forward to staying in the newly renovated Ocean View Rooms on completion.
First impression - where the hell am I? 2 star accommodation at the least. Everything appears worn out and dirty. We stayed one night and I spent it with one eye open. The accomodation did not feel comfortable or safe. Staff were great. Helpful, friendly and very accommodating. The hotel was a five min walk into town - too easy! And you could conveniently catch a local shared van taxi easily from the main road. Would I recommend it? For a one night stay, it's fine. Probably a few stars above a backpack lodging. Not recommended for families! There is a new shopping centre which houses the best bakery on the island (and it's not open mondays) - simply walk out of the "hotel", turn left, walk a few meters and look out for the new building on the right
The location of the Moorings Hotel elicited mixed responses from our party of 4 travelers. Some opined that the views would be better nearer the main part of town, which looks out towards Iririki Island. However, I personally thought the views over Vila Bay more expansive from the Moorings and its proximity to good restaurants such as Au Fare and Reefers a real boon. I have mixed feelings about the quality of service. We initially booked Harbourside Queen rooms via Bookings.com but it was only after initiating contact with the hotel in relation to another matter that I was informed these rooms were being renovated and would not be available for our stay. The hotel did put us up in different rooms at reasonable rates, but they failed to make a reservation at a local restaurant, which was the reason I contacted them in the first place. While the hotel manager was prompt in his electronic correspondence, I was disappointed that he did not once introduce himself to us, despite the many leisurely hours we spent at the bar. It would have been a nice gesture to inquire after our experience considering the small and intimate nature of the accommodation. Our room itself was clean and comfortable with a double bed, air conditioning, ceiling fan, shower and small balcony looking out over the pool and bar. The mattress was firm, which suited me. The hotel grounds, aside from the renovations, is tidy and quite paradisiacal with all the greenery. I have spoken about the bar, and this was a feature of our stay. A really fine, convivial bar serving Tusker both in bottles and in draught. Typically of the Ni-Vanuatu, staff were friendly and accommodating. The Moorings is a comfortably base from which to explore Port Vila and Efate.
