Edinburgh City Hotel

Recent guest reviews

Good breakfast, comfortable bed and clean room. The walk to sightsee was 10 or 15 minutes and a bit hilly so if you're not up to that maybe try somewhere closer, but it was great for us.

The hotel location and hotel itself was perfect! Two out of the three front desk people were not pleasant or helpful. I was disappointed to see that the front desk employees didn't seem to care about our experience. However, there was one staff member who went above and beyond. She was so friendly and happy! It was nice to see.

it was a very good experience to stay at the Edinburgh City Hotel. I had a very comfortable room and the help at this hotel was OUTSTANDING. I will definitely stay there again and recommend to Friends

The hotel is perfectly placed to enjoy a large amount of what Edinburgh has to offer, including the Castle, which was a 10-minute walk from the hotel. It's surrounded by a huge variety of restaurants, and the Sainsbury's Local and Tesco Express, a mere 3-5 minute walk from the hotel, will be of special interest to bargain vacationers: These provide very cheap, very quick delicious breakfast of pastries on your way out to enjoy the city. Staff is very friendly (even when arriving at 11:30 at night!), and the room was very clean and comfortable. Literally the ONLY thing that did not exceed my expectations was the Wi-Fi: A consistent signal was nearly as elusive as the storied Nessie of the mysterious Loch Ness. Still, not really a problem if you're out enjoying Edinburgh all day!

Hotel was comfortable and close to everything! We walked to all museums and nearby restaurants. The staff was very nice and helpful when we asked for directions.

Checking into the hotel was seamless and easy. The hotel staff was attentive and knew me by name right away. The hotel room was clean but on the smaller side. IF you have more than two or three bags, you'll have little room to maneuver around. Not all rooms are the same size though. The bathroom was excellent, the shower was refreshing and it was not cramped at all. The hotel staff was helpful in arranging local travel and day trips. Checking out was easy.

First room we were given was large, but had stained carpets. I asked for a new room to be given, but the new room was much smaller than the first, and we decided to keep the original room. Besides the stained carpet, room was ample, bathroom was modern, and the room provided a modern television and coffee making capabilities. We had breakfast at the hotel, which was 8GBP, which we thought was kind of pricey, but average overall in quality. It had both a cold section, and a hot section of items that were made to order. The location of the hotel is excellent, as it is within walking distance of the Edinburgh castle and a number of attractions. The staff is helpful and polite as well. There is a parking area that is small, first come first serve which we did not use, but others seem to have. Overall, I think it's an ok option. It's an old maternity ward, which has been converted into a hotel. While the staff is very nice, the hotel itself could certainly use some updates.

Very nice hotel in historic bulding. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Breakfast is very good. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is good if you like walking a lot and up and downhill. It is very close to the Royal Mile and the Castle, but returning after a long busy day can be better done in a taxi.

The location is great since everything is in walking distance. The building is an old hospital, but modernized. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent, something for every taste. Easy to get to from the airport by Bus #35. We had a really quiet room. We were allowed to park our rental car for free. They were flexible with early check-in and late check-out.

Based on our experience in 3 star hotels this one is a high average. However, the special price breakfast with the option for a fully cooked breakfast or a continental breakfast was a plus. The staff was exceptionally helpful to the point of letting me use a phone charge cable for my cell phone when I discovered I had forgotten mine. A liability is the entrance at the front of the hotel was locked without a referring to the back as the real entrance. The television cable channels were a disappointment. The location could have been a little more convenient to primary city sites.

We were only in Edinburgh for a single night but wanted a clean and comfortable hotel with available parking within walking distance of some particular neighborhoods and the Castle. Our stay was pleasant and the hotel met all of our expectations.

The location of this hotel was great. It is about a mile walk to the center of all of the sites. The staff was wonderful. We were lucky and got a place to park our car. We would suggest that they issue vouchers for those not lucky to get a car space here. We were nervous about that detail. The room was beautiful and very modern and clean.

We arrived from Montreal after a long and overnight flight, exhausted. Even though it was only 10 in the morning, they had a room ready for us!!! The staff was outstanding, answered our every need. The location is very good, 10-15 minute walk from the Royal Mile, and 25 minutes from Princes St.; allows you to see another part of Edinburgh. The historic building, yet renovated rooms, allow you to experience a little bit of history, yet with modern amenities. We would surely stay here again.

Excellent stay ............ Good experience Nice service

If you're looking for a launchpoint to a Scot's experience more than than the Royal Mile this hotel is for you. Located on the 35 bus line and within easy walking distance of High Street and local shopping entertainment and residential areas, this hotel can't be beat for location and value. Hotel Staff are friendly and responsive. Accomodations are quiet, clean, comfortable and well maintaned. The hotel restaraunt was tastefully appointed, service was prompt, food was tasteful and on a whole was a good value experience.

We enjoyed our stay at Edinburgh City Hotel. Caroline was very helpful to us. Wished we could stay longer.

Great location, 5-10 minutes from the Conference Center and 15-20 minutes from the Royal Mile. Great value for the price!

It was a nice , clean facility that is close to the royal mile. There are several parking spaces which was a bonus. we would return again.

My room was a little bit on the small side, but other than that it was very cozy, the bed was comfortable, and it was a nice quiet and relaxing stay. The hotel staff were all friendly and efficient. The location is slightly off the royal mile, and that was pretty nice because I was close enough to everything but also not in a noisy area. I would definitely stay there again!

great place! Very modern inside. Staff was helpful and attentive.

Dear Emily, Thank you for staying at the Edinburgh City Hotel. It is great to read that the hotel and location was perfect. I am truly sorry you felt a lack of interest displayed from our reception team, please rest assured this is not our usual standard of service as you can see from many recent reviews. I will certainly follow this up. I am glad though that one of the team members has made up for it. Hopefully we can welcome you again in the future. Kind Regards Sunny Verma General Manager
