This was our first visit to Croatia and this hotel choice was wonderful. It was exactly what we were looking for. The hotel is situated by the beach and in the small town of Lapad. Very convenient for restaurants ,bars and shops without walking too far. It was also near the local bus stop where you can get the No 6 bus to the old town of Dubrovnik . The design and furnishings of the Kompas Hotel were beautiful. It is a four star deluxe hotel but as good as some 5 star hotels we have visited . We had a sea-view with a great balcony overlooking the bay on the 5th floor. The room was compact and well appointed. Not an overly large room but we were very happy . Our booking was on a breakfast only basis as we enjoy visiting various restaurants while we are on holiday . Breakfast was excellent with everything you could desire there for you . The dining room was welcoming, bright and airy. There is a large outside dining area if you prefer to eat 'al fresco ' The pool area was never overly busy .Sun beds were always available or the hotel has a selected private beach area for their guests. I recommend you wear beach/swim shoes when going to the beach as it's a pebbled beach. We will certainly return to Dubrovnik and revisit this hotel in the near future.

Everything is great from staff to cleanliness all the way to the awesome location///if you would just add more varieties to the food menu. I highly recommend this hotel either family, couples or solo thsi is the place to be

The hotel is immaculate, food is lovely ( breakfast is so varied & fresh), drinks are great especially cocktails from Zenith roof bar. Staff were lovely and friendly. Towels provided at pool bar and a small action of beach, can get beds and umbrellas with no issues. Our room was great, maids cleaned every day & dropped some chocolates off every night for us. The only slightly negative points were balcony, great size but looked onto some sort of roof from our room which wasn't great and at certain points in the day there was a bad sewage smells from the drains in bathroom. Bed & pillows were comfortable and wifi connection was perfect! I would suggest that seen as it's in high 30's temperature wise in august that there is facility to store water chilled as the fridge was filled with overpriced drinks & snacks. The location is stunning, Lapad is beautiful. If you take a right coming outside the restaurant & walk the path it takes you to copacabana beach in about 15 mins, the views leading to it are stunning. Dubrovnik old town 10 minutes on bus, get number 6 bus "babin kuk" it costs 15 kuna (about £2) on the bus but 12 kuna if you buy from kiosk across the road from bus stop. The old town is a must, beautiful! Lots of amazing restaurants and bars. Do a boat trip! It's a must!

Just returned from this beautiful hotel. I cannot fault it and I am much travelled. The reception on arrival was very welcoming and helpful. Our room was delightful and kept spotless by the domestic staff. We didn't pay extra for a sea view room, but perhaps I would next time? The breakfast service was perfect, seated outside for the early morning sun or inside in the spotless restaurant. Food was very good and very fresh. For anyone with a cat phobia, rare I knew, you do get cats wandering outside the restaurant, so advice is to stay inside. There are a fair few cats wandering the streets outside and one even ventured upstairs in a restaurant, so word of warning if anyone else has, such a phobia! The outdoor pool is fairly small, but very clean ,with room to swim. It's fairly cold at first, but after swimming a length or so, you soon warm up. It has a great view of the bay. No major rush for Sun beds ,although some people are too lazy to remove their towels to the box provided and therefore it's unclear whether some beds, are occupied. A lovely shaded area with sofas and the pool bar again offers great service. The lunches are huge. We shared a toasted sandwich , served with fries. Good value. The restaurant buffet is really good value and cheaper and better value than nearby restaurants, many of which are over priced . Atlantic restaurant, near the main entrance to the hotel was quaint, but the hotel food was cheaper and far better value. Hotel spa and Indoor pool looked lovely, Kathie didn't use this or the gym facilities. Rooftop bar was very relaxing with panoramic views. Beer is roughly £5 a pint, cocktails are £6. I found Dubrovnik very expensive so beware. The hotel area of Lapad varies in price, but some restaurants offered poor value for money . Very decent sports type bar near hotel which is £2.50 a pint . Dubrovnik itself is beautiful and a must see. Easy bus from the top of the promenade road where bars and restaurants end. 15 kunas each way. Game of Thrones tour with walking tours was very good. 200 kunas for two hour tour. Thomson did a walk and relax Montenegro tour, which visited Kotor, Budva and Tibet Riviera. Very good tour and beautiful places. Beware various queues at the border, average an hour each way,but can be much longer! This was an excellent value trip lasting 12 hours @ 320 kunas. Overall I couldn't fault this hotel and the staff were exemplary. I would certainly recommend Hotel Kompas.

The rooms are new, large and clean. The hotel is located at the end of a main pedestrian path which is set up for tourists (you can eat, drink, book boats etc.) and is in front of the main city beach. Restaurant is excellent and has seating along the sea wall. Reasonably close to the Old Town (15 mins by bus 4, less by taxi) and is very comfortable. I would recommend not getting Room 501. Its a great room but the balcony is on a foot path (stairs) so you need to keep the shades drawn for privacy (its rather an active foot path). It also means the rooms that are #01 do not face anything attractive.

We stayed at the Hotel Kompas between 7th-11th August 2017. Check in was efficient and our room was ready early-which is always nice after a flight. However after unpacking, we proceeded to the outside swimming pool area and were very disappointed to discover that it was very small for the size of the hotel with no sunbeds available. The pool itself is also small and with many guests using inflatables, there was no room to swim. The hotel does have a section of the beach but this is not widely publicised. Similar to another reviewer we found the music from the Sunset Beach Bar rather monotonous when you are trying to relax and read on the beach. We were staying on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast buffet was very good with all the usual items included in a European buffet. We ate dinner in the Sphere Restaurant one night which was of a very good standard. Our deluxe seaview room on the 9th Floor was in keeping with a 5* hotel but a bath would have been nice. Overall I would recommend the hotel but I think the hotel need to monitor guests reserving sunbeds around the pool area who do not use them for most of the day. Also, given the size of the pool, think about banning inflatables.

We had a fabulous week at Hotel Kompas, we travelled with our two grown up daughters and the hotel suited us perfectly. The rooms were fab, a good size with lovely bathrooms, immaculately clean and very modern. The breakfast was extensive and the staff were very helpful. The location is perfect with restaurants down the road, and a fab gelato shop next door to the hotel!

This is a very stylish hotel which certainly impresses when you first arrive, beautifully decorated, serene and sophisticated ambience with stunning views from the reception area across the bay. It is a spotlessly clean hotel and smells like an expensive spa. The fittings are all of a high standard and there is a great sense that the management taking pride in how the hotel is presented. We had 2 sea-view rooms on the third floor and they were, as with the rest of the hotel, very well appointed. Again, immpecably cleaned on a daily basis with regular changes of bed linen and towels. Our stay was on a bed and breakfast basis and this was a very pleasant experience, plenty of choice and would imagine enough to please most. The staff at the hotel are very efficient and pleasant, some more 'smiley' than others but we have nothing but compliments for their attentive manner. The hotel really feels very 5* but the only issue we can see is that the pool area is a bit squeezed. There are some 170+ rooms at the hotel and we stayed in July/August so the hotel was at capacity, they have crammed in 80 or so sun-beds (yes I did count them !) which leaves little space to move around. Also the pool itself, whilst having a lovely view over the bay, is also a bit small. When we stayed the area was experiencing some seriously hot weather, many want to be able to dip into the pool and cool off, so it could get a bit crowded. There is a lovely indoor pool too but with such glorious weather and views why would you want to be inside? Thankfully on the nearby beach (all noisy work now complete, just cosmetic work going on now) the hotel have reserved a number of beds and sun umbrellas at no cost to the residents which is a huge benefit as sun beds are being charged at 140 kn per bed per day that works out quite a bit for a family of 4. We do hope the hotel continue to offer this benefit to residents as it is where we parked ourselves most days as we are not the type to be reserving sun-beds by the pool. It is not a massive problem and the hotel have signs discouraging this but its just one of those holiday pool gripes. We loved our cocktails in the evening at the Zenith Bar it really has a beautiful view and you can catch the setting sun too, yes they may be a tad pricey but the surroundings are so elegant, its sort of worth it. We also ate at the Sphere restaraunt and the food was very good, it is best to reserve a table here so you can enjoy a table next to the water. The hotel also has nightly entertainment but not at all 'tacky', very sophisticated and varied types of music, its not at all intrusive and it is at street level, so plenty of other areas to go and sit if you don't want to listen to it. The area in which the Kompas is in is very busy no traffic just other holiday makers coming into the area for food of an evening or trying the new bars on the newly created Sunset Beach - which are quite stylish. We do hope that the Sunset Beach Bars are requested to keep their music toned down during the day as it is a bit loud if you just want to sun bathe and read a book and it is also very repetative and just a bit of an assault on the senses all day long. Hopefully they can be persuaded by the hotel to turn this down or play some more varied music during the day, as the hotels sun-beds are right beside this new bar. All facilities on the beach are exceptional; showers, toilets, which were very clean whilst we were there and you are only a 5 minute stroll back onto the hotel grounds with no cars to deal with. The hotel is also very well situated to get into the stunning Old Town of Dubrovnik, bus stops a short walk away but we chose to take a cab as there was 4 of us and it cost 80kn and you didn't have to cram onto the busses. So why have went given the hotel 5 stars ? 1) Upon arrival the welcoming could have been a bit better, it was super efficient and things were reeled off, but no 'how was your journey?', 'please go to the bar for a refreshment', that sort of thing. We arrived early so our room wasn't available and just a little extra attention would have been the icing on the cake. 2) The size of the pool and the squeezing in of too many sun-beds. It really is a beautiful hotel if we could have selected 4.5 out of 5 we would have.

Just back from a weeks holiday at Hotel Kompas. Beautiful, modern and spotlessly clean. Wonderful views from our seaview room. I had been worried prior to our holiday that work being done on the beach wouldn't be finished. It is, and the beach is fantastic, very clean and right outside the hotel. Plenty of sun beds and beach towels for hotel guests. I'm not usually a beach person, but the only very slight negative about Kompas was that the pool area is very small, so we stopped trying to get a sun bed and just went to the beach. Staff all very polite and helpful. Buffet breakfast was very good with loads of choice. Rooms cleaned daily and fresh bottle of water supplied daily. Nice touch that each evening a member of staff would come to your room to check all was well and handed in chocolates. Would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to go back in the future.

I just had to write a review for this hotel why is it not a 5 star i have stayed all over the world and this hotel is up there ,firstly the staff are exceptional on all level to the ladies who clean your roommate restaurant staff etc, I must say when ever we say Ana whether in a morning at breakfast of poolside she always had a glowing smile she is a credit to your hotel. The hotel is spotlesly clean and smells lovely, we were there in August and never had a problem getting a bed around the pool morning or afternoon the food at poolside is of a high quality, we went bed and breakfast but decided to eat alcarte menu as food was great and also the staff.Loved the chocolate every night was a great touch, our rooms were fabulous and very quite at night. the glass window in reception is amazing. We had a couple of cocktails every night lovely. We hired a speed boat for the day through Dubrovnik boat rental,s amazing reviews worth every penny and also did buggy safari at top of lift in Dubrovnik so much fun we travelled with two young adult of university age they also loved the place especially the spa area. Can'y rate this hotel highly enough it is incredible thank you Hotel Kompas will be back one day
