A&O Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof2.5 out of 5.0

4 of us stayed for a football/culture weekend, room was a bit basic & small but it did the job, we were out most of the time and only came back to the room to sleep, and for that it was ideal. 10 minute walk to both the Hauptbahnof and Aldstadt, less to the main shopping area if that's your thing? so pretty good location wise, there's tram stops at the end of the street if you prefer to not walk. The facilities in the hotel were good, bar and lounge area's well populated, friendly and the staff were great too, nothing was too much trouble. Only negative was there wasn't enough staff on for breakfast and people were standing around waiting for things to be replenished, the 2 staff that were working seemed very stressed and tired, although they did their job professionally, it could just have been a bad weekend though? Will definitely look at staying here again next time we are in the area.
A&O Düsseldorf and hygiene are not close topics. From the bedroom to the dishes that supposed to be clean in the dining room the cleaning level was really, really low. I’m sorry to say that. The crew is not very kind and friendly. Common spaces are really noisy and there’s no one trying to keep the place liveable for guest. Breakfast very poor, from the choice to the quality of the food. I had to look for a clean dish in the “clean dishes box” quite a lot before to find a really clean one and it was quite embarrassing...
During a business trip we stayed over at A&O Düsseldorf. We could park our car without any problems. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is okay. You can expect what you pay for. We enjoyed our stay.
A budget hotel/hostel . Nothing fancy but a clean bed, clean bathroom and a very nice breakfast. The lifts... 2 people and 2 suitcases and you pray it doesn't breakdown . Can recommend for a night or two.
Me and my friends stayed here for a few nights in July for a lads wknd. It's our second visit to the hotel as its cheap and cheerful. The hotels about 35 minutes from the town centre and 15 minutes from the train station. When we were there they had a huge fair on in the city, its amazing and id definitely recommend it for the food and beer alone. Great stay and were definitely going again 'that's livin alright' !!!!!!!!
We stayed one night in this hotel because a friend recommendation. We had a terrible night: the TV set turned on by itself, one window got open by itself, when we were trying to sleep, we heard an intense breath and in the morning my daughter had finger marks on her legs turning in bruises and she appeared almost out of bed, as if she had been pulled. Another girl had severe pains in arms and wrists and also we heard a tumult of people that seems to be there, making a lot of noise. Down stairs also at the women rest roomsa door was closed tightly for no reason. When we arrived, there were also one girl disconsolately crying, in a way to draw attention and she finally run out from the hotel.
stayed for 2 nights at the ao hostel in dusseldorf in a dorm for 6 for 6 of us. the beds basically consisted of 3 bunks for 2 people. the bunks had rubber mattresses and one large pillow and a single thin duvet with no sheet on the rubber mattress so you basically had to sleep on the thin duvet to cover the sticky rubber mattress. If all you want is a room to sleep in and shower (which we did) this place is passable. but don't expect any frills because you wont get any. I previously stayed at the ao in Hamburg and found it much better. That said if you are on a budget and want to see Dusseldorf it is in the city centre and within reasonable walking distances of Alstadt (old town) and the riverside (Rhine) so if budget is what you want this place is an option.
£1300 was taken from my account for a stay that I cancelled. Only £1250 was refunded. Money still missing from account and unresolved. Christin Fehrmann from the company has been unsympathetic and unhelpful. A terrible company to deal with.
Firstly, the location says 'Hauptbahnhof'. I think that a lot of German hotels and hostels have a loose understanding of what it means to be called 'Hauptbahnhof'. It's not a long, long way but it is about 1km and the quickest route takes you through one of the rougher bits of Dusseldorf. Take a tram if you can. Very basic as A&O always are. Put your own sheets on, take them off when you leave, decent enough shower, windows that opened fully By far the most no-frills hostel I stayed in on my long trip. If you can stay in a Meininger instead they tend to be a bit nicer.
The hotel was exactly what it said it was. It offered Hostel quality accommodation within the privacy of hotel rooms. It was clean, comfortable enough and very well priced. We stayed for three nights with a family of four for less than 175 euro. You cant get much cheaper than that. The communal areas were well kept and comfortable and there was a bar that served a decent selection of drinks and snacks. The areas of Dusseldorf we were interested in were an easy 10 minute walk away, as was the train station so the hotel was well situated without being slap bang in the middle of town. The only complaint we had, and this will sound a bit daft but did cause an annoying problem, was the light switch that was situated just above mattress height on the bottom bunk. Every time our daughter moved she switched the lights on! Sudden bright light doesn't usually help me get a good nights sleep and this time was no different. It just seemed a strange place for a light switch.
