The rooms are furnished with a nod to India and it works! Comfortable, easily accessible hotel to the centre of Edinburgh and Murrayfield (which we could see from our bedroom and bathroom window.) Happy to return
Spent Easter weekend here for a family wedding & was very pleasantly surprised. I hadn't expected much for the price but I had a lovely, small double room with clean fresh bedding. The staff were lovely & looked after me when I came back a bit worse for wear! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone else. I only had one small complaint - no mirror in the bedroom so had to keep popping into the bathroom to check I was drying my hair OK. But they even gave me a free glass of wine whilst I was waiting for my taxi to the wedding then left 2 cream eggs outside my room on Easter Sunday morning. What more could you ask for?
We have just returned from Edinburgh after staying 4 nights at OR residence and hotel. The staff is friendly and would help to sought out any problem. The room (classic double room) was comfortable however it can be made better. The floors were creepy so much so that when somebody else in the next room walked, they would start making noise in our room. Yes, creepy! The big issue was that the room being at the back of the hotel, TV and Internet did not work properly. We were without TV for 3 nights and the 4th night it worked but with static noise. Internet worked best in the front room and would go off in the bed room. All the other amenities worked. One more advice for them: if possible, please hang the looking mirror in the bed room a bit lower because no woman is 10 feet tall to look into it. Despite that a beautiful themed hotel on Indian Raj.
For the price the hotel, room as everything you need, bedding fresh, coffee, milk, sugar, tea, cookies, shampoo and body wash, lovely fresh fluffy towels, and great bed to sleep in, excellent nights sleep, staff are very friendly, lovely and helpful and there 24/7 if you need anything. I would definitely stay again
Loved the theming, the decor and the location. It's a lovely old building. The bedding was Fresh and clean. The was a patio door to the yard and it all felt very spacious. Would definitely recommend to everyone. There's a bus outside that runs straight into the Center.
Pretty basic, they say parking is possible but neglect to say a few blocks away, we rented 3 executive double suites for our family, supposed to be identical but all vastly different in size and quality. Our room was excessively hot turning all radiators off made no difference. Advised our bed room was sitting on top of the hotel boiler so best to avoid suite called "Bollywood" especially as it kept making klunking noises at regular intervals all night, they didn't replenish our supplies on second night but gave me a big bag of tea coffee and biscuits on requesting a few teas to tied us over. Kinda confused over breakfast some info suggested free continental breakfast with an £8 charge so assumed that was for a cooked breakfast but wrong it was that price for a pretty limited cold breakfast, there is nothing within walking distance of the hotel. Booked this hotel for location thinking it was a short walking distance from Edinburgh centre but really an hours walk away. This hotel was double the price of other hotels we stayed at during this Scottish trip and provided a lot less quality than any other, but accept that Edinburgh would be more expensive.
We arrived late afternoon for our planned stay of two nights. On arrival, the staff member greeted us warmly and we were asked for upfront payment of £20 more than my email confirmation amount. She promised that she would phone and try and sort it out, to which she did. On arrival in our room on the 2nd floor, we were impressed that the room was spacious but we noticed so many flaws and lack of attention to detail that it ruined our stay. Firstly the window frames had dirty and peeling paint; when turning down the bed, instead of a fitted sheet, there was a flat sheet in its place and this would come out exposing the not-overly clean mattress cover; there was no info on charges for the telephone, places of interest in the area or even what to do/where to go in case of fire; there was no hairdryer and only three coat hangers in the cupboard with a broken piece of furniture stashed in, too. There was a huge crack in the wall and one of the pictures was missing from its frame. The bathroom: the floor and wall tiles were cracked and dirty; there was a lone (thankfully unused) tampon near the loo; there were no plugs for the sink or bath (and we were eventually bought one after about 40 minutes of asking); there was mildew all round the front of the bath tiles and when switching off the light, it would flicker continually. Asked in reception for a hairdryer and was handed a travel one which was so full of lint that I decided against using it. I also asked twice for a WIFI password before being told. We had to turn down the heat to about 1 on the settings and even then the room was uncomfortably hot. We did find the fire escape down the corridor by general exploring but there could be more signs up should there be a fire. We didn't bother with breakfast as after seeing the state of the room, we didn't feel we could trust hygiene levels and received mixed messages saying breakfast was free or cost £8. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Lovely city but its Premier Inn or Travelodge next time...
Starting with the positive: the hotel is located near the centre of Edinburgh and also close to the Murrayfield stadium. The heating and hot water in the rooms worked very well. They had some lovely bits of furniture in the hotel. Now for the not so good: on arrival we were overcharged. The booking confirmation we received listed one price, they had us down for a much higher price (to be fair they did sort this out by the time we left). The room did not look to have been maintained. The bathroom floor tiles were cracked and loose (they wobbled under foot), the ledge over the sink had a loose marble, the hairdryer was full of lint, there was a (thankfully unused) tampon left on the side and the woodwork and grouting were cracked and discoloured. They also seemed to be out of sheets that fitted the bed. The flat sheet on the bed was too small and came loose at several points during the night exposing the mattress protector underneath. We did not eat in the hotel so can't comment on their food. I think this could be a really great themed hotel if it was maintained and cared for well, as it is I would not be looking to return.
The room was large and comfortable, the heating could be adjusted, the shower - slightly erratic but mostly ok, parking in adjacent streets and no charge at the weekend, plenty of good eating options - I recommend Skerries next door (quite upmarket) and Sainsbury's café (the other side of Murrayfield - terrific Scottish breakfast!)
what a lovely hotel staff friendly helpful had a nice breakfast bed so comphy had a ground floor room which was spacious very clean nice big fluffy towels only thing i could fault was think a shower curtain would be better rather than a screen
