We booked three rooms here for international guests at the university, and although I cannot attest to the rooms or the hotel itself, I can surely say that the administration of this hotel is terrible. We had given them our billing address beforehand, as the three professors staying at the hotel would stay there at our expense. We asked them to send the bill in advance or afterwards, specifically instructing them not to bill our guests. All seemed okay in advance, although they didn't send us the bill in advance -- but then, during the stay, they suddently changed our arrangement, and insisted our guests paid at check out, contrary to what had been agreed -- because suddenly they claimed that had had bad experiences with another (!) university paying bills in the past, even though they could have billed us well in advance. Not professional at all, and quite unconfortable, of course, when guests who are staying somewhere at your expense are suddenly forced to pay for their room upon departure. We complained about this, but no apology at all. Will never work with the hotel again!
Booked two nights in deluxe rooms. First night Ok. Decent room, but broken bathroom furniture. Was made to move rooms, as “other people have payed more for your room”. Ended up in poky tiny room with view of brick wall, only daylight through a skylight two floors up, and just enough room to sidle to the bed. Sewage smell only went away by having fan on continuously. Avoid this tired old dusty hotel at all costs. Location is the only plus of this dump.
Although hotel well located in centre of Ghent, the interior needs a lot of Tlc to get it up to a reasonable standard. Room very cold and when we complained, the answer was to supply us with a blanket. Seems a problem with boiler. TV channels not showing BBC 1 or 2 or any News channels. No room safe. Wifi poor.
This hotel is quite old fashioned. We had the chance to stay in very a special room. obviously the building is quite old - fits the romantic atmosphere of this magical city. Breakfast was great and so was the overall price. The hotel is located right in city center and staff was so very kind. Definitely recommend a visit to this city and a stay in this hotel.
hubby and myself stayed here for 2 nights. we enjoyed all the services the hotel has to offer-nice receptionists, excellent braekfast, a beautiful large clean room. the hotel is located in the center of the city. we loved it. you should come too.
A nice, clean hotel that is centrally located! The breakfast room and breakfast was very nice. They not only had a continental breakfast but also had scrambled eggs & bacon. My only complaint was that there was a lot of street noise till about 2 am.
Excellent ground floor room with private small yard for dog. Excellent buffet breakfast with hot and cold choices and lots of fruit and cereals. Great central location. Lovely staff. Kettle and teabags etc in room. Fridge/mini bar. The one big drawback is no parking. We left the car in a street ten minutes' walk away -the E30 parking fine was cheaper than parking lots for three days-plan your parking if you can in advance. E20 charge for dog for duration and city tax of E3 per night per person racks up the cost but one doesn't need lunch after such a big breakfast.
Months ago I booked three twin rooms for September for five nights through booking.com for which I received a confirmation. I decided to pay in full before arrival and last week phoned the hotel to organise this. They said they didn't have credit card details but it's impossible for booking.com to take the reservation without. However I sent them the credit card details by email. Then they said they only had two rooms available. Then they phoned to say it was their mistake and they confirmed the booking for three rooms and said they would take the money from my credit card. I've just phoned the hotel as no money has come off my credit card, to be told they have overbooked the hotel and have cancelled my reservation. They haven't informed me or booking.com. Neither have they apologised. The manager refused to come to the phone. What a disgraceful way to treat a customer.
Just had 2 nights here. Booked a deluxe twin room, but on arrival was presented with a slightly poky double. I pointed this out & the room was changed in 5 minutes with no fuss to exactly what we had asked for. Staff generally were very helpful throughout- helped us find a supermarket, found us a plug-in mosquito deterrent & stored our bags even after we'd checked out as we had a couple of hours before our train. Breakfast was plentiful and varied; breakfast room was a little cramped and the walls looked a bit tatty, but overall it was an enjoyable stay, helped by the friendliness and attentiveness of all the staff. Observations for others staying are to go with a can of mosquito spray (it is a city built on watercourses after all) and if you struggle with stairs, make sure you ask for a room on the side of the hotel serviced by the lift.
Excellent location, but we stayed during a very hot spell and suffered because the hotel has no air conditioning, which made sleeping very difficult. Breakfast had a full range of choices, regularly topped up by the staff. The breakfast room has some interesting bespoke wallpaper on the walls. Driving in Ghent is becoming a problem. During the last 3 or 4 months, the city elders have declared war on cars, in favour of bicycles, so have closed off many roads to vehicles, rendering your sat nav useless. On one occasion, we found a simple left turn had been closed off and we ended up on the motorway to Antwerp, forcing a lengthy return to the city!!
