The only thing I would have changed about the room was the sound-proofing. We checked several times so see if a window was open because the street sounds were quite loud. Other than that, we had a wonderful stay. The room was very comfortable and the location is superb.

The Concierge was incredible, the location was hard to beat. Hotel was right near the Royal Mile but quiet and relaxing. We will return!

The room was cheerful, cosy and well appointed. We found it odd that UK hotels all seem to not supply facecloths and ice is obtained from the bellboy. But this is not only at this hotel. The only true negative was that if you didn't purchase the full breakfast you couldn't enjoy eating it there as there was no ala carte breakfast option. Staff were very helpful with loaner umbrellas and were curbside the minute our cab pulled up (in the pouring rain!)

Great location just off beaten path but very quiet with convenient access ability to Hop on Hop off buses n within walking distance of the Castle n shopping areas. All be it an upward hike. Quietness and cleanliness make it a great place to stay. Unless you want to be in the middle of the action/noise. A must stay.

The staff knew who we were before we told them, which made the stay even nicer. Everyone was so helpful and polite. I believe we will stay there on our next visit.

The staff was wonderful. They were all kind, helpful and willing to talk about the love of their city. My cousin and I had a wonderful time, enjoyed the visit, the food and the people.

Macdonald Holyrood is a very comfortable hotel with a great location. It is right around the corner from the Royal Mile and the Holyrood Palace. It is clean, quiet, and the bed is very comfortable.

This was a great place to finish off a two week cruise of the Baltic and North Sea. The location is not in the center of town, but close enough - across from the Hollyrood Palace and Park, as well as walking trails. This proved to be a very good thing as the Fringe Festival made any location closer to the town center much less desirable (if you like to sleep through the night). The property is well managed, elegant without being stuffy, and the service was excellent.

Staff was absolutely perfect. Room was very nice, expensive, but quite good.

If this is really a four star hotel, I'm shocked. Upon asking for the air conditioning to be fixed, I was told it wasn't working for most of the rooms. My last day I spoke with the GM on duty. She didn't seem too concerned about the lack of air conditioning.

We really enjoyed the hotel and the staff had great recommendations on local places to visit. Very friendly and helpful!

fine 3 night stay over Halloween 2011. At far end of royal mile and a block off so pretty quiet with a good walk into new town. Staff particularly friendly and helpful. king bed was two singles together and no clock in room.

This was a lovely hotel. The room was upscale and fresh. Great air conditioning, view, furnishings, lobby. Reception staff and information desk were most helpful. Would go back here in a second!

Having worked for the Ritz-Carlton is the only thing that stops me from rating this a 5 star. It's not very large, but what it does have is high-quality and very comfortable. The concierge staff is amazing and very knowledgeable, so be sure to utilize their service

Just around the corner from the Royal Mile this hotel was in a great location for seeing all of the sites in Edinburgh. Hotel was nicer than we expected, personnel were friendly and helpful and food in restaurant was great if a bit on the expensive side (we ate there twice). Rooms had small fridges (great for the beer and wine)very comfy beds, nicely decorated, we felt very comfortable. Concierge helped us organize taxies and even a driver with car for the day to take us to a remote location not on the tourist route. Would have no hesitation going back, top marks!

We wanted a little indulgence at the end of our two week England trip so booked 2 nights here. We are glad we did. Most comfortable and a great location at the bottom of the Royal Mile. Just a short cab ride from the train station. Very helpful staff.

booked last minute on our train from Manchester UK. pleasant surprise with our location and quality but we'd planned on a really nice hotel for the first 3 days of our exploring Scotland trip. Overall Holyrood did not disappoint. Close to the Royal Mile, Arthur's Seat (my wife and I are active hikers, runners, local pub lovers, etc.), extensive work out facilities including pool, bus stop in front, informative staff, walking distance to many historic pubs, etc. were all positives as was the price we got it for. the downsides were some staff, a few, were quite stuffy and didn't naturally go the extra step for us (once again though many did). The other disappointment was the restaurant- a confused ambiance without direction, decor seemed more Denny's than high end 4 star hotel's, serving staff and kitchen unprepared for the volume they encountered (a tour bus stopped, yet these were tourists guests of the hotel) so our service was predicated around taking care of the group, found out the restaurant has had different names over the past few years. Other negative was for a high end hotel wi-fi should not be charged, b & b's don't. Then a capper, we asked for one of those small lotions in our experience are usually available in hotels and were told these items are only for top floor guests- you are kidding me right?! yes we would stay here again, as the friendly staff and their service outweighed the unfriendly ones and odd limits to service.

This truly is a great hotel. First Class service, clean rooms and quality food.

The hotel bed was too soft - so they kindly removed the base. The smoke alarm flashing kept me awake so the manager came up and taped over the light. The staff were wonderful and the place has a great atmosphere

Nice hotel, not bad location. Its a quick walk to the Royal Mile, Princes Street and Georges Street. Its on a slightly deserted end of Holyrood street which made for some nervous late night walks home. Other than that it was great!

Thank you so much for your recent review and I appreciate your feedback in relation to your stay. I am sorry to read you found the hotel quite noisy as this is normally not a negative factor we receive feedback on but I am delighted to read you found the room comfortable and the location ideal. I hope the noise issues do not deter you from returning in the future and we look forward to welcoming you back. Kind regards Andrew Boe Hotel Manager
