We were impressed with the consistently high standard of service - room, reception staff, breakfast etc - we received during out two-night stay. We would stay here again. I asked in advance (as I usually do) for a quiet room on an upper floor. That is what I got. We also got a complementary bottle of water. Hotel is within four or five minutes' easy walking distance of the central attractions (cathedral etc) and main tram stops. Easily Four star (even though it is officially credited with three).
Great hotel in a great location in the centre of Ghent, this hotel does have parking though this time we did not use it. We used the tram from the train station to the centre. Staff very helpful and friendly especially the guy who checked us in. We had 2 rooms, one for 2 people and 1 for 3 people. The second bed is a pull out sofa which was fine. Our only problem was remote control had been stolen so we had to ask the cleaning lady who arranged a replacement, this came very quickly. We then went out and came back to find that the room was not made up for 3 people, towels, coffee, a pillow and quilt for the bed, it did have sheets and a thin blanket thou. As we it was late we made do so didn't ring down to reception.
We visited inbetween Christmas and New year when the Christmas markets were still on. The Christmas markets are directly outside the hotel but our room was on the other side so we didn't get any noise. We had a superior room, although I'm not sure what made it superior, everythi g seemed to be what I'd expect in a standard room and it was cramped with the fold out bed for the children. I did like the layout of the room, I've never stayed in a hotel where there is an additional internal door that closes off the bed area from the bathroom and entrance, so there was a further door to block out the noise for the hotel corridor. Breakfast was very good, I defiantly recommend the waffles.
As you enter this hotel , it’s impressive , then you get to your room , such a disappointment , they need a complete revamp especially the bathroom. Breakfast was good , reception staff very helpful , not great menu choice in restaurant , great location in city Centre
A second visit to the Novotel Gent Centrum. As previously, the hotel is fairly standard Novotel with good sized rooms for a central hotel, large and very comfortable beds. Good shower and decent wifi. A fridge is provided in the room with a complimentary bottle of water (handy for storing cheese!). Immaculately clean throughout and a pleasant place to stay. The real bonus though is the location. It is moments from the main square and the various bars/restaurants that Ghent has to offer. The hotel itself has a pleasant bar which was the ideal location for ending the evening ( I can recommend the hot chocolate). Would certainly stay again.
This hotel is perfectly located downtown, ideal if you do not travel by car. If so, please beware to book your parking spot in advance. If not, you might be forced to search for an alternative outside. I can recommend the "vrijdagmarkt" public parking, which is quite close (10 minutes walking distance), safe, comfortable, and much cheaper. The hotel parking is quite small and very narrow, it was a real nightmare for me and my big car. About the hotel itself : comfortable rooms and VERY GOOD beds, (very quiet as well on the third floor, no outside noise) but aging furniture/style. Bathroom looks renovated. Polite and helpful staff. Breakfast buffet is correct, but not exceptionnal. To put it in a nutshell : very convenient and pragmatic hotel for a short business trip, but I would not choose to do vacation here.
As a Gold card holder, I was delighted to get an early check in, along with a small welcome gift, and a voucher for two free drinks in the lovely hotel bar. Staff were welcoming from the outset, and nothing was too much trouble. Location of this property is everything, especially given the proximity of Christmas markets. Breakfast was good, my only complaint is the recent removal of Nutella from Novotel properties around Europe, replaced with a grossly inferior product.
The hotel was clean and ideally suited to a couple who want to be in the centre of the town. From the train station you can jump on a tram 1 straight to outside the hotel. There is a small fridge and the bed is king so plenty of room. The staff were really friendly and let us check in a little earlier. Only criticism was they didn’t give us any helpful info on the local area which is sometimes nice especially for tourists. Didn’t try the breakfast but there is a supermarket just down the street. Great stay. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
The team has made an effort to give us a meeting room without reservation. This is very professional and commercial. I want to thank Sabine Callens for this. The room, breakfast and dinner were also perfect! I can recommend Novotel Gent for sure.
This could be one of the best choices in Gent: Ideally located in the city center, with a well designed hotel building that combines modern and old elements. We had a junior suite that is ideal for small families, and overall, it was convenient and had all the expected features. However, there are some issues: the shower still had some spots of water from the previous inhabitant, and some baseboards of the wall were damaged or were close to falling off. These might be details, but they are indicative of a lack of quality control. Furthermore, we had a very unpleasant experience at the bar: we went there for having a long-drink, and it was half filled with a group of elderly people. So far, so good - but to our surprise, they were extremely loud, screaming and laughing like crazy, and seemed to be quite drunk. So the atmosphere was more like in a pub than in a bar. The tables were not cleaned, and empty glasses were still everywhere. Also, many tables were dirty. The two staff seemed to be totally absorbed by serving this group, and in line with this impression, the waiter did not come to our table. So I went to the bar keeper after 15 minutes or so, ordered a drink (very politely) - and to my surprise, the - obiously stressed - bar keeper said that he could not make one today (giving absolutely no explanation at all for his „inabilty“ to prepare a simple longdrink). First, I thought he was joking - the guy was obviously a bar keeper, he was standing in front of several dozen bottles of liquor, there were long drinks on the drinks menu, and the bar was not even full. Actually, it was a bizarre situation - like in a Monty Python sketch. But the guy insisted on not being able to prepare a long drink. Naturally, we left the place then. I can just speculate that he had some previous issues with that group, but still I felt that his behavior was unprofessional and odd. Again, in principle, this is a good choice in Gent, but the management really has to do something about the quality control and staff problems.
