A very new, contemporary, clean, efficient hotel I dont have any experience of other Croatian hotels, so difficult to judge the standards compared to others but I would have thought this one is in the top listing. As per other TA advisor reviews, the cosmetics of the hotel are perfect, lovely calm interior design in good taste. Fabulous roof terrace for sun downers, calm pool area with no loud music :-) Nice rooms good size balconies comfortable beds etc etc. The staff are good, polite, they try and please. The surroundings are quiet and right on the wonderful coastal walk and next to the beach. 30 min from airport, 10 min by taxi to the old city, costs 110. My only thoughts are be careful what type of room you book. There is one part of the hotel where all floors face the beach - see room 902 -906 in attached photo and the photo of the front of the hotel On the other two wings, only floors 10 down to 8 have any view at all ( wall in picture below is in front of floor 8 and 7 on one side wing, second picture shows other side wing with the wall in front). If you dont need a view, you still get sun on the balconies as these mostly face south. There is one other type of room that faces the side, which has no view and v little sun, that is the cheapest room, i think there is only one of these per floor. Tomislav, Dobroslav and Tamara need to be commended to the hotel management for their service.
This is a nice hotel but a poor experience because of the loud music that continually plays outside. Our air conditioning was not working in the room ( reception told us they switch it off in October!!) so we had to have the balcony door open. The music plays from morning until 2 am on a loop. Not relaxing at all. On check out we did tell the reception our views but this was mostly dismissed and they could not really care less. Other staff in the hotel were very nice.
But best of all is the location just by the Lopud bay. Just take the elevator to the bortom floor and step out on the beach. Not to close to the vivid Dubrovnik, still not to far away for daily visits in the Beautiful city.
Stayed at Hotel Kompas for 2 weeks. It's a very modern and up to date hotel. What really makes it special is the staff. Absolutely amazing service from everyone. Tomislav (Tomi), Barbara and the other reception people were always happy to help. Tomi is overflowing with recommendations and ideas. Our thanks to him for organising the bottle of 'bubbles' on the day of our wedding anniversary. We mentioned it when asking for restaurant recommendations and it was a lovely surprise. We had room 1003 on the top floor. The hotel is upside down- you come in on floor 10 from the road. Being on this floor was lovely as we had the most amazing views. The room was comfortable, especially the beds. Just be aware if you ask for a double you will get 2 singles, made up as single beds and pushed together. The room was kept spotlessly clean and everything kept well stocked. In the restaurant it's the same attention to detail and helpfulness. Especial thanks to Nikola, Nada, Meljenko and Dobroslav (Rasho). Sadly I can't put everyone's names so these are the ones we had the most to do with. The standard of service throughout was excellent. We found the a la carte menu a bit lacking in variety and it never changes. We did find that we could swap things, like change spinach risotto for potatoes etc. Also the dessert menu from lunch could be called on in the evenings for a bit more variety. I would recommend though that the restaurant look at maybe having a special dish some nights or putting on more buffets to make it more varied. I’m sure the kitchen staff must get bored stupid always cooking the same things and that’s when standards start to slip. Here’s a little but…. There appears to be a bit of a lack of communication between kitchen and waiting staff which can mean food comes out luke warm or cold. From past experience I would assume each blames the other. Actually it’s about working together not blaming each other. I also think that the kitchen staff don’t really work as a team. Several times my meal took a lot less cooking time that my husband’s. Result was my meal arrived already going cold while his was hot. Clearly a lack of attention to making sure they finished cooking together rather than just starting everything cooking at the same time. On a similar note can the management please get rid of the totally useless ceramic ‘hot’ plates and invest in something that will allow the hot breakfast option to be just that – hot and not cold. One morning I put my hand flat down on the ceramic surface. It was warm but no way could it have kept food hot. I gave up all hope of anything hot as I don’t eat eggs and these were the only things being freshly cooked. It’s only a little criticism and in no way put us off the hotel. We really couldn’t have been looked after any better. Overall I would thoroughly recommend Hotel Kompas. Bear in mind it is more a business and conference hotel than holiday resort so if you are travelling with children don’t expect lots of child friendly activities. I would definitely go back.
We chose this hotel because it was highly rated, seemed well-priced and was not in the middle of the touristy part of town. The architecture is quite interesting- you enter on the top floor and the rooms are all on lower floors built into a hill. Our suite was large, well appointed, and had a nice view. We did not take advantage of many of the amenities such as the spa and beach. Breakfast was included in the price and was quite varied
The hotel is very nice, the rooms very comfortable and the restaurant (sphere) is very good and good price. It has exit to the promenade, and the view to the sea is beautiful Is about 10 minutes away by bus to the old town.
Opened in 2015 with 175 bedrooms, most have a sea view as it's built on a hillside. Credit to the designers and builders who have created a perfect hotel which is well run by pleasant staff.. My only grumble was that the breakfast didn't match up to the quality of the hotel.
We only had 3 nights and 2 days in Dubrovnik, so we really had little time to enjoy the hotel's setting on Lapad Bay, as we wanted to see King's Landing (aka Old Town), and explore some of the surrounding islands. Had we had more time in Dubrovnik (which, in retrospect, we wish we had), staying here would have made more sense for us. The layout takes a little getting used to. You enter on the 10th (top) floor, where the reception desk is located. The guest rooms are located on floors 2 through 9, and the restaurant, bar, indoor pool, spa, etc. are on the two lowest floors (0 & 1). That layout is necessitated by the terrain, as the hotel goes down a steep drop from the street to the sea. Our room was on the 8th floor, had a small balcony, and a wonderful view of the bay. The furnishings were not to my taste, but they were comfortable and functional. I guess different people have different experiences, but unlike one review I read, I found the front desk to be extremely helpful, and, unlike another review, I found the service in the restaurant to be very substandard. We arrived after dark on our first night, and, therefore, had dinner in the restaurant. The food was alright, but the service was terrible. As for the breakfast buffet service, it certainly is reasonable to expect a waitperson to promptly take your hot drink order after you are seated. At least, that happened at every other hotel we stayed at on this European trip. But, not here. The second morning, after waiting 10 to 15 minutes for someone to take our order for a latte and a hot tea -- as also had happened the previous morning -- I requested to speak to the manager. After I expressed my displeasure to him, his response was: "I'm very sorry, but what do you expect me to do?" My response: "Your job." In fact, the latte and tea didn't arrive until after we had finished eating. At our final breakfast, when the manager saw us enter the dining area, he immediately had a waiter take our hot drink order even before we were seated. But, it shouldn't have taken my discussion with him the previous morning to produce satisfactory service.
Beautiful hotel in a very quiet part of Dubrovnik. If your looking for a luxury hotel away from town definitely recommend here. Very unhappy with the front desk service as when my husband and I arrived and checked in for our HONEYMOON they decided to upgrade our travelling partners and left us in their standard rooms. When mentioning that it was rough that we were on our honeymoon yet somehow just 3 people travelling were upgraded to a suite! We were advised that everything was the same they just had a bigger room. Yeah right!!! They had a lovely ocean view whilst we got to look at the hotel out the back! Don't expect an upgrade if your on a honeymoon they like to upgrade just standard travellers it appears. The only reason I gave this hotel the rating I did was based on how we were treated at check-in. Apart from that the hotel is beautiful.
I stayed here with my husband at the end of September for 1 week. The hotel was perfect, stylish, relaxed, clean. Our room and bathroom were a good size with a nice balcony, unfortunately the location of our room meant there wasn't much to see so we didn't use it much. Location - for us was perfect. There are plenty of bars and restaurant in the vicinity catering for all tastes and budgets. The bus to the old town is about 5 minutes. Airport transfer took about 40 minutes. Breakfast - was great, plenty of choice and fresh. The staff were also very attentive which is unusual for self service breakfast buffets. Spa - We both had a massage and used the spa one day, I would recommend booking in advance. I had the hot stone massage which was amazing, so relaxing. My husband had the hot oil massage which he really enjoyed. There are changing room facilities as well as a sauna and steam room. Pool - the pool area has beautiful views and was really relaxing, the only negative thing I could say about the whole hotel was the temperature of the pool, it was freezing which meant it was rarely used by anyone. Maybe it should be heated because it's a fantastic infinity pool with beauty gi views over the bay. Food & Drink - we didn't eat much in the hotel other than breakfast and a burger by the pool on a couple of occasions, which was very tasty. However the frozen strawberry daiquiri's were the best I've ever had! Overall I would highly recommend this hotel, it ideal for couples or small groups.
