Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel

We stayed at the Lacroma during September 2017 as a couple and overall we enjoyed our stay. We found the hotel to be clean, airy and relaxing. Our room was well appointed, which had a large bed and fabulous views across the Adriatic. There had been a few minor niggles with the first room we were allocated and we were switched without fuss and I'm grateful to the staff for being so accommodating. Upon arrival the hotel was fairly empty which made for a relaxed and peaceful first few days, however the tour parties started arriving midweek and the place soon filled up! The buffet restaurant is ok, the food is pretty average and while there is a lot of choice you will soon tire of it which is all just a variation on the same theme frankly. By midweek you are being elbowed from all angles by energetic OAP's edging for a plate of hot ham! In the end you can't wait to get out of there. A note on the restaurant staff here; they are brilliant, hardworking, polite, friendly and endlessly accommodating. Just because the food is all the same is not their fault. I made use of the spa facilities and treated myself to a massage. You can really relax at this hotel and we both sunk ourselves into some serious R&R. But that's about it i'm afraid, there is nothing else much to do on this small peninsula, so after a while it becomes slightly claustrophobic. Sure there are artificial gravel beaches to stroll to, a bus to Dubrovnik old Town to catch and a weird, dated looking shopping arcade that has a few bars in it. The place lacks some decent restaurants, so you are left vying for position at the buffet with your plate in hand and muttering under your breath as Maureen from Margate mops up the last of the mousse! Lapad is a dull little town with little to offer and Dubrovnik Old Town is an overcrowded tourist trap. The best place we found was a boat trip to Cavtat which was lovely little gem of a harbour town and a diverting afternoon with plenty of restaurant choices. I couldn't conclude this review without a special mention of the cold plunge pool which masquerades as a swimming pool. For whatever reason they choose not to heat it and it allows you to experience a chilling dip while you attempt to catch your breath and regain your composure. It's nice to look at but don't go in.

Checked in tonight found the service excellent, rooms clean and comfortable. We were able to order pillows to suit our requirement from th Eier pillow menu was an added benefit. Buffet had a huge choice of offerings from fish, meat, vegetarian and sweets.

Stayed here for 3 nights on a tour of Croatia. The hotel is a fair distance away from old Dubrovnik but there is an excellent bus service straight into town. Very comfortable bedroom with views over the sea. Perfect for watching the sun go down in the evenings. Being a large hotel and with our room being at the very end of the corridor we had a long walk to reach reception and further again downstairs to the dining room. The dining room always had tables available but sometimes we had to wait for them to be cleared. There is an extensive buffet menu for both breakfast and evening meals providing anything you could wish for. There is also a cooking station providing freshly cooked food. There are a number of small beaches if you are prepared to walk a fair distance but the hotel provides a very nice pool area to relax in.

Gorgeous hotel. At first it feels really big but you soon get to know your way around. The whole place is spotless. The gym and indoor pool are amazing. The outdoor pool area and view, especially during sunset, are spectacular. Restaurant is good, we were half board, but more vegetarian choice would be welcome. Good to see soy and rice milk at breakfast. My only mark down is that one night we were asked to go to the other restaurant in the hotel where there were live lobsters in a tank with their claws tied together. This really made me sad - please don't do this. It's barbaric!!

Nice rooms. Decent location, though not on the beach. Problem was with meal times... Huge dining room with stations of food. Tables too close together and the acoustics were awful. When the Chinese groups came in, it was like the locusts had descended. They touched everything but I guess someone in those groups would snatch it up eventually anyway. The noise was deafening. So after a great day exploring Dubrovnik, one would find themselves in a noisy, crowded dining room where it was impossible to enjoy the food at a relaxing pace. Go to dinner/breakfast a little later than the start time and maybe some of them have cleared out and the poor staff have had a chance to replenish food.

We booked the Argosy, but they decided to close early so we were changed to the Lacroma before we went. We viewed the hotel web site and thought it looked ok but on arrival we were confronted with 1600 delegates meeting at the hotel, we had'nt noticed it was a conference centre as well. On arrival we were very quickly and efficiently checked in, the reception staff were excellent. Later on in the week I had a problem with my email it was sorted very quickly and without them making me feel like an idiot which very often happen's in hotels. The Lobby bar staff were also excellent very pleasant nothing was too much trouble for them they laughed and joked with us all. Our bedroom's were always cleaned and restocked everyday. The only negative was the catering staff, they cleared our table before we had finished but left the table next to us piled with plates the whole time we were eating. Breakfast was till 10am but if you got down a bit near 10am you were very rushed, when you are on holiday a leisurely breakfast is something you look forward to. There was only one toaster which only cooked one side of the bread surely a large hotel could run to more than one toaster. On a positive note the breakfast was excellent, the choice was fantastic well cooked some item's cooked to order. Unfortunately we requested a packed breakfast for an early trip we went on, this was abysmal 3half slices of bread with palma/ serrano type ham lettuce and mayo very dry, 1bag of pretzal's 1 choc wafer bar an apple and a small bottle of water. Considering the choice for breakfast everyday this was totally lacking in every way.

The hotel is located at the other end of the city far from old city but near bus station that takes you there directly , the hotel is very clean ,bathroom too , breakfast is wide variety , beach is 10 mints walk , outdoor and indoor swimming pools are some wonderful in the hotel , green surroundings lovely to walk

Hotel in quiet area with good transport link to Dubrovnik. It is quite expensive though.£10 a gin & tonic £5 for a beer!!! Hotel is aimed at business really and not holiday makers. Dining can be very busy at times and you have to find your own table,a bottle of house wine is expensive too

This hotel is huge. It really is like a cruise ship on land. Long hallways, loud dining, and stacked tiered rooms. The restaurant and bar staff were rude and indifferent. The excursion desk was friendly, helpful and went out of there way. This won't be my choice for my next stay in Dubrovnik.

Just back from a 10 night stay at this hotel. It’s pools are fantastic and with easy access to the beach. Staff are lovely especially Franka and Dubravka in reception. Only negatives for us was - Drinks are very expensive for a 4 star. The bar food was not good for such a nice hotel. Buffet was only ok, nothing amazing. Unfortunately the food let this hotel down for us, but we all agreed that as staff were so nice and good location we would visit again, and give the food another chance 😀
