The Roxburghe Hotel

Great location. Easy to get to everywhere. Spacious room.

Was advised to book a hotel off Princes st. This hotel was located off George St, which is a quiet street, with lots of boutiques and restaurants. It has recently undergone a refurbishment, and the room was fabulous, old fashioned with all the modern amenities. Good size too. Also had a spa and pool which we used as well. Staff were helpful, friendly and courteous.

Orbitz botched our reservation at this hotel and upon arrival we were told that the reservation would need to be remade on site. The staff was very apologetic and very intent on fixing the issue. They found us a room which was an upgrade to the original reservation while keeping the price promised by Orbitz. The Roxburghe is well located with in walking distance of Rose Street, which boasts a number of restaurants and bars. You can walk to the Edinburgh Castle and the staff at the hotel was kind enough to make several suggestions of places to eat and drink which were off the beaten path and less crowded than the usual tourist traps.

Very good location and attentive service. Some of our group did have much more spacious rooms than others.

The only thing this hotel had going for it was it's location... which is a dime a dozen in the city center. This is a highly over priced hotel with lack luster amenities. The staff was not overly friendly or helpful. PARKING IS NOT FREE AS ADVERTISED. We paid close to $40 (USD) to park in public parking for the night. The room it self was very disappointing with a small, outdated and semi clean bathroom. The hotel room was not fully furnished... as half the room was left just empty. The pool is in small room in the basement with tile falling off the walls in and around it. Definitely not the same pool shown in the pictures advertising it. I am not a Debbie Downer in the least... I just want to make sure you know what your getting into. Hope it helps!

Not impressed. Especially for the price. We were led to believe that breakfast and parking were included in our hefty bill...not the case. That tacked on another 50 pounds. The room was shabby. It clearly used to contain two beds. They had not even bothered to redistribute furniture as camouflage. The pool and spa were not at all what they looked like online. Very misleading and not worth the price.

Excellent hotel within walking distance of the castle, great food and tours. It was a pleasure to stay there. Clean, large rooms and a friendly staff.

Souls have free wifi in rooms instead of just in lobby.

My girlfriend an I booked this hotel rather quickly and did not spend much time researching before. It turned out to be a great pick. Located at Charlotte Square, one of the more beautiful squares in the city, several bus stops (including the AirLink to the airport) stop within minutes of the hotel. Rose and George street are two main streets in the new part of town. While not the most central location for the Castle or Royal Mile, many things are in walking distance and buses seem to run every few minutes. Hotel staff was very knowledgeable and friendly and provided us with good information about the city and several day-tours. One minor point of criticism is that there was some confusion about whether or not breakfast was included in the rate, although the hotel did resolve the issue swiftly and in our interest. Breakfast was good, although several nearby restaurants offer better value. We did not use the restaurant/bar for other meals. While the hallways seem a bit dated, the room was actually very spacious, clean, and nice. While we didn't have much of a view, there was never any reason to expect one based on location anyway. We did not use the spa/gym facilities. Lastly, it would be nice to have free WiFi also in rooms and not just the lobby area, but again, not a major inconvenience. Overall, this is a great place to stay based on location and service. While I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for families (at least I did not see much along the lines of child entertainment) , it should be fine for most couples and business travelers.

This hotel's location enabled a short walk to get the hop-on, hop-off bus and is within walking distance of many of Edinburgh's sights. The staff is quite helpful.

Nice location. Clean. Helpful staff. Skimpy on the toiletries. Variable water temperature in shower - sometimes scalding. Thin pillows but big fluffy towels. No free internet. Good price for the location and one of a very few hotels that I could book a twin room (for sure 2 twin beds) on line. I would stay there again but would bring a bar of soap.

We stayed in this hotel for almost a week during a trip to Ediburgh for a wedding. It was within walking distance of the sites we wanted to see and many restaurants. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, and the price was very reasonable. The only improvements I would suggest are brighter reading lamps on the bedside tables and drawers (not just a closet) for clothes. I would happily stay in this hotel again.

Location was central to all points in Edinburgh and easily accessible to bus and trains. Staff was friendly and accommodating and the room was very comfortable. I would stay here again

Wonderful city and hotel experiences. Fine people and great happenings.

The room we were given was over the alley way that contained 8 trash bins, several of them glass recycling bins. The pubs in front of them recycled at all hours of the day even until 11:30 at night. Also we were next to the cleaning elevator so we heard them starting at 8 or so in the morning. In other words a very noisy room. We made the reservation several months ahead of time and expected a better room.

We stayed at the Roxburghe on 3 separate nights during our 2-week British vacation; so we experienced 3 different rooms. All rooms were great; but those in the older part were nicer--lots of character. Scottish breakfast buffet in the restaurant was excellent. Staff went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Great location in New Town near Princess St. for shopping and dining. Good access to taxis, Waverly & Haymarket train stations & bus lines. We cannot praise the Roxburghe enough!

The room was small for the price. We'd transferred from the airport Mariott which was very roomy but 8 miles from downtown to this hotel in order to be closer to the attractions. The location was supurb, staff friendly and efficient but the hotel was rather expensive for what you got. However, the location does make up for that fact. You can walk everywhere and the bus stops are very close. I'd stay there again.

Love the scottish but the worst hotel out of three we stayed in, not accomodating or friendly.

On Charlotte Square in the New Town, one block off Princes Street, view of the Castle (proof we weren't in Ohio any more). Larger room than we expected, especially considering our large city/old hotel experiences. Twin beds, but pushed together with one headboard as on cruise ships. Digital tv with numbers of radio stations, as well. Large modern bath, good shower/tub. Recently refurbished rooms, we were told.Uniformly pleasant and helpful staff.Pricey breakfast, but moderately priced and wonderfully prepared dinners of regional ingredients. I thought pork belly was a joke--"He cornered the market in pork bellies"--but the meal, with potatoes mashed with black pudding, was delicious. So was the Scottish lamb; so was the fish with crab/prawn risotto. The hotel is between Rose and George Streets, both with plenty of pubs, take-aways, and shops within walking distance. We chose the hotel on the basis of its price on [...]but the satisfaction went way beyond price. We'd go back in a minute.

Only stayed one night, but they took care of us from the minute we walked in. Bags were delivered to our room while we went sight-seeing Room was small, but nicely furnished and VERY comfortable bed. Easy walk from the hotel to train and buses including the Airlink 100 which goes to the airport. Definitely a higher end hotel
