Tirena Hotel

My husband and I have just come back from a weeks stay at the Tirena Hotel for our Honeymoon. We think the hotel upgraded us as we ended up with a lovely room with a balcony with a spectacular view which was a pleasure to wake up to every morning! The Tirena is a lovely, clean, tidy hotel with everything we required. The staff are all friendly and helpful and the service is excellent. The rooms are basic, but had everything we needed and the beds were comfy. Infact, the room had a very high ceiling and floor to ceiling length sliding doors/curtains which made it feel quite luxurious actually. The food was of good quality and they had a wide variety of choices to suit everyone’s tastes. The bar and Pool bar area serve snacks and drinks during the day time if you’re not venturing outside of the hotel grounds. Copacabana beach is a few minutes walk from the hotel and has a really chilled, relaxed vibe about it. The hotel is located in a quiet, pleasant area which really appealed to us. You can catch a bus into the Old Town (No. 6) from the main road just a short walk from the hotel and we didn’t wait longer than 5 minutes for a bus. Just be warned – they do like to fit as many people onto the bus as they can. We usually got a seat on the way there, but returning was a bit of a squash at times! There are lots of lovely cats roaming around the grounds of the hotel which, me being an animal lover, I really enjoyed giving them a bit of fuss after dinner and breakfast. The pool area is lovely and well maintained. The staff are all really nice and it was never over crowded when we were there. There were 2 days when water aerobics took place and although we were asked one occasion, we were never pushed or pestered whatsoever. There is a small shopping area behind the hotel with an ATM, a couple of restaurants, mini-marts and clothes shops. We were probably one of the youngest couples staying in the hotel. I think the hotel must cater for group / coach holidays as half way through our stay the hotel had a huge influx of people arrive and it meant that on 2 evenings at the end of our stay we struggled to find a seat at dinner. On one occasion we had to return an hour later and on another occasion some people decided to sit on our table with us! However, before this the dinner hall had been fairly quiet and nice each evening. Overall I was really impressed with everything at this hotel and it was exactly what we wanted from our holiday. I would definitely recommend  the Tirena and the Valamar chain for anyone wanting to stay in Dubrovnik. Many thanks for a lovely holiday!

Just back from 10 days at this hotel with my husband and 2 grown up children (24 & 21) We arrived mid-morning and our rooms were already cleaned and ready for us. They were next to each other (I had emailed them and requested this). We paid extra for a balcony with a 'park' view. Park was more of a garden/tree view - without the supplement we might have been looking out on to a car park or the side of a building. Sea view rooms are available for an extra charge but we don't tend to spend much time in our rooms so didn't choose this option when booking. The fully-carpeted room was perfect. There was a dressing table with mirror and a chair, 1 comfy chair and side table and 2 bedside tables. The balcony had the usual white plastic table and 2 chairs with a small pull-out gadget for drying washing (very useful). There was a rather old-fashioned TV but we never it switched it on. Also a mini-bar - we emptied this so we could put our own drinks and milk in the fridge. If you like a cuppa, take your own travel kettle. They also provided a decent hairdryer. The safe and air-con were included in the price too. The bathroom was very good - quite big by hotel standards, lovely hot water and towels changed whenever you needed them. They provided shower gel, soap and body lotion. The breakfasts were pretty amazing - freshly cooked eggs, bacon, sausages, omelettes and pancakes. There was a vast choice of bread, croissants, etc. Ham, cheese and other salad items, Cereals, seeds and fresh fruit. Coffee was served to you at the table but you could get yourself a pot of tea (vast choice of tea bags). Jugs of milk were provided for each table too. All restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly. We decided that a number of guests seemed to be there for around 3/4 days as part of a tour stop-off, as a result, for us between 4th -14th Sept, the pool was fairly quiet. We always managed to get 4 sun loungers (they each have their own facial sun shade) - none of the early morning rush. You get fresh towels from the desk by the pool - collect a towel card in reception before you go. The snack restaurant serves the usual fayre - burgers, club sandwiches, chips etc but you can get freshly made pancakes at the swim-up bar- delicious. We asked to have lemon/sugar rather than chocolate or marmalade! We booked a couple of trips through the hotel's own excursion company - Perfect Experience Creator - the desk is situated in reception. Marko Pavkovic, who usually mans the desk was very helpful and honest about the trips. (we booked sea kayaking and the 3 island boat trip) He even managed to book us a fantastic table at Panorama Restaurant at the top of the cable car despite it being originally fully-booked. Nearby (you can see them from the dining room) there are a small number of restaurants and shops selling the all-important beach shoes and lilos as well as souvenirs, water, crisps etc. To venture into Dubrovnik you can get a bus (No.6) from the stop at the hotel entrance. Buy the tickets in the hotel shop (HRK 12 each way (abt £1.50) they are HRK 15 if you buy them on the bus. Get a No.5 to go to the cable car. You can buy a 1,3 or 7 day travel card if you want to go round the old walls - includes travel, wall walk and entrance to some museums. To walk into Lapad (about 20 mins) -t here are more restaurants, bars and shops here - head down some steps to Levanat restaurant (seems odd to walk between the outside tables but everyone does) - there is a coastal walk from here all the way into Lapad. Along the way pop into the Cave Bar (More restaurant). A very unusual setting if you like looking at stalactites while sipping on your beer/cocktail. Croatia is not a cheap destination - pizza was about £10 and steak around £25. Chicken dishes were a bit cheaper £15 ish. Beer was around £4.50/£5 for half a litre. Cocktails were around £10. BEACH SUN BEDS - the cheapest we found were on Copacabana Beach HRK 70 (£10) (bed and cushion) Cava Beach HRK 180 (bed towel and umbrella) and Valamar Beach at the Hotel Valamar President Beach HRK 210 (2 beds 1 umbrella and a cushion). My husband collated these prices and as we only went on the Copacabana Beach, I can't confirm the rest! Overall we had a fabulous holiday and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Although the rooms are extremely old and need to be refurbished the staff were friendly enough. There was no concierge and the room was a long way from reception. This is a very large hotel with tiled hallways in concrete corridors and everything echoed throughout the building day and night. The cleaning staff were very loud each morning and as the resort seems to be designed with families in mind, there are children running throughout the complex but I'm not sure where their parents get to at times like these. Probably not for couples, more for tour groups and families. It has a kids club but we never saw it open when we were there 01 Sep - 07 Sep 2107.

The hotel is extremely beautiful and is part of the Valamar Group (Valamar Hotels and Resorts). The room we had (#271) was spacious, very modern, clean and had a beautiful view of the lush green courtyard. The bathroom was also very large and was heated as well. The hotel is huge and quite a sprawl, so it was quite a walk from the main reception desk and restaurant. The rooms also come with an equipped safe and have a kettle to make tea/coffee and free wifi. The breakfast spread was huge and the quality of the food was great! Staff are very helpful, polite and attentive. Also know that if you have any day excursions you can notify the front receptionist and they will pack a free breakfast meal bag for you to take with you (they gave us a sandwich, fruit, small bottle of water and some pretzel sticks - per person). But you need to tell them the previous day before 6pm. Even though we were initially worried that it seemed to be so far away from the old city center of Dubrovnik - its actually extremely easy to go by the city bus there. The bus stop is literally right across the hotel entrance and you catch the bus (bus no.6) and that takes you in 7mins directly infront of the entrance of the old city. (from there its anyway a pedestrian zone so thats the furthest you could have come). The buses also operate from early morning all the way to 2am, and are super safe and convenient. Overall the hotel was a great value for money, with excellent amenities, rooms and great service! We stayed there for 3 nights and 4 days; and will definitely stay there when we decide to come again!!

A lovely hotel in a great location in Bubin Kuk - quiet and peaceful PROS Good size room with a good bathroom Large breakfast buffet with food to suit all Buffet dinner avaiable each night again with a big choice Staff friendly and helpful in all areas Nice outside terrace for sitting and service very good Large pool with plenty of sun chairs and a lovely swim up bar On bus line 6 wth the bus stop at the top of the drive. The buses are frequent and go to Pile gate, the Old Town. An arcade/small mall with souvenir shops, mini marts, restaurants and cafes. This was great as it is right next to the hotel and one had a choice between eating at the hotel or closeby. Two good beaches a short walk away. CONS - very minor The sheer curtain in my room was torn and needs replacing. Mattresses are softer than I like - on the one twin bed the mattress needs replacing The sun lounges were not the most comfortable and the food available at the pool cafe is rather limited and in my books a little expensive for what you get. WIFI a bit limited in the room. Great at the pool though.

Lovely clean hotel, run very efficiently. Restaurant food was excellent, even for my vegan wife, who was made food on request by the friendly chefs when choice was limited. Beautifully clean pool, also run very efficiently. Rooms were very basic, but who spends long in their hotel room when they are on holiday? Checking in process was simple, as was checking out. Cheap, regular bus to Dubrovnik old town, which was amazing. My only complaint (hence the 4 stars, not 5) was that this was out 20th wedding anniversary trip and despite several emails organising something special and also going to the front desk to remind them, nothing special happened. I was promised complimentary wine and fruit and perhaps a sea view. None of those promises materialised.

Nice middle class type hotel with good pool and nice poolbar. Rooms are ok but clean and the bathrooms are renovated. Good dinner every night and various brekfast. Near excellent two beaches. Like 8km away from dubrovnik. Foodmarket is near. Greate place for a relaxing easy and silent beach holiday. Wifi good be better. We visited the place in august 2015 and could come back for the food!

This is a wonderful hotel. It is definitely a 3 star plus. A little gem, I was amazed by just how good it was. It looks just like the photos you see on the website. It’s in a great location by the sea. The rooms are large, clean and very cool. Staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing with so much choice. If you decide to eat in the hotel for dinner there is a wonderful buffet with hot and cold foods with plenty of choice, even for a vegetarian like me. They cook something different every day. There are shops and restaurants located around the hotel. There are lots of mosquitos around so make sure you take some sort of repellent. The pool is a decent size with a pool bar. The pool wasn’t very busy when I was there in August so it was quite nice. The beaches are all rocky with pebbles so take appropriate shoes to wear in the water. We took an UBER from the airport. You get 15minuties free Wifi from the airport so just be aware if your taking an UBER. An UBER cost us 180 Kuna from the airport. If you take a taxi, expect to pay 300 Kuna. The hotel is located very close to the bus stop and it’s very safe and easy to get to the old town. Take the number 6 bus, it comes every 10 minutes. It will cost you 15 Kun. You can also walk for two bus stops to a street full of restaurants. This also leads to a wonderful walk way by the sea. I really enjoyed my time here it’s a wonderful place. You can get the cable car from just outside the Old town. The views are amazing. You can visit Trsteno Arboretum by bus. It’s a beautiful garden with a stunning fountain. Take the number 7 bus from just outside the hotel to the last bus stop. This will cost you 15 Kuna. From the bus station across the road catch the number 12 bus to Trsteno. This will cost you 16 Kuna. The bus gives you stunning views of the coast. Ask the bus driver where to get off. Look for a very large tree. The hotel can give you times for the bus to plan your journey. We also took the three island boat trip. This took us to some lovely scenic laces. Well worth doing. Lunch is included as part of the trip. Wifi was great, a good reception from anywhere in the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

I had 1 night in Dubrovnik on my way out of town and was looking for a great hotel, pool, and easy access to food, taxis, etc. as I was on my own. I arrived via bus and had to take a taxi which cost 100 kuna and then had to set up a taxi to the airport the following morning, another 300 kuna. I felt these were over priced and wish the hotel had something set up for transportation. The room was fine - bathroom in particular was updated and clean. I did enjoy the pool for a short while and saw they had characters in costume there to entertain the children. I 100% enjoyed the buffet dinner (paid extra) and free buffet breakfast. It was amazing to see such a variety of delicious foods and I really was impressed. By the way, they claimed to have free wifi but it didn't work. I went to the front desk and they apologized but it was not working for anyone. I had similar experiences all across Croatia so it really wasn't a big deal. My issue that kept me from giving that 5th star was the location for what I needed.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon while travelling Croatia. It is a 10 min bus ride to the old town or a quick uber but it's nice to get away from all the chaos and business when relaxing. The swim up pool bar is amazing and Neven the bartender was so friendly and made it enjoyable giving us recommendations and chatting with us. Clean nice rooms. We had an amazing view which I think they gave us because it was our honeymoon! Breakfast and dinner buffets were great....I really enjoyed the variety of food. Only downfall was the wifi in the rooms wasn't the greatest (but worked everywhere else okay) but everything else was fantastic! Recommend!
